snydergp:

The AU and its regional security organisations has a agreement on deployment of troops in regional conflicts due to economic, geopolitical considerations including the 2011 spat between ECOWAS, SA Foreign Affiars and France in Ivory Coast.

ABUJA-South Africa's decision to deploy a Naval Vessel to Ivory Coast is complicating efforts to bring a peacefull resolution to the country's post election crisis, the West African region bloc ECOWAS said on tuesday "As we now there is a South African Naval warship docket in Cote De Ivoire.

Now actions such as that can only complicate the matter further, "the presedent of ECOWAS Commision, James Victor Gheho, said in Nigerian capital Abuja, "the concern that some of us have is that apparently of certain Geopolitical Interests, some countries are keen on awarding a failure mark to ECOWAS at this stage so that they themselfs would shine," Gbeho said.

News24.com/news/ecowas-miffed-at-sa-warship-in-ivory-coast-20110208

Even when this happend there was a navy frigate from Netherlands also docked in ivory coast, but ur beloved Nigeria and Ecowas kept quiet and only focussed on SA personally this actually came from France because they didn't want a African navy warship in there backyardgrin

Humm, sorry to hear this. I think that's silly. When there is a problem in Europe all or most of the EU members respond regardless of what region they come from. This is how it should be in Africa, don't you think? Especially in the case of the major forces on the continent, such as SA, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia.. just to name a few, but especially Nigeria and SA. I feel as though if Nigeria and SA worked more closely together in helping to secure the continent from such threats as extremest groups, that in the long run the continent as a whole will end up being a much safer place.

Case in point is this Mali situation, Nigeria and SA alone could be all the African force needed to team up with France and the Mali forces to eliminate the rebels; there'd be no need for all the other smaller nations to get involved. The same case for CAR, Liberia, Sierra Leon, Darfur. It's a shame you two don't get along, that'll be an great dynamic dual in which could be truly effective in bringing lasting stability to the continent.

agaugust: andrewza, i usually try to restrict my postings on this website to information that i can show everyone the source to prove it, like official institution's websites or wikipedia which is still the best public source of detailed information without going to libraries to search for books.

nigerian airforce F-7NI are highly upgraded, there are over 20 different versions of F-7 used by different countries you can see all of them on wikipedia of F-7. nigerian F-7 is not as bad as people think, but i dont have copies of the nigerian military documents to confirm the upgrades. sources told me that like bangladesh air force F-7, the nigerian version has been upgraded very heavily and has BVR (beyond visual range)capacity and can track multiple targets and lock missiles on them for attack from an invisible distance, BVR. they have ground attack capability as well as interceptor capability. thay can extend operational range with drop fuel tanks. they can also carry reconnaisance spy pods. some of the powerful countries like egypt, iran, bangladesh have removed the chinese radar and installed sophisticated british and american radars in their F-7, i am told nigeria did same but i was not shown the upgrade documents as i am not a serving air force officer and the nigerian military is very secretive about vital information especially equipment upgrade details.

nigerian military secrecy makes some sense to me now because if they had thrown all the technical data to the public, the mali rebels would have known all the upgrade capabilities of the coming F-7 and they will prepare their SAM missiles according to that information. now if they expect F-7 attack from visual range and the nigerians have BVR, then the rebels will be hit by missiles with surprise.

nigeria is confirmed to have upgraded 4 alpha jets in germany and newly equipped for naval maritime operations carrying ocean patrol electronics and anti-ship missiles in addition to its usual ground attack capabilities. this is a publicly disclosed upgrade detail and i am posting the photos here as well.
to view it just click on the blue fonts below that says "Nigerian Upgraded Alpha Jet, at the bottom of this post and then select option to open it with windows photo viewer.

also, nigerian air force HQ confirmed NAF Mi-35 hind attack helicopter gunships are landing in mali today for more ground attack operations.

the reason why NAF may favour F-7 in mali is because of its speed advantage over the alpha, the mali rebels have SAM missiles from libya and anti-aircraft guns, a very fast aircraft is harder to hit by enemy anti-aircraft guns. also to avoid surprises in war, NAF may want to use F-7 with AAM missiles to escort alpha jets doing the ground attack. in war, never underestimate your enemy like some people on this forum like to under-estimate nigerian military, you have to prepare for the unexpected, the french military got a surprise in mali when recce reports showed them the rebels weapons, the french had to use the best weapon that france has ever made, the rafale jet fighter-bombers to attack the mali rebels at night under the cover of darkness.

the new army and air force combat deployment in mali is a proof to what i have always said, that the nigerian military fights deadly wars wherever the action is, they dont select easy wars to fight, when you have generals who are trained in the best american, european, indian and israeli officers academy, you will be very bold to fight any war, and much confidence also comes from the fact that nigeria has never lost any war since world war I and our soldiers second combat experience in burma against japan in world war II under the british royal west african frontier force RWAFF which metamorphosed into the nigerian army after independence.

thr f7 is based on the mig 21 frame and thus has some problems (and plus sids)

They small. This limts the payload and range and the more range you want the less pay load you get.
they can not be modified heavly. The f7 is basicaily the lat line, i dont see getting any more from it. there is only so much you can do due to the size.

BVR is more on the missels used than the aircraft. All new fighters have BVR abieties if they get the right misseile. but BVR in the air dose not yranslat to ground. the NAF F7 can not straik ground targets at stand off range. They interceptors and have limted ground strike abieties.

Hinds are good choice for mali. open desert with a few strong points. use them after you drive out the enemy from a city to block of escapes.

i am 100 percent sure the rebels dont have a air force

@ANDREWZA, and all south africans on nairaland. You guys should please go attand games at the afcon, i wasn't too happy with the lots of the empty seats at the stadia today. Goodluck to nigeria

I have better things to do. Not a fan of "The Game" mainly because Bafana Bafana is so bad.

FYI: the nigerian millitary is aware of its limitations, but they do have a reason for deploying them.

women soldiers in nigerian army force fighting in mali ? this photo is spreading like wild fire. nigerian government announced last year 2012 it is training a special force of nigerian women CTCOIN combatants. i hope she comes back home alive because nigerian blood will soon start flowing in mali when hand to hand close range infantry combat begins with the mali rebels having sophisticated weapons from libya according to french military reports. i cant see her female chest curves because of bullet proof vest. anyone to help me ? she is second from left side in photo below.

we are infantry, we are nigerians, africa's best hand-to-hand fighters, we never lost a war, never held to a draw, never retreated in battle, we have no fear of death, we are nigerian warriors, the giant of africa, we are our brother's keeper, we are landing in mali, if we die in this desert, we shall be heroes, tell our wives, tell our children, we were good men.....we died for africa !

Firstly u are not the best in africa even the Ethiopian infantry troops are rated higher then naija's AK-47 carrying bandits who left there APV and fled when Sudanese rebbels attacted u and that's a fact.

When it comes to dissipline ur army are way behind, even ur own Nigerian Citizens have commented about ur soldiers treatment of ur own citizens.

Please upgrade those AK-47's ur soldiers are using in Mali to more modern rifles like SANDF's homemade R4 assualt rifles those AK's are good, but lack accurracy and range in DM situations.

Your troops haven't started in direct engagement with rebbels so please let's talk after France has done all the hardwork for u and Ecowas.

Those AK's looks as if ur still a thirdworld rag tag armytongue, and please don't tell ur not using them because the world saw ur army carrying those antique rebbel rowzers.

Buy some of these from SA ur army will look more modern "Mr Giants of Africa", also tell ur solldiers to stop molesting refugees where ever they are deployd including in Nigeria were they regulary beat up old people at check points.

R4's the standard issue rifle for SANDF.

Look at that soldier doesn't he look more equiped and professional then an average NA soldiers

My friend keep quite and stop running around nairaland peddling lies. Who told you the R-5 is better than the AK-47/74/AKM which the nigerian army use. The AK is still amongst the world best assult rifle, when an enemy gets hit by an AK round, he stays down unlike the M-4 round.

The R-5 is a hand me down, cheap copy of the Israeli galil. The Israeli galil rifle which is made based on the design of the ak-47. If nigeria wanted to we could have made another cheap copy, but unlike you south africans we choose to go the honourable part. We make the AK-47/74/AKM under licence right here in nigeria.

Tactical weapons, weapons for special forces are widely used in nigeria, the best modern rifles. The TAVOR-21(macro) is used by the navy, army and airforce special forces.
The SSS/DSS & NIA( secret service) use TAVOR-21, FN F200, FN P-90 and the new isreali UZI PR0(PDW)

The police anti-terror team and VIP protection team use a brand new AK rifle, all black( I can't remember the name)

Modern tactical rifles and snipers are widely used in nigeria, however the main infantry rifle is the ak-47/ 74 / AKM, the world's dependable rifle. There is no need for us to get sub standard south african R-5 rifle. So keep these your photos in your dustbin in durban.

Humm, hopefully they wont molest and randomly execute a bunch of innocent men, women and children as they've done in Sierra Leon and Liberia. undecided They operated like a bunch of wild animals while there, we'll see just how much their newest form of training since then has been effective on their discipline and professionalism while in combat.
