Benue Massacre: Let's Hear These Key Leaders by eodavids(m): 10:28am On Jan 04, 2018
We have searched for powerful comments from key leaders of the Benue people, but no success yet. Any person on Nairaland with comments from key leaders of Benue people should post it here.

The Benue massacre that is reported to have taken 52 lives is yet another heart-touching evil visited on the good people of Benue State, and it has been agreed unanimously that Benue people do not deserve this and the likes that preceded it.

Common sense shows that more are likely on the way against Benue except:

Important personalities of Benue extraction come out and speak boldly against these evil recurrence for the protection of their people.
Such people are:

1). PAUL UNONGO

2). GEORGE AKUME.

3). THE OTHERS.

"POWER CONCEDES NOTHING WITHOUT DEMAND; IT NEVER DID, IT NEVER WILL"

Perhaps the leading figures of Benue extraction need to heed this maxim.
Of what benefit is Paul Unongo, George Akume and the other leaders of Benue extraction if their voices will jot be heard over an important issue bordering on the lives, well-being and future of Benue people?

People like David Mark, Suswan and the likes being in the opposition may not make much impact, because their comments will readily be received as comminng from opposition point of view. This leave more burden of speaking out on Unongo, Akume and the others who have not been in the opposition party since the inception of this administration.

Over to you Nairalanders, more especially, the Benue sons and Daughters.

The best way a leader benefits his people is by speaking and infact protecting the intetest of his people when the need arises. Not by representing the people at national or regional caucus for money sharing purposes.

The only sustainable answer to all this violence is commercial cattle ranching. The earlier the Federal Government provides funds for the herdsmen to buy land from willing sellers for irrigated commercial ranches the better.

Benue will never allow open grazing like it used to be before. Ekiti State with that warrior Fayose has already protected itself with a strong law. President B u h a r I himself is a rancher. That is the only sustainable way out.

Governor Ortom of Benue has already come out on television to say that no amount of pressure will make Benue State go against their law against open grazing.

Leaders are beginning to come out over this issue, though nor in the areas where we would have expected to see them. Lalasticlala or another mod posted a story about someone starting a personal boycott of beef and calling on others to join in.

The Federal Government needs to financially empower the herdsmen to buy lands for commercial ranches of their own. As it is their business is being politicized by all these.

These people should be given loans so they can own their own lands, export corned beef all over Africa, etc.

I agree with you. The Fulanis need to know there is a better way of doing their business without infringing on the rights of their host communities.
I think it should be the duty of the elite Fulanis to do this education on their nomadic members, and not wait until when trouble erupts then they will come out to speak in favour of the Fulbe people.

However, Sen. George Akume and Elder Paul Unongo are two Benue Leaders enjoying membership of Buhari's political party (APC) and should be heard speaking for Benue people.
Have you heard their voices, Defender?

I await their reactions to this matter. By the way, Femi Adeshina was on AIT this morning, and he had one or two things to say on this issue, but people still await the reactions of Benue elders on this issue, since the theatre of operations is their state.

Femi spoke on the boiling issue?

What did he say?

Well, like you rightly said, we will continue to wait for comments from Unongo, Akume and the other leaders of Benue.

One takeaway is that Buhari is aware of the situation on ground. Our position remains that introduction of commercial ranching can give Buhari a popularity boost. That is one reason we advocate for it.

Good to hear from Elder Unongo on the killings in his home state. Whether his allegation is right or wrong is beyond this discuss though.

Again, Pa Unongo has resigned his position as the NEF chairman. This is an action that speaks loud like voice.
