This is the kind of crisis the Buhari administration has averted and saved us from experiencing but many here are too dumb and blinded with hatred to appreciate PMB's effort - makes me wonder how foolish and what they'd be saying now had GEJ's squandermanic and lootocratic continued in power.

I suspected this is partly the purpose of this thread: to praise Buhari by contrasting Nigeria's situation with Venezuela's. What ignoramuses like you ignore is that Venezuela went into recession in 2013, at a time Nigeria's economy was still growing. Were you comparing Nigeria and Venezuela from 2013 to 2015 when GEJ was in power?

Venezuela is in a uniquely bad situation due to the foolishness of its leaders. However, praising Nigeria's economic management by constrating it with Venezuela will be like praising the government's provision of security by contrasting Nigeria with Somalia or South Sudan. You don't grade your country by the worst available examples out there.

This is nothing new, nor strange to Nigerians... If Chad or Niger were half as prosperous as South Africa, half of South Eastern Naija would be there in a week. Dignity and self-respect are alien to most of us!

Socialism is a disease and if not averted it will contaminate the whole continent.
The era of socialism is gone. Countries cannot go back to socialism and countries already practising it and it various forms e.g Nigeria have to ditch it as fast as possible before things further degenerate to the level of Venezuela.

Socialism never helps the economy of a country grow but makes it regress over time. Leaders have to recognise that all humans are (not) equal. What leaders have to do is to ensure that the inequality gap is not wide as in the case of Nigeria.

after the exit of Hugo Chavez, the country went nose diving economically.. but here in Nigeria, the saving grace to our recession was the dogmatic, resilient and enduring spirit which Nigerians are made to imbibe..
we aren't dependent on govt for our needs as these dumb asses did... but diaspora foreign income coupled with some online jobs some folks does cushion the effect of the recession from having a massive impact... but we had some cases of suicides, kidnappings, rituals and looting etc..but it wasn't as worse as we seeing here in Venezuela.... who solely depends on black gold for its foreign earnings...

Washington responded with series of sanctions and also use CIA to trigger protests...

Wisdom is the most important thing in this life. Without it, you will live a meaningless life. This is a country where the world's most sought resource "oil" is in abundance. I mean there are places you will be in Venezuela you will find oil on the ground, you don't have to drill but yet the nation is hungry because of the foolishness of the government.

But why,all this western media can tell lies,i was there last week, people cross the border to the neighbouring countries to go and hustle not at this rate they are painting here oh,just the way Nigerians dey stroll enter benin that is same way venezuela stroll into Guyana, trinidad, colombia and brazil

Explorers:
Thousands of desperate Venezuelans are trying to enter Colombia in a bid to escape the hunger and soaring crime rate caused by the spiralling economic crisis.

Incredible pictures show the mass exodus of refugees crossing the Simon Bolivar international bridge trying to flee the political crisis threatening to engulf Venezuela.

Colombia along with its neighbour Brazil has sent extra soldiers to patrol their porous border with the country after officially taking in more than half a million migrants over the last six months of 2017.

The country is also tightening its border controls in a bid to stem the flow.

The dire economic conditions have led to lawlessness in parts of Venezuela's capital Caracas, with truck drivers subjected to 'Mad Max' violence as looters target heavy goods vehicles carrying food.

CIA orchestrated crises to cause unrest and eventually overthrow the government so that economic hitmen can finally take over.
This has always been the game plan to take over oil producing states that don't pander to western powers.

Venezuela don cast.

Nigeria is very peculiar. We are almost in the same situation with them but we turning out better after oil prices picked up again, at least comparing both countries.

Same way we survived, albeit with pains the same economic situation that upturned Argentine economy and sent the entire country into deep recession they are still battling.
This would have been Nigeria's situation if we had allowed "stealing is not corruption" to continue. We were on a dire straits times. Prudent management of very limited resources, plugging corruption loopholes and diversification efforts made us avert this crisis.

Notmyproblem:

There is something you failed to take into consideration which is our inflow from diaspora. We are "lucky" not because the government did anything different but because of families living abroad.

Diasporas saving Nigerians since 1912. grin
Venezuelans too have families abroad that remit foreign currency back home. We have always have inflow of funds from the diaspora before the fall in the price if crude oil, why didn't the diaspora inflow prevent the recession in the first place. I just wonder why you people rejoice over bad news in the country. If is bad news, it the government's fault. If there is good news, other factors are responsible.

PMB saved Nigeria from this mess. We were practically facing the same issue, If not for a prudent President, we wouldn't have survived it.
Now all the growth indices are in our favor and things are picking up.
Nigeria should show appreciation.

PMB didn't save us from anything, he rather plunged us into it. Nigeria practices capitalism while Venezuela practices socialism and here in lies their problem.

At this level of human development, socialism should not be practised in whatever form or guise.

I beg to disagree. We practice capitalism and they practice socialism, therein lies their problem. it may interest you to note that they have a lower unemployment rate than Nigeria.

They are use to the welfarism system of things and can't seem to endure as we do here even if their lives depend on it

We're good in at handling hard life. We did not run out of the country buy help ourselves with agriculture and some other businesses that will help. We are not lazy so we did not descend into crime Also we PRAY a lot, some will not believed that prayer is working.

Now am still waiting west media to praise Nigeria base on the fact that Both countries have similarities but Nigeria has higher population

We are not as bad as Venezuela for the following reasons

1. We saved money. Venezuela's reserves are at $10bn and falling. Nigeria is at 40 billion and rising.

2.We don't import as much as they do. Venezuela imports everything including chickens, and toiletroll. Nigeria does not...even though we do rely a bit too much on importing stuff, it isn't as much as Venezuela. We make most of the toiletroll used in this country for example.

3.Venezuela subsidizes everything, ie govt sets prices for everything making it difficult for people to make a profit. I know Bubu is not a good economist, but apart from PMS, he won't tell companies like Nestle, Guinness, etc how much they must sell their products.

4. Venezuela has no import restrictions. In Nigeria, we have import restrictions, whereas Venezuela just imports everything, and sets the prices.

5.Venezuela did not implement forex restrictions. Nigeria did when oil prices crashed to $30 and below. Now, we have reserves, Venezuela nil.

6.Venezuelan oil is very expensive to extract.Mostly because most of it is offshore, and it has a high sulphur content.Nigerian oil has zero sulphur. And it is light, and is mostly produced on land.

In a way, we can commend Bubu for two moves made ...ie forex restrictions and growing the reserves. Domestic manufacturing we can thank Gowon for ...ie the National development plans.Diversification.. GEJ and even Bubu.
