Thank you!

A politician would embezzle 20B naira and donate 500M naira to a Church he attends as a way of clearing his conscience and people don't see how this affects the common man, how it makes the nation poorer and poorer. Religion may not be the cause of our corruption but its an enforcing mechanism for it now
Exactly! To the average Nigerian politician, paying tithe is like offering to cleanse them from the sin of robbery. In my opinion, the church is an accomplice to this evil.

Before anyone comes to tell us the usual story of how we should be building industries and not churches..

Pls note that the aim of the church is to further everything related to the church. People who give to church don't give to church to "improve" Nigeria but the Gospel. So pls channel your frustration to your elected govt officials who are responsible for improving Nigeria.

If you want churches to improve Nigeria, then let's hand over the VAT, Pet Tax, CIT, PayE, Wharf etc to rccg or lfc church because the way it looks as though the churches are managing themselves better than how govt is managing our lives.

Guilty conscience.

I hate it when ignorant people like u talk like this.. Who r the champions of modern civilization in Africa? When the missionaries came to Africa what did they bring? They not only came with the gospel, they also brought schools, morden day medicine and what is making u to talk trash here on NL. If I was to ask u if the early missionaries only built churches we would still be wearing leaves till date.
Not only did they bring education, the best were sent to their country for further studies because the best way to develop a society is by education.
Now let me ask u since Boko Haram terror in the north how many schools did this so called churches build in the north?
How many idp's have been given scholarships?
How many hospitals did this church build in the northeast. If u would say it's not the responsibility of the church then y is that all catholic churches have an orphanage homes I can go on and on but let me stop here

Churches enforce such stupid mindsets too by endorsing candidates stylishly under the guise of "He came to my church and I prayed for him in front of all the cameras and this video would be circulated in all news and social media which would help him win elections"

The church benefits hugely from the corruption in Nigeria and its in their best interest to maintain the status quo

Oh really?

Did the church pray for Buhari or Yar'adua?
Did they pray for Obasanjo before he became the first democratic President?

The people have a mind of their own which the church has no influence on...

churches should stop taking dirty donations from our corrupt leaders as those leaders are simply giving those donations to "clear their conscience". why would a public office holder with really no private business of his own nor investments donate billions to a church?

Let same winner convert that university to a factory and see how it will change lives around it!!!

Here your typical African mentality comes to play...
Convert a thriving full fledged tertiary institution to a factory?

Then what will happen to Nigerian education?

You're just an hater...you're probably against the establishment of private universities and chosen to unlook the strides made by them...

We should as well convert all our tertiary institutions to factories...
Since Covenant University is performing better than UI and OAU...then it's more logical for UI and OAU to be converted to factories(toothpick and pencil factories will be a nice idea... )

You fail to realize that CU employs people, the workers there don't work for free...

Since you're banking on the church to establish factories, they should as well provide portable water for the whole of Nigeria...

What's the duty of the government?

Thanks

Read my other comments and you'll see where I made my point about Nigerians being stupid...

I always blame the government because even if the money for maintenance is disbursed..., there are no mechanism for check and balance in Nigeria...

I remember Civic Education in secondary school stating that check and balance is vital for the effective running of a state.
Do the governors/leaders go round to inspect projects?

So you see why I blame the government for the decay of Nigeria?

Every Religious organisation be it Jews, muslim, budha or christainity, i believe should be fundermentally scrutinised transparently. because that's were terrorists and Dangerous crazed religious fanatics hide behind.

This is my system o. It's easy to transform into an idol from a clergy, the lack of transparency can be easily abused and no one would know. Orderliness and accountability should go hand in hand with service, without all this, all our acts of worship and service can be deduced to theatrics.

All you said here na dust! When does the church become a business organization/corporation that acquires luxury assets for leaders' usage? undecided
In what way or manner have they led by example (by showing our so called politicians how to be socially responsible) by building public infrastructures within the local communities their 'business corporations' operate.. since they're now being given the preferential treatment given to company's CEO and executives?

So the old days Christians didn't preach the gospel without the frivolities, right? Paul the Apostle did majority of his preaching the prison without any excuses whatsoever. Again, like I mentioned earlier... keep basking in your ignorance. shocked

In the days of Paul the Apostle, there were no cars...
He rode on horses and asses which could as well be a luxury then...

But I guess Adeboye and Oyedepo should trek to church and all...

A leader is naturally entitled to quite a lot, there's a level you get to in life where some things are just inevitable...
You expect the head of a church with with over a 100,000 members to be treated like what exactly?

My dad is entitled to an escort(by his status in the society) wherever he goes to? It's a luxury he can't ordinarily afford...

Just so you know, Paul was never poor; make your research...
Serving God diligently comes with prosperity(Abraham the first tither, Isaac, Israel, Joseph, David...).

At first bolded, I'm just learning that you were the body guard to the god of men when meeting Otobo. Which part is a lie? That he finished behind always or only sometimes? grin cheesy grin

At second bolded:

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. Matthew 16:25

Whoever loves his life will lose it, but whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. John 12:25

So you mean because there is too much money, fun and owambe these days, these Bible verses are no more valid? shocked shocked

Not surprised because Nigerian Christians mostly go to church for the razzmatazz and prosperity preaching. Hoping one day to be rich like their GoM. They carry the Bible about but even when they read they will not assimilation what the message is. Way too worldly.

They forget that these days to be insanely wealthy you have to perfect your scam. Be it politicians, yahoo boys, oil subsidy businessmen, industrialists (tax avoidance & monopoly via political cronies) pastorpreneurs, etc.

I can lose my life in the defense of Jesus; not in the fight for Nigeria?

Why you think Ojukwu and Kanu ran away?
I'm not Igbo but I see the reason for Biafra, I can't die for Nigeria and I can't expect anyone to pay the price...

Can you mention the roads you have constructed? The only church that had ever constructed government roads is Deeper Life.

Maybe you want to tell me if kids of the poor can ever access the education you provide in those universities

For your information, your universities and church buildings only benefit one person: the GO!

http://thenationonlineng.net/winners-chapel-rehabilitates-ogun-roads/amp/

How is covenant university benefitting Oyedepo when LFC still gives the school money?

And the kids of the poor can't access any school...
But Oyedepo gives scholarships from his own money(not from the church's purse) to students from Covenant and Landmark universities and also to other universities across Nigeria...students across Africa are also eligible...

But you see, the press won't cover news like these...as much as they cover the jet saga...

Nairaland's front-page is the personification of Nigeria's press...
These days I can't even get past 5 fp topics because they are mostly misleading(just for traffic and attraction)
