If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

The previous system wasn't perfect but at least we knew what to expect of it and could judge the extent of its limitations. Since Ambode abolished the LAWMA system and replaced it with a single contractor, Visionscape, he has effecetively created a monopoly in the waste management system of Lagos State.

A city of 9-15million inhabitants with additional 5-7million daily commuters from neighbouring states, a state with 87% urbanization...to have its waste management system handed to a private monopoly, without an open and proper bid process?? You don't need rocket science calculations to know that it will fail and it is failing badly.

Mr. Ambode, this is not the Lagos that Tinubu and Fashola bequethed to us. Do something to correct this anomally before it becomes your lasting legacy.

Eko o de ni ba je ṣa!

Now you know how effective Fashola was.

The former system was working.
Now its broken down.
People should stop accusing LAWMA because the new Visionscape is not adequate at all at all.

It's not funny that people are blaming LAWMA, the new state is just not adequate.

This is what happens when a Tinubu corners an entire state. All these years the man and his touts have been shouting eko oni baje o! grin while sucking the life out of lagosians with taxes and corruption we knew we would see a day like this. Instead the priority of the APC govt in Lagos is to focus on enforcing Yoruba language in schools grin ;

Very shameful. Ambo-ode is just a Rauf Aregbesola without a beard

This is annoying. The cleaner Lagos thing is making Lagos stink. This is what I mean.

About three weeks ago the street here was free of dirt. It was clean and the people burnt and disposed off dirt themselves. But since these guys at Cleaner Lagos brought their trash cans the stink around here got heavier.

Now people who used to burn and dispose their dirt faraway from residential areas bring out the shi't for the cleaner Lagos people.

The trash is full within hours and Nigerians, acting with insane spirits, drop dirt around the trash can. The CL guys are not responsive and the dirt pile up and the stink begins to change lives.

If LASG wants this to work, these new guys in charge have to improve on the frequency of disposing waste. Two times a day isn't bad and will really improve the city.

This one seems like once in a week and before they show up the place is already contaminated. The sand fly and rats in Lagos are too much and we can't afford to add more.

Anybody taking Lagos back should leave already. Ambode, if you can't work independent of Tinubu then resign. Lagos is the only fully functional international city in Nigeria besides Abuja, so no spoil that status.

functional?
You mean omonile , bribe to get anything, police harassment, traffic like hell, flooding, tinubu allowed to keep half of Lagos budget?

You people have been in the rotten system too long it is now the right way for you.

Ambode gave the contract to clean up Lagos to a proxy Tinubu company known as Visionscape.
It would only get worse.
Those bins they deployed are not big enough and they are not picking up the rubbish regularly.

Indeed, this is not the cleanest of times of our dear Lagos state.

No matter the location – highbrow, lowbrow - one thing has become common to all – heaps of garbage on the street.

No doubt, the only legally approved organization for clearing up refuse in Lagos,Visionscape, is clearly overwhelmed.

As much as one is not aware of the contractual details of the clean-up arrangement for Lagos state, however it is very apparent that the sudden disengagement of the services of the PSP operators wasn’t exactly a well thought out one.

But whatever the case, Visionscape urgently needs to up their game.

These sights are not exactly what any serious city that strives to attain the status of a mega city should project.

Sad that a lot of people were quick to turn against Fashola. Now we can see that a major part of his achievements was that he managed the environment well. He put the basic things in place and ensured they were working. I just hope Ambode won't wait till there is an epidemic or outbreak before doing something about this waste management wahala. Also, a bulk of those waste are biodegradable and the main environmental threat from biodegradable waste is the production of methane and other greenhouse gases.

You're saying this because you're not based in Lagos. This is not an issue of cleaning of one's environment rather an issue of proper waste disposal. Before, we had LAWMA trucks that came to pick our garbage on designated days of the week. Now they've been replaced with a new system that deposited trashcans at random corners of the state and hardly come to pick them. The closet trash can to me is about 10 minutes drive and there's hardly a time I drive past that place without seeing heaps of garbage surrounding the trash cans. How can two small garbage cans serve an area spanning about 5square km? People that don't have means to go all the way to dispose their garbage now do so at uncompleted buildings or at the roadsides. You have to be in Lagos to understand the severity of this crisis. Lagos has never been this dirty EVER.
