Chapter 9

Sotonye

"Will you marry me?" I asked her taking her hand.  Her eyes widened as she looked at the rose quartz crystal ring I'd bought the previous day.
"Back up a bit, what?" she asked.
"I love you and I want to marry you" I said   looking at her expectantly.
"Soty I didn't ask for marriage, I just wanted to know that you belonged with me and not with Princess"  Roselyn straddled me.  She had a smile on her pretty face when she took the ring.
"This is beautiful" she said and kissed the side of my face.

"You're more beautiful honey, look I know it's a bit out of the blue but I've never felt this way with anyone. You make me so happy, I keep hearing that I should do the right thing. This is the right thing Rose, I want to marry you"  I said taking her hand and kissing it.

"So will you marry me?" I asked again. She smiles and nods.

"Not immediately though but yes.  I love you" she cupped my face.

"I shouldn't but I do... "  she looked a bit sad and that got me concerned.

"What do you mean by you shouldn't?" I asked.

"You know... " she hesitated. "You're with Princess, she's queen's sister.  We're complicated but it doesn't matter. I love you Sotonye Williams, I'll always love you" she kissed  me deeply.

My heart was thundering for her, it had to be love.  In a couple of weeks, I've fallen hard for this girl.  It's like we're meant to be.

"What's the situation with princess?" Roselyn piped up. I cleared my throat before replying.

"I'm going to break up with her tonight" I said.

Roselyn frowned and looked away immediately. "Shouldn't you have broken up with her before doing this. I don't want us to be a secret anymore" she moaned tiredly.

"Now I'm supposed to hide the ring in my purse. Go home and pretend nothing is going on between us?" she asked.

"I'm breaking up with her tonight, she should be out by next week. I love you so much and I don't want to make you annoyed but please just let me do this my way. Princess has helped me a lot, she was with me when my ex wife left...." I explained.

"Why did Tari leave you?" Roselyn asked.

"Doesn't matter, she abandoned me. Forget about her, she means nothing to me. It's only you that matters" I said looking in her eye.

She frowned a little before getting out of bed. "Um... I should go. I have a thing with Queen. Keep the ring till you've sorted your whatever with Princess. I love you Soty but till you get your shît together this can't work" she said.

"I promise Rose, I won't do anything to hurt you. I love you okay, trust me" I said.

"I trust you...way too much. You know what, why don't you help me take a shower before I leave" she smiled.

"Okay. I can't wait for us to stop this hotel runs" I grinned.

"Same here too Soty" she hopped off the bed and skipped into the bathroom.

I took in a deep breath, Oh lord give me strength to end whatever I have with princess tonight, once and for all.

"Anything on the runaway wife?" I asked the new guy I hired to do my digging for me.
"Nothing on her, I'm starting to think she does not exist" Fray frowned and crossed his arms.

"Why would I send you on a ghost chase? Tarila is real, she exists. I don't know that bïtch but she's a thorn in my side. I want to move on okay, I can't with Tare bugging me about Tari this, Tari that. Why can't that bloody bastard move on?" I groaned.

"Why don't you get rid of this Tare, isn't that a better idea. I can do a clean job on him" Fray cracked his knuckles.

I was tempted to do that, I've considered it a few times. The truth is if I get rid of Tare, his friends will kill Sotonye immediately. Tare has left strict instructions for a couple of guys, instructions to be followed in the case of his death. That wise, cunning bastard.

"Why won't the bloody Tarila just come out of hiding?" I snapped before burying my head in my palm.

"There's something else I found though" Fray said. "What?" I asked immediately.

"That Roselyn girl, I looked into her. Apparently she's from money, she owns a night club in Lagos, Euphoria and one here in Abuja, Spades" Fray said.

"What? that can't be. Queen told me Roselyn does part time jobs just to pay for her tuition in the University of Lagos" I said surprised.

"She does school part-time in Unilag. Roselyn wasn't even in the country during the building and development of these clubs. According to my friend that works at the tax office, she owns those clubs. She's rich, her club specialises in all forms of entertainment that attracts a lot of customers. She makes millions every night. She also runs a foundation for abused children." Fray said dropping a file on my table.

My eyes widened at the information, the same Roselyn that was currently dragging my man with me?

"What's her last name?" I asked immediately my eyes perusing the documents.

"Her last name is Spades. I did some research on the name, I found only one thing Nigerian related. Doctor Spades, must be her father. Doctor Spades also has millions of dollars to his name that explains why she's rich and young" Fray said.

"It doesn't make any sense, why would she still be in Unilag if she's so freaking rich. Why would be studying part time, why would she pretend to have nothing" I asked.

"Disguise, maybe she wanted something. Something she wouldn't have gotten with all that wealth" Fray said.

"Listen you have to do more research on this girl, who was running her business before she returned back to the country?" I asked.

Fray picked up a another document. "She hired a manager, he's the one who runs Euphoria. I tried talking to him but I got kicked out" Fray said.

I shook my head in disbelief "No this is a joke, look again. I'm sure you've made some mistake. Not that Roselyn at home, she's a trampy bïtch who has nothing" I said.

"Listen it took days for me to gather this information. I had to bribe a hell lot of people. This is the real deal, your Roselyn is a rich girl, what you should focus on is why she's going around acting broke"

I looked at the picture on the document but there was a picture of Roselyn at the airport. The Roselyn that stayed at my house.
Something is not right....something is definitely not right.

Jesu! It is like Roselyn is Tari. Vanessa too is Tari, in fact am confused.

Sotonye

I shoved my hand in my pocket looking at the window. I watched Roselyn and Queen chat animatedly with Alfred.

In a few minutes Princess will finish whatever she's doing in the bathroom and she'll come in here.

I'll spill the news to her, she'll cry her eyes out. Maybe beg me to reconsider, after my refusal she'll run downstairs to curse out Roselyn and hurl accusations at her.

Queen and Alfred will get mad, Alfred will rush up here with a few words for me and maybe a few punches. Vanessa's lips will curl in her usual mocking smile, queen will attack her soul sister downstairs.

In summary all I'm saying is that in a few minutes, shït's going to hit the fan. I'm going to make a big mess tonight, but it's worth it. Roselyn is worth it, she's the one I love and I swear I don't know how the hell that happened.

My friends think I'm crazy, 'How can you marry a girl you barely know?' Simon had asked me the other day when I told him I was going to propose to Roselyn and break up with Princess.

I think I'm crazy too, but I've read somewhere that people in love do crazy things. Roselyn makes me do crazy things, I love her. I want to marry her, that's final.

"Sotonye we need to talk" I heard Princess from behind me. I turned slowly to look at her.

"Yes, we do. There is something I need to tell you" I said and paced to the other side.

"It's about Roselyn" Princess began.

"Princess, please wait. Let me talk" I started. Princess shook her head and held up her hand.

"I know you're still seeing her, whatever you think you want to do right now don't. Please Sotonye, don't do it. She's not worth it" Princess said.

"Princess listen to me" but she cut me off again with a scream. "Sotonye I'm pregnant okay, I'm not going to have a bastard. This 'us' has to work, we have to get married before I start to show. My child deserves both of us as its parents, both married. I refuse to let my child grow up without a father or have a stepmother. Will you leave me and your flesh and blood for a liar? Your first child Sotonye!" she asked.

My eyes widened "You're pregnant?" I asked in disbelief. She nodded and placed her hand on her tummy.

"How, since when? Princess I've always used a condom. How can you be pregnant?" I asked.

She shrugged "Maybe the condom broke or something, I don't know. I just know I'm about three weeks pregnant already. You have a responsibility now Soty and you're not abandoning it, you're not abandoning us!" Princess hissed.

"We can work this out princess, we don't necessarily need to get married..." I began. Shït! This is messed up. So messed up!

"We do, for the sake of our child. We must get married, forget the big wedding I wanted. I want something small, let's say next week. We can get a license this week and do it in court. Sotonye be reasonable, what do you even know about that Roselyn girl?" Princess rushed.

"I know enough Princess, look I don't want to make you unhappy. How can you marry me knowing that I want and love another woman?" I asked princess.

"Love? You mean lust! She's a fake bïtch. I did some research on her, Roselyn Spades, she's the adopted daughter of some British cosmetic Surgeon. I bet everything about her is fake, from the first day I saw her I knew it!" Princess said.

Spades, cosmetic surgery....I don't understand. Roselyn and I never talk about her family but she would tell me things like this wouldn't she? She's not rich, she's broke. She told me herself that she needed money, that was why she was with me in first place.

"Do you know that your beloved mistress owns two freaking high classes clubs in Nigeria. She's swimming in wealth, Euphoria and Spades. Did she tell you that, is that why you're going to her because she's rich? Are you going to engage her like that other girl, dupe her too?!" princess was furious now.

What the hell is she talking about?! Roselyn owns Euphoria? But she works there, she's an employee there. I ran a hand down my face, she's been lying to me. And just like that I would have married a woman I knew nothing about, when was she planning to tell me?

Princess walked to our wardrobe and brought out a file. She walked back to me with the file and handed it to me. "Think I'm lying? Look at these files" Princess hissed before walking away.

My chest hurt, how could she? What else has she lied about? I love and trusted her.

Ever since Princess spilled the unknown about Roselyn yesterday, I've been numb.
Had she purposely come for me at Euphoria that night?
Had she known I was dating Queen's sister, was this some sort of plan?

Now that I think about it, had I met Roselyn before? Maybe before I lost my memory. I don't think I'd ever forget that face if I've seen it before but what If Roselyn has been playing me all along.

'I love you so much Soty!' has she been lying all along. She's not after my money, so what does she want from me? Why is she in my life?

I picked up my phone and dialed her number, she picked up at the first ring.

'Hey babe' her bubbly voice came on. 'I've been waiting for your call' She said. I can imagine her laid out on the bed, grinning like a Cheshire cat.

Her smile, her eyes, her beauty turns wise men into fools. Sane men into Mad Men, and that is what I've become. A fool for love.

"We need to talk, meet me at Spades" I said.
"Not the hotel?" she asked cheekily.
"Spades in an hour, don't be late" I said coldly.
"Babe what is it?" she asked. She must have been surprised at my cold tone.
"We'll talk when we see" I ended the call.
Today I will cease being a fool.

I rounded off the conference call with two of my trusted suppliers at work and picked up the file Princess had tossed my way last night.

Roselyn Spades, no other relatives asides Doctor Gilbert Spades. She has a house at Ikoyi, estimated price 45 million naira, two high classed clubs Euphoria, Lagos and Spades at Abuja. Two fast cars and a yatch, she's way richer than I am.

I checked for articles on google about Roselyn Spades. And found just one article on a popular celebrity blog.

'Cosmetic Surgeon Doctor Spades who hit his big break two years ago after he came back from his trip to Africa was spotted at the Hilton Hotel with his daughter Adopted daughter Roselyn Spades last night. Apparently they were invited to Margary Spencer's late night party, as you all know Margary had Spades do a new makeover on her face two months ago and we've been loving the new look.... Check out list of other celebrities that have been glammed up by Doctor Spades.'

I click on the arrow to check the lists and saw a few celebs that had patronized this Doctor Spades over a the last two years. According to another article I read, Doctor Spades only got popular a month after he got back from Africa. He'd performed a miraculous surgery in South Africa that got mouths talking.

I checked for other articles but saw that they'd been deleted off sites and blogs. Doctor spades might be popular but there was barely anything about Roselyn on the web.

I saw another story on a blog that Doctor Spades had sued a reporter that had dug up dirt about his daughter and threatened to take down any site or blog that posts or publish anything disturbing about his daughter.

My heart clenched in anger, maybe Princess was right all along. Roselyn was a fake.

I saw pretty miss fake an hour later, chatting with a bartender and sipping a drink when I walked into the bar. If only the bartender knew he was sitting with the owner of the bar.

She turned her head smiling and I saw the lovesick on the bartender's face and loathed it. That was how men looked at her, lovesick! I'd looked at her that way before too, hell I still look at her that way.

"Soty" she got up to hug me but I moved back a bit and cleared my throat.
She looked a bit shocked but she said nothing. I eyed the midnight blue satin dress she was wearing, the way it hugged her body. The way her lips pouted and reminded myself that her dad probably made her this beautiful.

What did the real Roselyn even look like?

"Your call sounded urgent, what is it?" she asked picking up her glass again.

"Princess and I are getting married next week" I dropped the bomb. Her eyes widened and she dropped the glass. "What?"she asked looking surprised.

"You heard me, we're over Roselyn. And no don't look at me like I've betrayed you, if there's anyone who should feel betrayed, it's me. Roselyn Spades" I said bitterly.

"Sotonye, listen don't be like this. I didn't tell you because I hated the attention that came with the name. You never asked about my family either" she said.

"Your family, who are your real family? Your face, it's enhanced isn't it. Are you real?" I asked.

"You've touched me Sotonye, did I feel like plastic. Of course you know I'm real, I'm no barbie doll" she said.

"You own Spades and Euphoria, why did you lie? You told me you were broke, why did you lie. I bet you have some Harvard degree yet you pretend to be a part time student at Unilag. What's your plan Roselyn?" I asked.

"I'm only doing a program at Unilag and I do not have a Harvard degree. I was going to tell you" she said a pleading note lacing her voice.

"It's too late Spades. I want nothing to do with you. As a matter of fact, I want you out of my house by tomorrow" I said coldly before walking out Spades.

She called after me but I ignored her. Leaving her was hard for me, but I Can't be with her after all her lies and secrets.

Chapter 10

Queen

I was hanging clothes in the wardrobe when Roselyn burst into the room in tears.
"Rose?" I stopped looking at her.  She didn't look sorrowful, or saddened by anything just angry.

"Rose why are you crying?" I asked going towards her. "It's nothing, nothing you can help with anyway" she hissed and walked to the wardrobe.

I watched her perplexed, "What do you mean, Rose if anyone has offended you tell me.  Is it Princess, I know she can be so annoying" I crossed my arms. It had to be Princess.

"It's nothing, I'm leaving. I have urgent business in Lagos, I'll take a night bus" Roselyn sniffed wiping angry tears off her face.

"It has to be serious to get you this upset,  I don't like when you're upset" I frowned. She ignored me and began to take her clothes off the wardrobe.

"Fine,  I'm coming with you" I offered. She turned to me surprised.

"What about your sister's engagement party?" she asked. "Screw that" I replied. I came here in hopes that Sotonye would cancel and there'd be no wedding. Since that's not happening, I'd rather not wait around.

"No,  no...i want to be alone for now.  I'll be fine,  I'll call you when I get to Lagos." Roselyn brought out her bags and began to shove her clothes into her bag.

I don't understand the problem, had princess said anything to Roselyn? I was considering the odds when someone banged the door. Roselyn's eyes darted to the door immediately.

"Yes,  who is it?" I asked. "Your brother!" Alfred spoke.  He sounded angry, "Come in" I said shaking my head.

He looked angrier than he'd sounded "In haste to leave Roselyn, after what you have done?" He glared at Roselyn.

"What are you talking about?" I asked Alfred confused. "Come down and see for yourself" Alfred hissed. He walked to Roselyn, who had a blank expression on her face.

"You're coming too" He gritted out taking her arm and pulling her roughly out of the room. "what the hell is happening?" I shouted following both of them.

I found my answer in the living room, Princess was sitting on one of the chairs crying hysterically. I rolled my eyes in disgust, things she'd do for attention.

"What's going on?" I asked ignoring the bruises on Princess's face. Princess glared at me before turning to Roselyn.  "Look what your goons have done to me!" she screamed.

"What are you talking about, what goons?" Roselyn asked. "Don't play dumb, you sent some goons to torture Princess. Asking her to break up her engagement, simply because you want Sotonye for yourself" Alfred glared at Roselyn.

"What? No!  No! I did no such thing" Roselyn protested. "You're a liar! After beating her up they warned her. According to your orders,  I heard one of them tell the other to  call Miss Spades and inform her!" Princess screamed hysterically.

"I don't believe that Roselyn would do that, this is a set up" I protested.

"Shut up Queen!" Alfred and Princess shouted at the same time.  Vanessa placed  her hand on Alfred's shoulder.  "Honey calm down" She said soothingly.

"You will regret coming to Abuja" Alfred swore.  "Listen, I did no such thing. Why would I do that? Roselyn asked.

"To keep Sotonye for yourself, scheming Slüt!" Princess shouted.  "You could have hurt my baby!" She continued.

"Baby?" Roselyn echoed weakly.  I looked at Princess sharply.  "You're lying!" I spat.

"Shut up Queen!" Alfred said angrily. I glared at Princess harder. How does anyone even fall for her pretentious act?

I've fallen for it before but never again. "I'm sure you're mistaken, I know Roselyn and I trust her. I'm sure she didn't nothing like that" I said. If anyone is the liar and schemer, it's Roselyn.

Roselyn opened her mouth to defend herself again but whatever she was going to say was interrupted by the immediate entry of Sotonye and some uniformed men.

"Sotonye, Alfred. It hasn't gotten to this extent!" I protested again. "Princess tell them to stop it this instant" I said angrily.

"Arrest her!" Princess cried pointing to Roselyn. My heart clenched in anger at her drama. Roselyn had done nothing but she was going to suffer for it.

"It's okay Queen, I will go with these men" Roselyn said calmly. A cold mask was plastered on her face. She turned to Princess. "This matter will be investigated, God help the person who is responsible because they will regret it" She said looking at Princess pointedly.

"You're all bark but no bite" Princess hissed and went over to Sotonye. Who wrapped his arm around her and consoled her.

I turned to my friend "Don't worry Roselyn, I'll come get you as soon as I can" I promised as the officers cuffed her and took her away.

"I can't believe you all, Rose is innocent!" I yelled at them. "That's enough Queen, I'm disappointed. You would choose a stranger over your sister!" Alfred frowned.

"No I'm disappointed in you Alfred, you would believe this lying bïtch!" I scoffed disgusted.

"Enough Queen, can't you see your sister is hurt?" Sotonye asked.

I laughed harshly "And you Sotonye you're the bigger fool. Princess's lies will be the death of you. Tell me do you know she's your brother's ally. Tare is it? And she's been taking advantage of your amnesia ever since" I hissed at Princess.

Princess gasped wide-eyed, I ignored her expression. She'd gone to far today, framing up Rose and getting her arrested. That was the last straw, the camel's back is broken.

"And you Alfred, do you know why you got disowned years back? It's all Princess's doing. She somehow managed to get back on track when Tare Williams offered to pay the debts in exchange for a service.... monitoring and dating Sotonye Williams his brother. Your brother is planning a revenge for you and your fiancee knows all about it, she's also looking for your ex wife. Apparently that's the only thing that would calm Tare's anger!" I spat spilling all the dirty secrets.

"Tarila is dead!" Alfred spat, he looked so furious. At who exactly? "Vanessa, we're leaving" He said walking out of the living room. The ever elegant Vanessa followed quietly.

"Karma is coming for you P, trust me this is nothing! Oh and Sotonye, you might want to consider a pregnancy test." I said walking out of the living room. I'm leaving this bloody house too.
