While we all celebrate Moshood Abiola for his achievement ; I just want to remind everyone that June 12 was not an exclusive event that fell from the sky

Something led to June 12

This administration is choosing to engage in “Selective Historical Symbolism”

The story of June 12 1993 started in December 31 1983. If Buhari and his cronies did not truncate democracy and oust Shagari may be there will be no June 12.

So if Buhari want to reflect on our history he should start by apologising for that 1983 coup de tat.

And for our brothers in South West this move by the Presidency is not about you. It is about Buhari. He wants to gin up votes for himself in Yoruba land while also reminding us of IBB’s failaure.

The problem is Buhari has no moral right to reflect on our past history of democracy if he will not apologise for his role in 1983!

All those shouting mumu button up and down, Buhari won nobody to his side with this June 12th thing. Though it's a good thing the day has finally been honored.

Once upon a time Coups and Counter Coups hag a place in the history of African Nations but times has change and Coups had become a no no .Because Jerry Rawlings of Ghana came to power via a coup makes him a lesser Statesman ? NO.
PMB's JUNE 12 is a very good move and may God bless him and Nigeria for this .

[quote author=pp802 post=68296099]Some one should clear me on this:

What if he loses the election next year, can the new president cancel June 12?
............................................................................................

Yes! It's possible.
Fact is, it will forever be a burden on the successive governments to change that, from political perspective.

June 12 honors late heroes of democracy in Nigeria.
It honors the SW people the most.
SW voting bloc could be swayed, if another President alters the day.

Politically, it would be suicidal for anyone to tamper with that designated day.

Remember, after NORTH WEST, the 2nd largest voting bloc is the SW. 3rd is NORTH CENTRAL, 4th is NORTH EAST, 5th is SOUTH SOUTH and the last is SOUTH EAST. 5%
