Well, if you're in Lagos you have lots of choices. A number of the CDMA telecomms companies offer internet access. You choose an internet plan and pay a fixed amount per month. Plans include:
Unlimited
Day (6am - 6pm)
Night (6pm - 6am)
Evening(6pm - 11pm)
Morning (6am - 11am)
I don't know all the plans but you choose whichever is convenient for you. Two of the best providers are Starcomms and Multilinks. When I say best, I don't mean they are as fast as they should be, i only mean they are the best relative to others. Hope this answers your questions

You should try out the Starcomms internet access it's the fastest and you have the added bonus of mobility; You buy a data compatible phone, Data pack (Data cable + CD ROM) then you choose a data plan then subscribe and presto you are on! And there are no additional fees to be paid; no dialup fee, no access charge
The plans are;
Always On (24 Hour) N15, 000 P/Month
Business Time (0600hrs – 1800hrs) N11, 000 P/Month
Evening Access (1800hrs – 2300hrs) N6, 000 P/Month
Chat Time (2300hrs – 0600hrs) N4, 500 P/Month
And they is a promo running presently wherein you;
Pay for 2 months Always On and get a free table top phone+data pack
Pay for 3 months Always On and get the Mobile Data card (a PCMCIA card worth N34, 000) free
Of course you will be able to use this internet access anywhere in Lagos and it is also available in Kano and Port Harcourt

hi immanuella,

wat you need is a wireless internet connection which is wat i av at home here in lekki.

i got a laptop and my internet provider is netcom. they r a canadian isp based in victoria island on adeola odeku street, a new white tall building which is after dat big gigantic globacom office, the building also harbours Air France as well, they r on d 6th floor of dat building.

You will have to buy their modem which is N75,000 only, you will be given one month free internet access and after one month, you will b paying N6,000 monthly subscription fees, their internet access is 24hrs everyday.

You also can only use their modem in their converage areas like victoria island, surulere, ikoyi, ikeja, lekki and some other places but you will need to find out from them first b4 buying the wireless modem, it also works for a desktop computer as well.

Here is their website www.netcomafrica.com

you can try them, they are very gud and very fast too

Hope this is enough info for you.

In your own interest, don't even bother buying intercellular.. They are extremely lousy, i'm finding a way to ditch them
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by thelastdon(m): 1:26pm On Jan 25, 2006
some other cybercafes with VSAT connections can give better home services
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by homegirl: 3:21pm On Jan 26, 2006
On that same topic - why aren't the cafe operators reselling their VSAT bandwidth to home users ? They could use wireless technology to connect home users to their cafes.
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by thelastdon(m): 5:04pm On Jan 26, 2006
@homegirl, some cafes do it and dts how I get my internet connection in Nigeria
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by homegirl: 5:18pm On Jan 26, 2006
Great LastDon! What are your monthly payments ? And your bandwidth ?
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by walemuse(m): 10:28pm On Feb 07, 2006
As far as I am concern the best isp in Nigeria is multilinks.
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by kenniy(m): 9:50am On Feb 08, 2006
c-mooooooon, multilinks??!!
when there's netcom!!multilinks advertises and display 115.2kbps but wat's being offered is way lower! btw 15-20kbps.
netcom offers 100kbps SURED speed at 6k per mnth!
hope u knw wt dat mean..
cos u can consider the initial cost a little expensive (75k) but i promise u it way worth it
plus u hv hv enough buck den u can enjoy 600kbps per month!
chk out netcomng.com
compare with multilinks.com
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by Chexolala: 12:14am On Feb 09, 2006
If you're in Lagos then there's only one place to go to ...NETCOM.

Have been using this service for the last 6 months and their customer service and product is second to none, I Kid You Not!!!!!

They even have a package to suit you be you a light, heavy or moderate user.

Check them out at www.mynetcomng.com or www.netcomafrica.com

Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by steveomni(m): 2:30pm On Feb 11, 2006
to be truly honest with you,i guess multilinks remains the best in nigeria.because i happen to be one of thier customers, customer service is superb as well, only you have to choose your own timing, and you run your own bill, what i mean is that you can recharge only when you want to go net grin shocked for more info go to multilinks oofice at adeolu odeku victoria island
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by Afam(m): 12:17am On Feb 12, 2006
Multilinks remains the best in Lagos, very reliable, transparent and accurate billing, speed not great but reliability is what really matters when talking online.

Used them for over 2 years, switched over to MTS but nobody asked me to dump MTS and rush back to Multilinks.

Starcomms is time bomb, believes in damage control rather than provisioning their services properly for customers.

Anyday, anytime choose Multilinks for reliability and availability.

Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by jogego(m): 8:15pm On Mar 10, 2006
Am looking at the Netcom services page and all I can say is, this is highway robbery.

In the UK, I have broadband of 512Kbps which I can increase to 2Mbps whenever I need it at £17.99 per month and I DO NOT have any download limits.

For someone to pay N6000(about £24) for a 100 kbps line with 1GB download limits is sheer armed robbery. In fact, for a linux user like me, by the time I download two 700MB .iso files to burn into CDs, I have already gone past my limit.

The fact that Nigerians do not have a choice does not mean people should be taking advantage of us.

Sheer open faced armed robbery.

And could someone tell me what kind of modem or router is given out? Does it work with Mac OS or Linux or is it only windblows?
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by kenniy(m): 11:48pm On Mar 11, 2006
i think you should compare that "arm robbery" to the other choices we have out here. they are mostly not even up to 50kbps. i use multilinks at home, it shows 115.2kbps on connection but am very sure its no way near that, no even up to 35kbps i think, can someone help me out with that. and you know what the fee is? 15k for 24 hours service or 4k for night only,

the point is we dont have too much choice here in nigeria,
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by Christino(m): 6:11pm On Apr 06, 2006
Wait for Accelon's Home Users solution. You know these guys are geared @ providing the best services, strictly speaking their 32K connection is more like 128K of most ISPs, a clear edge plus 24/7 technical support, that's where I like them.

Their solution will be out in the next few weeks, but i won't be needing it coz i have it already, and its working fine. for a 32K connection, you can use 4 computers simultaneously of course, for chat, email and browsing and if you need to download heavy files, wait until midnight.

Meanwhile the solution equipment (VSAT) installation will not cost more than 50K then you have to pay between 14k and 22k monthly (for a 64K connection).

There is a survey going on within them like (12 hrs on weekdays (6pm to 8am) and 24hrs on weekends) or (10hrs on weekdays 8pm - 6am and 24hrs on weekends). Its gonna be BAM! coz my friends have browsed in my house and they are willing to pay anything for Accelon. I swear to God, browsing here is like changing TV stations with a remote. PAM! Pronto! u r there. Let's wait and see for ourselves, i just hope these dial up guyz wont pack up soon!
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by OldGlory1(m): 10:05pm On Apr 06, 2006
Wow

These prices are off the chain. In the US i pay $19.99 for Broadband for as many computers as i want, and the company gives you all the hardware for free too. Infact if i paid annually, my cost is $14.95 per month. These companies are making a killing in Nigeria. I see why people are always in per as you go internet cafes. It is rear to find an internet cafe where i live. Everyone has internet connection at home or you can surf free on DSL in the mall, library, bookstore, school and a bunch of different places. I guess the Internet is a luxury in many homes out there huh?
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by aderaskeey(m): 8:13am On Apr 22, 2006
@ Old Glory et. al. Europe and the U.S. do not have infrastructural deficiency as we are permanently saddled here. All these local ISPs run their electricity supply solely on diesel-generators as public power supply remains absurdly epileptic and almost nil after 7 years of reforms without reformation or repentance by the government.

You must factor this into their cost. The bare-faced armed robbery began from the Top, I mean the government that could not supply steady electricity for her citizens.
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by Mario(m): 5:54pm On Apr 22, 2006
I think in terms of technology growth, we have gone some distance, I remember i use to send just mail somewhere in benin city for N150 and now I work in Lagos and I use reltel wireless for my internet connection in my bedroom, and i pay just 5k monthly.

Well it could only be better. Reltel has defferent platforms like the nomal platfom every other wireless network and they also have pay as you go internet too, where u pay 5k and get 100hrs, validity of 30days and u can log in any time within the 30days with their wireless nokia 2115i of 12k for me right now, I am cool with reltel.

I dont know what this means but when I connect, it shows me speed is 230.4 kbps, can someone tell me what this means cos I see on my friends starcomms, it shows 115.2 kbps.

@christino, I wonder why it is ok at moment? of cause it will be working well now if it has not been fully launched!!! Within a short space of time it will be like so many in the market these days, the companies over subscribe user's because they live for today and can not see past the week!! I have changed provider probably 5 times in the last 2 years. Multilinks remains the safest choice!

Bros, agree with me that the best remains netcom just that netcom is not dial up. its Wi-Fi. you get up to 300Kbps or more.

I use Multilinks,And I can you right now that in the next few days i'm going to discontinue it.There service is very poor, can you imagine not been able to access your email account for like a week!I will have to go to a cafe to do my stuffs when Im have a Pc connected to internet @ home. Its really a shame.I can not advice anyone not even my enemy to go for multilinks as an ISP.MJ
Re: Best Home Internet Service In Nigeria? by k9(m): 1:05am On May 13, 2006
If you willing/able to pay 75K to acquire a CPE (customer premises equipment) and can afford 7500/ month for a always on 128/64 connection (not NETCOM), and i think it will work in just about every part of lagos, then gimme a buzz, i think i can hook you up with broad band internet.
