What will you say to the proliferation of the movie industries with ibo tribe? Where then is the originality that stage acting was once known for? Who smashed it? The movie industry is Just a show of lies, how do you defend a culture that does not exist on the platform of sincerity, Where everything is just about making money, the motives of the movie is not to teach the Art of our culture but to amerce wealth. Artist are real, they are not vain, they are few artist that is left amongst the movie makers and their showbiz counterpart. majority is about the money, so Pete as much as he have a little respect left from me, he should not reduce his once renown image to a mere show of tribalism
Re: Olu Jacobs Destroys Igbo Culture And Tradition — Pete Edochie by Nobody: 8:20am On Aug 24, 2010
i think what pete wants is for the right people to act specific roles, ABI? as in, blind men should act the roles of blind men, and MAD men too should be allowed to act the role of Mad men right? He indeed has spoken so well, so next time we need a yoruba king in a movie, its probably best to tell the Allafin of OYO to kindly act it out, so that the best of our tradition may be presented. JARGONS!!!!

Re: Olu Jacobs Destroys Igbo Culture And Tradition — Pete Edochie by frenchman(m): 9:03am On Aug 24, 2010
soe, you have said it all. the next time a producer wants to do a movie involving the president, he should ask President Goodluck Jonathan to come and act the role.
To preserve the institution from being bastardized.

Haha. Culture debates. I still don't get why people take fictional accounts seriously.

Meanwhile, on to more important matters.
@OP, I think you're cute. Fancy a chat?

I think Pete has a very big point here, olu was nowhere whn Pete started staring in films. It dated back whn he starred as Okonkwo Chinua Achebe's literature -Thngs Fall Apart. I think Olu is a kid whn compared to Pete in the movie industry. So I blv Olu and his folks shuld be humble enuf 2 listen to an advisory comment of Pete Edochie. Again I blv that olu nt being an Igboman shuld nt take on Igbo roles as Igwe since he can not even pronouce the names and even his on name in a film. Pete cannot be seem to be tribalistic because Igbos are alrdy on top of the home video (Nollywood) befor now. Without the Igbos championing the home video, Olu and other Yoruba actors and actresses will be starving by now,

LOL
If igbos were to act in ONLY igbo movies - they would make far less than everyone

After 1) English 2) Yoruba genre, 3) Hausa genre, 4) Edo or Igbo lol

Now, should these pple be withdrawn frm the characters they act too cos they ar not Igbos and act Igbo cahracters in movies, see Pete is just being bitter and jealous for nothing. He even condemned the state government for choosing young pple as advisers.

i don't believe an uncivilized statement like this would come out of the mouth of Pete , he should bury his head in shame The role of Nelson Mandela was played in movie by a non south African and he did it well,
Re: Olu Jacobs Destroys Igbo Culture And Tradition — Pete Edochie by whiteroses(f): 10:54am On Aug 24, 2010
igbo culture and tradition again? it must be a very sensitive culture oh but i love igbos grin they always speak up even when they are wrong. so wetin olu jacobs should do, reject his roles cos of what someone thinks? even Jesus wouldn't do that. edochie really enjoys displaying his ignorance, din't he also say kidnappers pampered him in hostage and kept mosturizing his lungs with gin the other day? how dellusional lol

There is nothing wrong, anyone can act any movie, that is where versatality comes in , u must not be a thief before u can act as one. So papa pete just relax
Re: Olu Jacobs Destroys Igbo Culture And Tradition — Pete Edochie by ud4u: 11:20am On Aug 24, 2010
There is no issue in this topic, anybody can act any role provided you are educated on the role you are playing
Re: Olu Jacobs Destroys Igbo Culture And Tradition — Pete Edochie by Iyykanu: 11:31am On Aug 24, 2010
The point is Pete has priced himself beyond reach for many producers hence Olu Jacob who have same stature and charisma. HE has appeared in some many Royal coup, blindness, regret etc every weekend on African Magic. Olu does not come with conditions that Pete comes with like it must be this hotel or that. So Pete should not complain
Re: Olu Jacobs Destroys Igbo Culture And Tradition — Pete Edochie by Donmeca(m): 12:10pm On Aug 24, 2010
Most people ranting here do not and will not understand igbo culture and tradition. What's wrong in Pete trying to protect the sacred aspects of igboe culture from misinterpretation and thus misunderstanding. Some1 even mentioned his son being zee vitual. I believe that fellow must have consulted Zee for his fertility problem or stds. U guys shud giv d man a break jare!
Re: Olu Jacobs Destroys Igbo Culture And Tradition — Pete Edochie by GNBohr: 12:21pm On Aug 24, 2010
This is first time since I have been aware of the person of Pete Edochie, that he is not "very" knowledgeable about the trade he plied and made name and fortune from. He has allowed delusions to becloud his sense of reasoning and reality.

He directly attacked the appearance of Olu Jacobs in movies depicting Igbo stories or with Igbo theme. He pronounced the directors and producers as unintelligent. He claimed to be speaking in defense of Igbo culture and traditions. He clearly was upset with a particular non-Igbo person getting more roles in the so-called Igbo films.

Most comments so far has been to either castigate him or support him, very few touched on what Edochie missed in his comments.

He missed the fact that film industry is all about - make believe - mainly for entertainment. If it is for education and information it is called documentary. So producers/ directors and artistes are at liberty to portray what tickles their fancies, even in pornography.

Edochie acted many ruthless and wicked roles in his decades long career not because he is as a person a cultist, ritualist, wicked or cruel as a person. He has acted many damning roles but those who are close to him knows how caring and responsible he is.

Many people, races, cultures and traditions and even religion have been depicted in so many repulsive and non-agreeable light in films. Many different personalities have been made to act characters, most films depicting Arabs were actually acted by Europeans and Americans, many films depicting Africans were acted by non-African blacks, many non-speakers actually spoke foreign languages in films which in their ordinary non-acting lives they do not speak.

Fluency or proper words articulation when an act is speaking foreign language is not a determining factor. Filming making is not a language class. How proper a person speaks a foreign language can only be determined by the natural speakers. Do we as Nigerians, speak English with all the natural accents, intonation and inflections like the British, who are the natural speakers. Most of our actors and actresses in english-speaking movies speaks with bad diction. Does that made them a bad artistes.

Producers and most importantly scriptwriters are fantansy creators purely interested in commercial success of their products. For any one who has read the book "The Sword of Truth" that has become serialised into the Television production of "Legend of the Seeker" would know that many additions and removals had been done for the sake of Television adaptation. The same goes for the serie entitled "Spartacus". Those who read the original story of slave revolt in Roman Empire knows clearly that many modifications were added.

These and many more facts are what the legendary Pete Edochie missed completely in his comments. He was mistaken indeed and I am not in the least disappointed. For the reasons why he mouthed such inglorious statements can only be left for him to ponder on.

Truly, there are many inadequacies in our film industry but Edochie's approach through his comments is totally wrong and can never be right under any circumstances.

your ignorance has been exposed from the bold above

olu jacobs was the first nigerian to be featured in an international movie

1982(i think) Ashanti

you lookup the movie , about a white girl kidnapped

the movie wasnt produced nor directed by anyone Nigerian, then we were in the NTA era

i believe the movie got some laurels

so please , dont let petty/tribal sentiments cover the truth

pete edochie is a great actor, no one is taking it away from him

but he was shallow and petty in his words

words that he should have directed to producers not olu jacobs

Correct sir.

Is Pete actually that a versatile actor? He is too flat a character. Stereotype. Not able to act any role outside his Okonkwo persona. He is nowhere near Olu Jacobs both in depth and character adaptation. Remember Third Eye, Olu was the quitessential father/detective and so many others.

na wa. when will all these tribalism of a thing come to an end in dis country of ours? it has eaten soooooooooooo deep that we dont even care in displaying it? is this how it is in other part of the world? or is it just in Nigeria?

To start with, elder Pete shld even be happy that a non Igbo person is interested in interpreting a role as an Igbo person when he/she is not Igbo, cos, for me whenever a see a non yoruba that is acting as a yoruba person, i always like to see such movie, and if such person make mistakes, it will only make me laugh and nothing more, cos i will believe that the person is either acting that role for the love he/she has for that tribe, or just to make a leaving, and not to downgrade my culture or something.

Re: Olu Jacobs Destroys Igbo Culture And Tradition — Pete Edochie by AloyEmeka5: 3:47pm On Aug 24, 2010
It is obvious that Pete edochie is hating. He expected his igbo kinsmen to line him with the Igwe roles as he didn't see Olu as a formidable competition but it happened anyway. Olu Jacobs came in handy and over 90% of igwe roles in todays Nollywood is done by Olu Jacobs. So, Olu is taking his jobs and it must be irritating him badly.

He is a good actor tho but if Olu Jacobs is playing the role very much like him at a cheaper rate, why should he be needed?. Same thing Nkem Owoh did until John Okafor came from nowhere to become the usual favorites for local comedy watchers. Always be watching your back and you can't have it all.

Olu Jacobs is an international film actor o, he acted in Ashanti woman. I knew that films right from when I was small. Abeg Pete Edochie waka pass. Olu Jacobs is the man

nonsense
Re: Olu Jacobs Destroys Igbo Culture And Tradition — Pete Edochie by cjfavour(m): 5:16pm On Aug 24, 2010
THAT IS TRUE. YOU PEOPLE SHOULD STOP CRITICIZING PETE. YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT PETE IS THE FACE OF NOLLYWOOD. THOUGH I DON'T LIKE NIGERIA MOVIES BUT I KNOW THAT WHAT OLU AND AKI AND PAW PAW IS DOING IS BRINGING THE IGBO  TRADITIONAL RULERS ON THE MUD. CHECK ANY MOVIE THAT HAS LAZ EKWUEME, PETE EDOCHIE AND OTHER IGBOS AND YOU WILL SEE HOW THEY PORTRAYS THE IGWE ROLE.

YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT IGWE IN IGBO LAND IS THE SAME WITH THAT OF EMIR, OBA, ETC OF OTHER PLACES. PETE I KNOW IS NOLLYWOOD ANDNOLLYWOOD IS PETE. BELIEVE IT OR LEAVE IT.

I DON'T LIKE NIGERIA MOVIES BECAUSE I CANNOT LEARN ANYTHING FROM WATCHING IT.I PREFER FOREIGN. NIGERIA HAVE NOT LEARN HOW TO ACT FILMS.NO NIGERIAN  MOVIE WILL BE COMPARED TO THAT OF OTHER FOREIGN COUNTRIES EVEN SOUTH AFRICANS.OLU SHOULD STOP INSULTING NDI IGBO AND THEIR TRADITIONAL LEADERS. HE WILL NOT PORTRAY NANA OF ITSHEKIRI LIKE THAT, OR OBA OF BENIN, OR ANY YORUBA TRADITIONAL RULER, OR HAUSA.

Don't understand why Olu Jacobs should be playing Igwe.

And do not insult Pete Edochie! The man is a legend. angry
Re: Olu Jacobs Destroys Igbo Culture And Tradition — Pete Edochie by sjeezy8: 5:44pm On Aug 24, 2010
anyway pete is not even worth dissing-

Acting to Olu jacobs is an art- and it shows you dont see him selling himself to policians like Pete edochie.

Olu jacobs shouldnt even repsond. Just as Terry G and Dbanj did Kelly handsome the bitter small boy, Olu jacobs shouldnt even bring himself so low.

and pete is definately hating- he should have let it at Olu doesnt understand igbo culture and pronounciation- but he went further on his haterade/tribaslim and said- "why should an igwe role go to Olu he is not igbo"
Re: Olu Jacobs Destroys Igbo Culture And Tradition — Pete Edochie by cjfavour(m): 6:04pm On Aug 24, 2010
I'm not saying that Olu should stop acting igwe. No, what i'm saying is that he should know what he's doing. he should be collecting the boys when they give him some roles to play. Most of them does not know anything about Igbo's traditional institutiion. They don't visit home. He should know that he's an elderly man.

To those saying that he should not reply Pete. You should know that Pete is far greater than olu. No insult or disrespect intended. But that is a fact.Pete has been acting before Olu came on board. And to my knowledge he has not overtaking Pete.
