A 4 storey building just collapse in Itafaaji, Lagos Island.

There is a private school in that building and a lot of children are trapped in that building.

Some of the children are dead while some have been rescued. But a lot of children are still trapped inside the building.

Some parents have more than one child in the school, some have 2, some have up to 4.

The collapse was said to be as a result of a dredging that happen within the area that affected the building.

The Lagos state fire and emergency have reached the place and trying to rescue the children that are trapped.

This is the responsibility of the Lagos State government and not the Federal.

My concern here is that these crowd will complicate the rescue operations. Emergency management is a problem for our people. I know parents and guardians will be greatly downtrodden but they should be kept at some distance for trained rescue personnel to carry out their work.
It's a pity and my condolences to the affected families. We need to up our game in safety and standard. That building must have been in an unsafe condition for long but no one saw or was not reported, or seen and reported but appropriate actions were not taken.
We will continue in this way until we decide to be serious without sentiment.

brother, you are absolutely right but remember this is Nigerian where rules of law doesn't work. Don't be surprised if those rescue personal refuse them entry to that place, they might start stoning them.

Architects have nothing to do with the structural integrity of a building. Civil/structural Engineers are saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that every structure(building in this instance) meet the necessary structural requirements for its intended use.

Architect role is not supervison of building. His role is in design. Managing the construction is the role of a Builder or Civil Engineer who specializes in structures.

I have always seen this coming. The last encounter I had with this Building Control people(LASBCA) was Terrible, the money I coughed out despite paying all relevant government fees and a registration number..
They are just so concerned about the money, rather than the job. We hope Sanwo will look into this menace.

True...but regardless of incompetent architects or contractors.... the City/State has to give approval. An investigation should be done ...the one who signed off on the building need to be the first to be questioned.
