Why did she assign the case to herself as Presiding Justice in the first place?
Because she know there is no bases for bias as the court has now affirmed.

Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa has recused herself from the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

The People's democratic party had asked Justice Bulkachuwa to recuse herself because she is married to a senator-elect of the All Progressives Congress.

Counsel to Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP, Livy Ozuokwu asked the Chairman of the tribunal to recuse herself on the grounds that she will be biased in the case.

On Wednesday, Justice Bulkachuwa recused herself after a prolonged sitting.

More to come.

I hope when this matter gets to the Supreme court. and apc demands that Mary Odili steps down. pdp would not start that democracy is under attack
We will remind PDP then, most are already jubilating as if Atiku had finally won and has been declared winner.
Don't worry we would remind them.

I like this woman!

Justice Bulkachuwa personally decided to recuse herself on the ground that the law has been properly stated.

We have used dirty politics to destroy this nation finish!

Why did she wait 7days to inauguration before she recused herself? Why, why why?

I'm still weeping for the this country!

She was forced out if not, she wanted to preside over the petition with bias mind.

Case closed, PDP should find another excuse. She even recused herself voluntarily, the other judges on the panel dismissed the petition. If she had any hidden agenda, she would have stayed on the trial since the petition was dismissed. PDP are just holding on to straws.

More reason they’ll lose the appeal. A good lawyer must know his judge especially because Law is not a precise science unlike Mathematics where exactitude and predictions are somewhat possible. Judges are human. You accused one of them wrongly and expect to have their discretion exercised in your favour where the equities are equal - not likely! First in time without soiled hands will prevail ceteris paribus! Livy just shot himself in the foot!

Poor reasoning may have caused you this. You called that voluntary decision or stepped down after been dragged for this long & she had no rope to hold again. She did that to save her few months before retirement from service. So, was you say she didn't know the stand of the law before now?

You're reasoning poorly, I think. Or you haven't bothered reading up on this issue! The law did not disqualify her. She recused herself, as in excused herself from the case because of a perceived potential conflict of interest or lack of impartiality

At the resumption of the Election Petition Tribunal sitting May 15, the tribunal asked the PDP and its candidate to formally file an application asking Justice Bulkachuwa to withdraw, which the party did on May 16.

At the resumption of sitting today, the tribunal dismissed the application by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party and its presidential candidate seeking to disqualify Justice Bulkachuwa from presiding over the five-man panel tribunal that is hearing petitions challenging the declaration that President Muhammadu Buhari won the February 23 presidential election.

Doesn't matter much. The Appeal Court is compromised and hopeless, so they will queue behind Buhari.

No time for their shenanigans.

You ain't God and that is only a blip not an end. He will be back in no time. He mustn't contest election to be back. In fact, except for presidential berth, saraki is done with local elections. 8yrs gov and 8yrs senator amongst which he is senate president.

Saraki is all round on the rise.
