Most activist against rape often fail to emphasize on the indecent dressing causative factor of most rape cases.

Although no rapist can be justified by the excuse that he was aroused and led into the criminal act by a woman or girl's exposed body, yet it may be too late for the victim when the deed is done. Dress well so you will be addressed well!

people can be so stupid, after rape incidents, idiots will ask what is she wearing? it is like asking the owner of a stolen car, what is the color of your car?

where you live do you have a street gate?
do have a fence around your house and possibly another gate at your house?
do you have a door at the entrance of your house with a functional lock?
do u have a drawer you keep your valuables with a functional lock?
do you own a generator and is it properly secured?
do you own a car with anti theft security and lock?

if you don't have any of the above things mentioned, at least you own a smart phone, do u keep it lying around carelessly without guard?

your guess is as good as mine.
all those precautions listed above is to deter theft and it works most times, except for a few. people have desires whether moral or not and it's your responsibility to do all u can to keep their harmful desires in check as regards your affairs that's why you secure your properties.
how much more your body and health? if you truly believe that wearing indecent clothing at all times and events doesn't make you vulnerable to rape then my SISTER, you are another potential rape victim in the making !

Of all the things you said, you still arrived at "except for a few" so the ones that take precautions and still get raped what's the reason? And the other ones that still open up their body and NEVER EVER get raped what is the reason?

you still didn't discredit what I posted as false. Rape has many causes, indecent dressing is one of them and not the sum total of the causes. if anyone says indecent dressing isn't one of the potential causes of rape then that person is only deceiving herself.

the question you raised can be answered by common logic.
if you live a healthy lifestyle, exercise, eat right and abstain from drugs it doesn't guarantee you will live long. u may still die earlier than someone who does the complete opposite but the TRUTH is that majority that live a healthy lifestyle live longer than those who don't... science has shown. same applies with rape victims. only a FEW that are unfortunate get raped despite all the precautions but that doesn't mean those precautions are invalid, compared to MANY of those who ignore all precautions.

What about the 18 month old that gets raped or the 5 year old girl? Was it their dressing?

A rapist would rape a woman wearing a frock. The dressing doesn't count

Copied from a nairalander....

OP is naïve and ill informed.
If you think mode of dressing triggers rape, then your reasoning is very shallow.
You have not started solving the problem, you are adding to it.

One thing you should understand is that rapists are sick people.
A rapist will rape you whether you are dressed well or not.

If it is true that mode of dressing is what triggers rape, then children should be safe from rape.

But in reality, they are not safe.

Most cases of rape news on nairaland front pages involves children and minors not up to 18.

Should mode of dressing be blamed for that one too

If you think dressing well and covering up your body will protect you from rapists, then you are very stupid and naïve.

Underate rapists at your own peril.

They are just giving the rapists reasons and justifications for their actions.

But they shy away from answering directly when you ask about babies, toddlers that are raped.

A rapist doesn't need a reason to rape. He rapes because that is what he does.

rapist can be anybody in society but most are sick people psychologically and they become addicts to their behavior. And like all addicts they need stimulants to fuel their desires ( that's why rehab are stimulant free environment to lessen or stop the desire for ones addiction).

for someone who is addicted to SEX - cause that's what drives most rapist. anything and anyone who can stimulate their senses towards sex becomes a stimulant, a trigger for the unwholesome desire to manifest.

now normal people also get this same stimuli, but because we are psychological stable we look for legal and ethical ways to satisfy our urges. eg get a girlfriend, get married etc.

but this doesn't apply to the rapist that prey on minors (many are broke by the way, or living from hand to mouth, or have low self esteem so they can't approach an adult female). so they approach the next best thing to a mature female, that is a minor female and knowing they are young and can be easily exploited they use this to their advantage.

but where did the motive come from? from the trigger, the stimulus, the female that dresses provocatively on the street, on TV, in movies etc.

so it's all a circle, if ladies don't get raped for dressing indecently , some psychopathic loser is using their nude images as a fuel to sexually assault and rape minor helpless girls.

if you don't cherish your cherries by protecting them, is it another person that will cherish it?

if anybody transports huge amounts of money in transparent vans without security, is it the poor citizens responsibility to protect and ensure the money arrives safely to its destination?...NO!

you cannot push your responsibility of first protecting yourself to another person. If you cannot CONTROL the way you dress, what moral ground do you have to tell someone else to CONTROL their urges?

both of you are guilty of having no self control. it's your responsibility to dress properly, such as it is his responsibilities to control his urges.

Deal with ur responsibility let him deal with his responsibilities, and let's stop throwing responsibilities all around.

Like most crimes, for a rape to occur there has to be motive, opportunity and access. It has nothing to do with ‘indecent’ dressing or porn. If a rapist meets a woman dressed in a burka were he has opportunity and access he will rape her. Motives for rape varies, some get off from the power they wield over their victims, some hate and want to punish/humiliate their victims for rejecting their advances etc.

If porn and indecent dressing was a huge motivator why then do rapes happen in sharia countries, where the women are forced to cover up and little to no access to porn.

It's obvious you don't know what rapist are, you think rapist are drawn by the way women dress? you need to study more about sex.

This guys derive pleasure in the violence act of rape and scream of their victims, in many cases the blood.

Human have different sexual pattern or coding, and fantasies... I'm leaving that for another day.
That's why we have:
paedophiles,
BDSM,
Gays,
Lesbians and so on.

The Rape thingy entails more than what you know.

Rapist are like human with some of sort of mental disorders. No amount of decent dressing can save you if you're unfortunate enough to find yourself in the environment of a rapist.

Lol. I don't support the op but I am interested in the logic of your argument. There are all sorts of rapists. Some rapists are paedophiles(homosexual or heterosexual), some are homosexuals, some are heterosexual, some are traumatised, some are mentally ill and some are fuelled by pure psychopathy and sadism. Only a few use rapist as a form of revenge. Op didn't address the fact that there are different kinds of rapists.

Could op be talking about the male heterosexual rapists fuelled by lust?

NB : in all cases of rape, the rapist is solely responsible.

you agreed indecent dressing plays are role at least.

why there is an increase of rape in Islamic countries is because of easy access to pornography and worst of all hypocrisy on the part of those that practice Islam there.

it is wrong to view pornography based on their religion but they still go ahead and do it in secret. now they get addicted to it and suddenly have the urge to try it out. etc

point is "indecency" is still the major root cause. every dysfunctional behavior in society have their pathways that have been studied but in this age and time, nobody wants to agree their "indecency" can serve as a trigger for rape either for themselves or for another poor victim(be it a baby)

I agree with your points.

It appears that people focus on the male heterosexual types that when a woman gets raped, they blame it on her dressing, even though decent at the time.

This alone makes victims keep mute to avoid being blamed for it
Re: Your Dress May Put You At Risk Of Rape! by LewsTherin: 10:16am On Jun 25, 2019
OP said "it puts a woman at risk". He never said it is a cause.

In life, there are things one does to REDUCE THE RISK of falling into difficult situations. Just like has been said here, having a security gate at your house reduces the risk of being robbed. Not having a security gate is not a cause of being robbed but you can be sure that if you left your car where there was no security gate and you were robbed, you would be told that it was your fault.

While indecent dressing should not be looked at as a cause (not even THE cause), there is no denying that just like avoiding dangerous neighborhoods, just like avoiding drug use and drug users, and just like avoiding known rapists, decent dressing is another way of reducing the risks of being raped, molested and or harassed.

IT IS NOT A CAUSE OR THE CAUSE OF RAPE. It is an action taken that helps to reduce the risks of being raped.

I wish everyone who read the Op and placed a comment took a little time off t0 read the main article with the link attached to the Op. Rape is just 0ne of the huge cost of indecent dressing and exp0sure. Fornication(Premarital sex) and Adultery(Extramarital sex) are prevalent t0day as a result of the virtual nudity fashion of present day. Employees may be sexually exploited by empl0yers for this same reason. Same thing goes for students and lecturers. Y0u may keep defending indecency but it is a wise adage that says "Preventi0n is better than cure"! 4
