Thought Muslims over the years always criticise the christians for being too divided while priding themselves as one, some even claim a muslim can pray in any mosque anywhere they find themselves etc, however judging from this sunni and shia hostility, it is clearly evident that not only is Islam pathetically divided along two parallel line, they are also fatally irreconcilable. If you go further down you are likely to see so many muslim denominations disguised as associations scattered all over the nooks and crannies of Nigeria, with each of them possessing a unique identity that sometimes make them tag those not fully subscribed to their philosophical reflections as fake, they are now so numerous to count while the number keeps growing. Take Ahmadiyya for example, for all I know about them don't pray in any other mosque except theirs, though I stand to be corrected on this. From this numerous revelations isn't it safe to conclude that christianity with its numerous associations even if they can't relate so well constitute no serious threat to each others peaceful existence unlike the testimony of what is obtainable between just two sect of Islam in Iran, Iraq and even Nigeria where peace have become elusive among them due to this differences, while hostility keeps growing by the day and may so endure till God's kingdom come.

When Nigerians react to this issue of shia islam from human right perspective, I feel sorry for the country. Propagation and spread of shia islam in Nigeria can lead to many things that are difficult to mention.

For student of history, the perennial hatred among the arab countries is as a result of what? Despite the fact that they are all predominantly muslims, they still kill each other and wage war at every slight provocation.

The fact remains that majority of world muslims are sunnis and the doctrines of shia is slightly different which is believed to be deviation from the way it was practiced by the prophet.

It could have been better managed when it had not gained prominence, unfortunately we lack such intelligence in our dear country.

Leaving them to spread isn't that good for the country and crushing them by force can lead to serious internal war. Mosquito has perched on delicate pedulum, it requires patience and wisdom.

U are just another sunni Muslim.. Who told you that what you practice in your sect is really different from theirs?
Religion is the biggest cause of our backwardness.

You must be so smart. In your own wisdom, escalating beats managing crisis? Are you ready to supply the Army all the men in your family if this issue escalates further?

this country is operating on a host parasite relationship with the south being the host and the north being the parasite. But the major problem is the south west cause they have failed to take a stand like the south east and to some extent the south south. The three region must join hands to shed the parasitic north or both the host and parasite wil die.

I am proudly naive grin

Which of the NGOs? You haven't been paying attention.

It would have been a slap because the military and unruly civilians are fighting over seniority abi?

Proudlyngwa:

You are naive about the army and rules of engagement.

If they COAS had turned back, it would have been a slap to Nigeria as a whole. Why do you think most of the foreign NGOs didn't push for sanctions, because the shites crossed a very rough line and could set precedence.
The office of the chief of army staff represents the army and he would have lost all respect, if he had turned back,

If you engage the military, they have a right to defend themselves and they are not trained in nonlethal warfare..

What we should be worried about is, what gives the shites so much confidence that makes them feel they are above authority and even close down public utilities during their procession irrespective of whoever is coming.

For the avoidance of doubt, the convoy was attacked with weapons. Not just sticks and stones.
The army had every legal right to respond with force as per the Rules of Engagement even under the Geneva Convention.

Human rights issues against the Shia Movement is another kettle of fish and should not be swept under the rug with the reason for the arrest of their leader.

The Shiite movement is a large group. They have thousands of owners or maybe millions in Nigeria. So they have numbers.

They have not been treated fairly, the Leader is still in detention against the wish of the court.

The group has strong support from Iran. That country called Iran is very rich and prepared for any form of "show down". They make billions from Crude oil.

We all know that the Muslim majority in the North do not like the Shiites. They are not best of friends.

The Shiites have their faults. We all know this.

However the Shiites have not been treated fairly.

Two wrongs don't make it right
Where is El Zak Zaky?

Government should be more sensitive when dealing with their so called enemies or opposition.

This is how insurgency starts. Remember how Boko Haram started too.

My prediction

Iran is not so rich anymore, biting sanctions from USA, is crippling their economy.

Yes? And 500+ military men died?

Rules of engagement under Geneva Convention said when people refuse to allow Chief of Commander to pass. They should escalate the matter and leave 300+ bodies.

The Chief of Army could have put on his best fakest smile, asked to see their leader, cajole them but no they choose to escalate it.

No. Maybe one or two were slightly injured. None died.

The refusal to allow passage didn't cause engagement. It was the onslaught of attack that started it.

That is why I said Burutai lack common sense. I wonder how he got to that position?

Every leader idiot would know that when you see a gathering of people, it is a time bomb waiting to explode. They can do and undo.

The Army should have handled it better or TURNED BACK

However, we are Nigerians. They must show that they are powerful. The Army was too powerful to admit defeat, too proud to turn back. They should be taught a lesson and so therefore, they were taught a lesson.

I remember I asked questions in 2015, wondering how a trained army general, who is yet to win a war against insurgents, would massacre civilians for blocking his path, sowing the seeds for another insurgency.

If the FG is more interested in peace and security for its citizens, they should initiate dialogue with the sect with probable release of their leader if it becomes necessary.

If the sect is growing, it's no one's headache. The members are not under coercion. Any privileges they enjoy is enjoyed by the mainstream Sunni/Izala sect.

If really there is something the establishment knows that we don't, they should educate us.

In the absence of any such information, I believe that if there's any truth to the allegations about planned domination by the Shi'a, then it is most likely true that there is a planned Islamisation of Nigeria. The modus operandi of the two sects in Nigeria are the same, afterall. If there isn't, their leader should be released, but as part of a planned peace process. No particular religion or sect owns Nigeria.

Another bit of history to set the records straight.

When the Nigerian Army assassinated three sons of El-Zakzaky in 2014, GEJ personally put a call through to him and apologized.

That's what a leader does that wants peace.

When people don't respect law and order chaos breaks out. And that is an unconfirmed report probably schemed by the members of IMN.

Anyways I'm in full support of their leader being released in consonance with the court judgement. But they cannot deny the fact that they created this problem themselves.

The topic here is not Boko Haram. But I will indulge you and deviate briefly, hoping that we are not going to go back and forth over this pointlessly.

Mohammed Yusuf was killed in 2009, a year before GEJ became President. He was killed extrajudicially in the custody of the NPF. That single act was the main catalyst that transformed the movement into the terrorist group it became under the leadership of Shekau. GEJ became president on 2010.

While the group was able to take control of many LGAs under the watch of GEJ, he redeemed himself when he carried out a 6-week operation that reclaimed back ALL those territories, prior to the 2015 elections.

El-zakzaky lost three sons that day, but hell did not break loose. If you could recall, the present leaders killing his followers tried goading him then into taking a hardline stance against GEJ. All that is history now, but for anyone willing to understand what is happening now, it's an important thing to note.

GEJ did not do anything about the extra judicial killings. He was the acting President then. Perhaps, if he had done something, many people wouldn't have lost their lives to the insurgency. Buhari has made same mistakes with Phyton dance and he is making the same with this Shias.

GEJ did not redeem himself. Continue telling yourself that. He was the same president that was in denial that students were abducted.
