OP, Tell us what they did that attracted the attention of government.
My former Boss was a Muslim and she never support the group for once. She said they became a government of their own and were taxing people just like MASSOB did back then in Onitsha.
So who do we believe now?

The Shiite movement is a large group. They have thousands of owners or maybe millions in Nigeria. So they have numbers.

They have not been treated fairly, the Leader is still in detention against the wish of the court.

The group has strong support from Iran. That country called Iran is very rich and prepared for any form of "show down". They make billions from Crude oil.

We all know that the Muslim majority in the North do not like the Shiites. They are not best of friends.

The Shiites have their faults. We all know this.

However the Shiites have not been treated fairly.

Two wrongs don't make it right
Where is El Zak Zaky?

Government should be more sensitive when dealing with their so called enemies or opposition.

This is how insurgency starts. Remember how Boko Haram started too.

My prediction

If Government is unable to " receive sense" these Shiites will pick up arms and become another Boko Haram in the next few years.
i don't think so. They are peaceful. All they want is their leader. Even if they'd ever have to fight back, they will only fight govt and or the forces. I sure know they won't fight civilians.

And prosecute Burutai.

I don't care about the barricade. The army could have turned back, handled in a different manner, asked to speak to their leader but no, they had to use brute force as expected.

A little history about the man El-Zakzaky .

Attack and Persecution of the Shittes Sect
in 2007 - The state government of Sokoto reacted to the rise of Shia Islam in the state by taking such measures as demolishing the Islamic Center

In 2014 -  the Zaria Quds Day massacres took place, leaving 35 dead.

In 2015 - the Zaria massacre during which 348 Shia Muslims were killled by the Nigerian Army.

In April 2018 -  clashes broke out as Nigerian police fired teargas Shia protesters who were demanding the release of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, who had been detained for two years with no trial. The clashes left at least one protester dead and several others injured. Further, Nigerian police detained at least 115 protesters.

In October 2018 - Nigerian military killed at least 45 peaceful Shia protesters. After soldiers opened fire, they targeted protesters fleeing the chaos. Many of the injured were shot in the back or legs.

July 2019 - Protests erupts at the nations capital as the group now bolder than ever confront security forces to a show down

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Qir5un5xjE

What led to the arrest and incarceration  of Shitte leader El-Zakzaky?

not really sure if the write up is objective enough to make us draw a reasonable conclusion but questions need to be asked about the kind of relationship that existed between the man and our president.

He is propagating a kind of Islam, Shia version, that the ruling Muslim elites of this country, whom are aligned to and subjects of the Saudi Arabia Sunnis, don't want. Saudi and Iran are enemies, and the Saudis don't want Shia Islam to gain ground in Nigeria, hence why they are trying to stop their preaching, movement and growth. I want to fault the administration for the continual detention of Sheik Ibrahim Elzakzaky, but in further thought, its a good idea politically to hold this man behind bars, aside the fact that he is a proven fanatic down history lane, this man has also been responsible for the death of hundreds of followers down the years(bear in mind the massacre of over 300 followers who laid Seige on the Chief of Army Staff).
Government through the constitution should simply manage the situation. No one is bigger than this country!!

Absolutely. We have seen this play out before, and we are still trying to clean up the mess from that one. Boko haram started off this way.

You are naive about the army and rules of engagement.

If they COAS had turned back, it would have been a slap to Nigeria as a whole. Why do you think most of the foreign NGOs didn't push for sanctions, because the shites crossed a very rough line and could set precedence.
The office of the chief of army staff represents the army and he would have lost all respect, if he had turned back,

If you engage the military, they have a right to defend themselves and they are not trained in nonlethal warfare..

What we should be worried about is, what gives the shites so much confidence that makes them feel they are above authority and even close down public utilities during their procession irrespective of whoever is coming.

It's just like saying some Christians don't like a particular denomination and then you take away the rights of those Christians. The rights can only be taken away if that denomination is violent. most people who know them always say "the Shiites are known to be peaceful"

When Nigerians react to this issue of shia islam from human right perspective, I feel sorry for the country. Propagation and spread of shia islam in Nigeria can lead to many things that are difficult to mention.

For student of history, the perennial hatred among the arab countries is as a result of what? Despite the fact that they are all predominantly muslims, they still kill each other and wage war at every slight provocation.

The fact remains that majority of world muslims are sunnis and the doctrines of shia is slightly different which is believed to be deviation from the way it was practiced by the prophet.

It could have been better managed when it had not gained prominence, unfortunately we lack such intelligence in our dear country.

Leaving them to spread isn't that good for the country and crushing them by force can lead to serious internal war. Mosquito has perched on delicate pedulum, it requires patience and wisdom.

So you are practicing the right religion while the Shias practice the wrong one. You are more fanatic than boko haram terrorists. undecided

Shia Islam will spread without anyone's permission let alone sunni's. It is like Catholics asking that pentacostalism be stopped. The more the shiites are persecuted the more they gain ground.
Before Islam there were traditional religions in Nigeria and Islam didn't seek their permission to spread.
Alllow Shiites to be it is a live and let live scenario.

peaceful ke!!!... They are because they are in minority... When their numbers grow you will know they are not peaceful... Iran and Saudi use many countries for proxy wars.. Saudi sees itself as defender of the Sunni faith while Iran sees themselves as defender of the shia faith. Iran tries to finance shitte sects around the world so that they can grow and have more presence. Saudi is afraid of this and tries to check mate Iran. It's all Saudi vs Iran.... Sunni vs Shiite.. They have hated each other for century. Nigeria is Sunni so Saudi would have cautioned the FG not to give the Shiites breathing space because with time they will dominate

Have you ever seen any Christian denomination in Nigeria attacking the convoy of Army COAS before in this country? You think the military holding him are stupid? They are trying to stop him from breeding a new set of terrorists, terrorists that even at this their infant stage were so bold to block and attack the convoy of the army COAS. What do you think they will do when they start getting training and weapons from Iran?
