The Phoenix is a cosmic force, that she tapped into and got taken over by.

This force also has inhabited other beings and not just Jean Grey.

When she took over Jean Grey she actually created her own version of Jeans body while she buried Jeans body at the bottom of the sea, where it was recovered much later.

Anyways, i think the movies are really doing a terrible job of portraying these superheroes esp superman and xmen. They also made me hate fantastic four more than i already did!
