Good development, let our money stay in Nigeria, Togo, Benin, and all these African nations should be importing from us, not the other way round. If we import less, our currency value will stabilise...it's the balance of payments principle...if you export more, your currency will be in demand for payments, this increases its value. Let the money stay here, this is the way to true growth, development and prosperity. Every nation is fighting for itself, from America to UK, these African countries are parasites to us, they are feeding off us, without buying much from us, let's stop this nonsense, we can grow all these food here, we have the most blessed land in the world, for Agriculture.

Too much hatred and bitterness in one piece.
Can you comment reasonably without getting Biafra involved in your stupidity; this is exactly why we can't move forward in a divided nation mared by nepotism, tribalism and religious intolerance.
When Buhari does something commended we commend him; that doesn't mean you should force your political ideology on everyone or that everyone should support your choice. One thing makes man superior to the angels and that's the ability to make choices, so be reasonable and learn to tolerate each others ideology.

Don't mind him. Instead of us to be uniting and seeing a way to benefit from moves such as this one which is a rare positive from this government, some people just wanna throw stones.
All I know is, I'll be farming rice next season. Land cheap for rent here.

It is not the farmers producing the rice that is the problem, it is the mill where the rice is being processed. It seems like after processing the rice, they pack stone put and also shaft, so that the number of bags they produce will increase.
very true, you washed the rice for more than 5 times for you to be satisfied to reduced the stones. The stones are just too much.

When you produce your rice, I will wait to see which country will allow you to export to their country.

Shebi na only una Waka come
Is the rice smuggled in from Benin rep and Niger rep cultivated in those countries, does it make sense to you that other countries would allow importers of rice to import through their ports and now help in smuggling same into your country?

Even the so-called Nigeria rice are all full of Stones. They never improve on their production yield but can enforce total shut down on our land borders. The rate of appendicitis symptoms will increase tremendously in our various hospitals for these stones and tares in the rice. Very bad.

This is actually my concern. Nigerians are always behind when it comes to improvement n packaging. How will someone be selling stone-filled rice for God sake.

ORIENTATION101:
When government put policy in place to ensure easy way of life .some greedy nigerians will still find a way to circumvent the policy and inflict pain on fellow countrymen and blame the government.

Why rebag local rice as foreign and sell at exorbitant price. The good thing about border closure is foreign rice re fading away gradually.

And the farmers re getting attention now. Our money flow should be from govt -banks- firms- households -farmers- .
Government needs to also have an Agricultural agency/board, that will be run by proffessionals, managed by private consultants, who are proffessionals in rice farming, to grow rice across geo political zones, specifically, areas where rice production will thrive. We have abundant land, and government have the resources. This will make rice production surplus, and cheaper for the people. Everywhere in the world, Government participate in food production, in order to subsidize it for the masses. Regulation and price ceiling by this Agency will also help. Government must intervene to make things easier for the people, this is the essence of government, not just endless politicking, like we see in Nigeria.

To be sincere...... Is a nice idea locking down the land boarders.....

But in the real Sense, how will local man feed?

December is fast approaching..... A time everything increases, can a local man be able to afford a bag of rice?

This a very big opportunity for the people in the market.......even if they buy at a lower rate they will definitely increase the price.

Government should help regulate the price.......if at all this thing will work!

This government does not have your interest at heart. And they didn't close the borders for your sake. It was for the sake of those who are close to the seat of government involved in rice farming.

If they really have your interest, they should stop importing refined petroleum products and make our refineries work.

They should stop importing keke and set up a production factory for it.

They should stop budgeting for generators importation and give us steady light.

There are two types of Nigerian rice. Stone-free and the one from local rice meals. If you buy stone free and still complain of stones, then you need to get your brain checked. It might be a psychological issue.
can you please tell me the stone free type of rice. I will be expecting your response.

Relax and ask questions so that you will be enlightened. Don't just complain blindly.
I've been eating Stone-free Nigerian rice for almost 10 years now and have never had to cook it differently than how foreign rice is cooked. Never bit a single stone in those 10 years.
When you go to the market, ask for "Stone -Free” rice. They'll sell to you. If you want to buy in bag, go to where they sell foreign rice, they also have a host of Nigerian bagged rice there. All stone free and sweeter than foreign rice. E dey swell pass too. U won't regret it.
Miva Rice, Mama Gold (I'm presently eating this), Mama's Pride, etc.

“If you go to Dandume, Kafur and Bakori, you will see how those rice dealers are mopping up the locally milled rice which they transport to Kano, where they just sieve and re-bag it as foreign one,” he said. Farouk added that the development has caused the market price of the locally processed rice to skyrocket.

This is where government need to play its role. These are the economic saboteurs.

I was about replying him but felt it's of no use, so Coscharis, Josan rice and other mills in Anambra all have people close to power, same for rice mills and farmers in Ogun, Ebonyi, Niger, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano etc all have people close to power?
Some people and their reasoning can really scare the devil

Please try respond like a learned man...when I say government grow food, I mean in commercial/mass production quantities...say what you know, countries all over the world have nationalised industries, managed by private proffessionals to provide basic needs for the people, the essence is to compete with private firms in the sector, with competition price reduces for the masses...this is the essence. Everyone can not be a farmer... please let's talk like learned men. The issue here is pricing, affordability of food for the people.

Nice summation from a neutral Nationalist. If we can endure the rough times now, hopefully it will be better off last last. It is a welcome development as we are in a bid to diversify, encourage local rice farmers, and farmers in general

Buhari has written his name in "Gold" forever for this Landmark action.

Rice remains the second most consumed staple in Nigeria after bread, as such the demand is all year round.

Nigeria will soon have a new set of millionaires i.e those who invest massively in Rice production and milling. Good hygiene and packaging will push for more demand locally. The concept of a nation consciously creating a set of Super-rich people so they can drive the domestic market necessitated the creation of Transcorp(Nigeria), Choleban (South Korea-Samsung, Mitsubushi etc), Kiruzu (Japan- Sony, Toyota, Mitshututa), Corporate Elite (USA- Ford, Rockefeller, GM,).

Nigeria is the Biggest market for Rice in Africa with a projected population of 180 million Nigerians, the size of the market can not be under-hyped.

Weldone Mr. Buhari, By next year we'll have the first set of millionaires and more local Jobs will be created.
