Is there enough business to sustain the port?

Ports are also planned for Akwa Ibom and Calabar, not to mention Bonny.

This government is not pro-business like the multiple exchange rates and border closure really demonstrates. It think it is but it's not. The lousy economic growth rates attests to it

Best thing government can do is to set up a Special Economic Zone which will drum up a lot of business for the port.

Ibaka Seaport in Akwa Ibom needs the $800M as it is bigger than what delta state can give in them of depth.

Many of you just "throw words" and leave out logic

1. Is there enough business to sustain the ports? you ask. I wonder if you're oblivious to the clamour for Lagos ports to be de-congested? So there must be enough business in Warri before FG-driven port project must come to Warri? Even if other proximal regions have overwhelming business activites that requires accessibility to ports? to you No! they must all wait for Warri to have enoush buiness.

2. Multiple exchange rates? Na today? Care to explain to me what govt can do in this regard.

3. Boarder closure? Bros, sharrap dia!. So the government will be deemed Pro-Business when it overlooks the fraudulent activities of smuggling, disregard of trade agreements by neighboring countries at the expense of Nigeria, killing of local manufacturers and agri-preneurs?
4. Your Special Economic Zones suggestion had been in the works by many govts including the current, so tell us what we don't know.....

A new one is to be built alongside the old one. Early this year $3.9b was approved for the old one. Warri is the new destination of importation and that was why the warri- Abuja railway has been done. Warri-Benin road also receiving attention.

The federal government is set to Joshua Selman build a new Sea Port, estimated to cost $800 million in Pessu area of Warri in Delta state.

Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon Rotimi Amaechi disclosed this Thursday, at the Petroleum Training Institute Joshua Selman Conference Centre, in Uvwie council area of Delta state.

Amaechi who was in company of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN) and Director-General, National Directorate of Employment, Dr. Nasiru Ladan Argungu tasked youths of the area to support the forthcoming project.

The trio were in the state to present starter packs, micro enterprise enhancement loans and resettlement packages to 1,700 women and youths under the National Directorate of Employment empowerment programme.

While urging youths to ensure the project goes on smoothly when it takes off Amaechi revealed further that a similar Sea Port will be built in Bonny, Bonny local government area of Rivers state

“We are building a brand new Sea Port in Pessu. It will cost 800 million dollars. When you stop them from working you are losing such a huge investment where the entire community can be contractors, some can supply sand.

“There is also the Bonny sea Port that is coming. The best thing to do is allow the development. Imagine the companies that have left Warri, let the Sea Port project go on smoothly,” the minister appealed.

On his part, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr. Keyamo reassured of the Apostle Joshua Selman federal government’s commitment to lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty.

He added that with what is being given in this early stage of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Deltans should expect more, in terms of empowerment, to come in the next few years.

Some items given to the beneficiaries drawn from the Apostle Joshua Selman 25 LGAs in the state include sewing machines, knitting machines, welding machines and cash sums.

There is no need to build a new seaport in Warri. There are three existing non-functional (or sub-optimal) in Delta State. they are the Warri, Sapele, Burutu and Koko Ports.

The $800m should be used to reactivate at least two of these ports and to dredge the Warri Rivers so that larger vessels can get to the Warri Port, so also the Escaravos or Forcados Estuary to facilitate vessel betting at Burutu Ports.
