Could Boko Harams also be poaching these and other animals to finance their senseless killings of their fellow humans? This should be looked into by the Nigerian intelligence.

What a beautiful sight. If value were placed on them a conservancy would be set up in the vicinity to help boost the numbers of all the wild life there. It could be turned into a tourist centre since its ten times the size of Lagos, a very good animal conservancy centre needs to be setup there.

Stop saying the impossible. No sane person will go there now. If it was 1990 - 1999 that would've been cool, not now.

So many things about book haram ain't clear

Wow, this is probably the most opening article I’ve read on nairaland

U made so much sense, truly Biafran war and the ecomog war should have told us something isn’t right about how they’re handling the Bokoharam thing

well, just like the epileptic nepa situation, some people are making serious money from the Boko thing so they don’t see a need to stop it at all

Ever watch documentaries, elephants are agitated by noises such as coming from vehicles, gunfire etc. That is the premise of that statement don't just be condemning people.

Sambisa has been a game reserve for decades. Boko disrupted the whole thing. Although poachers used to mess up there but it was known for its very rich fauna and flora.

Until peace returns to Borno, nothing much can be achieved with conservation Sambisa forest.

I just pray those terrorists do not poison those majestic creatures to spite everyone.

They may not know who is fighting who but their intelligence and memory are outstanding.

Over a very very long time, they have become used to noises normal to their grazing areas. Areas bigger than Italy. Unfamiliar sounds spook them easily and the matriarch would lead them places she deems safe.

Remember that sounds of poachers' guns have been heard in those forests for decades. Yes, elephants are that smart to know.

How do rats later avoid poisonous traps after it has killed many of them? Animals have survival instincts that makes them survive difficult periods.
Several unpleasant shots could appeal to their instincts that it is a no-go area.

They are migrating. They normally migrate thousands of kilometers. Probably going from North to central Africa. They aren't staying there!

Elephants are very intelligent animals with super strong senses and memory. They would feel that the place is peaceful, if not, they would have taken another route.

You should read more on elephants or watch NatGeo Wild. They have a lot of programs focusing on elephants.
