This could be one of the major reasons why we are not doing well in terms of research of international repute in the medical field simply because our medical Professors believe that fellowship is equal to a Ph.D.

Most of this Medical consultants earn good pay but they will still strike to suffer sick innocent citizens.

The solution to their problem is not strike but dialogue.

Dialogue only works in a civilized and lawful nation ruled by people of high intellect...

Nigeria and it's several ego-driven agencies and institutions coming out with half baked, preposterous and unwarranted regulations that lead to nothing but chaos in the country.

An example is this malicious directive which will have absolutely no impact on medical education in our dear country.

They make rules in the confines of their cushy offices without due consultation with critical stakeholders and then, try to force it down the throat of the recipients. The recipients of course are expected to rebel and reject the directive!

Same issue with Minister of Education, Adamu who scrapped postutme but came back a year later, after realizing the foolery of his directive and the gargantuan failure it led to.

It seems we will never learn from our mistakes in a long while to come.

It is not blackmail. They were told that they cannot teach without Phds, so they are not teaching. Let the NUC people go and teach na. Sebi NUC members have Phds.

You only see things from your perspective probably because you are a medic. I put it to you that if you would be a little more objective with your view, you would understand that the request of nuc is not a bad one. It's definitely geared toward making the profession better.

I'm sure students will gain more from a consultant with a PhD than a consultant without one.

Fellows write a great deal of papers from their medical work.Ibadan is known for a couple of medical inventions well written and documented from research. The instituition UCH has a lot of research work acknowledged internationally to its name courtsey of these fellows...

Fellows teach the art of medicine grounded in global practice ,and empirical research. They publish and present their work globally.

The employer shall specify his terms and conditions, the employee has the right to accept the terms or go and look for work elsewhere. Government workers including doctors and all professions are lazy idiots who do not deserve a penny.

If I was the president, I will declare state of emergency in the health sector. Get rid of most of them, sanitize the system thoroughly. Hopefully I will rule this country some day and I won't tolerate this.

Doctors in the other parts of the world can design ingenious biomedical systems.
They make huge money from patents which they sell to big biomedical companies.

In Nigeria, you have a consultant of Cardiology that cannot design an artificial heart because they don't have the required doctoral training in research and innovation.

What are you teaching? Copy and paste?

So you think a student with 7 years of first degree and another 3 years of PHD is better positioned to teach students the practice of clinical medecine than a consultant with 7 years of medecine ,and 5-7 years of fellowship training which includes research work and practice in surgery?

Please know these consultants that teach all have long duration of post qualification practice experience

This is why no medical doctor in Nigeria will ever win a Nobel Prize.

The real question NUC is trying to ask is what is your practical contribution to medical science that warrant you a position to teach?

The NUC regulation is very simple, get your PhD to teach students or leave the university system and remain in your consultation room where your professional fellowships are applicable.

It is applicable to every other course of study. Why do nigerian physicians think the rules must be bent for them always?

To follow your logic, a COREN registered engineer with 20 years of experience is more capable to lecture machine design than a PhD in engineering. I don't think you know what academic as a profession mean. (No insult intended).

As an undergraduate student, I was selected to work with a lecturer of mine who was applying for doctorate on a ptdf funded project.

The project was about building a feasible reactor that can covert common sawdust to usable liquid fuel.

It was successful, and the fuel was 90% chemically and physically comparable to common diesel fuel.

That is innovation that only a doctorate will force out of you.

The project is now a property of the federal government.

Post utme was scrapped because of complains from parents and students about schools charging exorbitant fees. In the first place why should we have post utme knowing fully well that jamb has improved?.

Medical practitoners write evidence based research based in their area of practice.

Their findings and new approach are presented in conferences and journals and peer reviewed globally.

Nigeria is responsible for advances in treatment of certain tropical diseases e.g certain treatments for osteomyelitis as practiced can be traced to fellows in Nigeria who documented their triaks and results in papers.there are many other examples

Practitioners from a lot of countries have not won the nobel prize that cannot be a yardstick.

Just so you know
