With all my heart I wish so too. But the truth is that Covid is a very infectious disease - it's not deadly like ebola or malburg, but it is really easy to spread and fast too, that's what is so worrisome about the virus. And we don't know much about it too, that's why most countries are on lockdown. It's really unfair to lock down a place like Lagos because people with underlying health condition will die before the virus even gets to them.

Even if they're going to lockdown, they should make it mandatory for food sellers, pharmacy, medical home, delivery drivers to work because they're the real life savers here. And it should be compulsory to wear a mask before going outside. But I don't expect FG to give any thought to how this will affect the life of the common man. We're just like disposable animals to them.

Ebola is deadlier than Covid-19
It killed more people in Nigeria.
It's is an African disease
But all thru it there wAs no lockdown or any package for affected bizs
All these noises about Corona is cos it's a foreign disease and the foreign media is giving it maximum coverage.
If it's an African disease the foreign media won't be in a frenzy and I trust that our government too won't go this far

very decent question.
Nigerians lacks the savings culture the more reason we are always scared of losing a day without struggle.
you are wrong, most especially the poor live under 2dollar a day and you expect them to save, how if i may ask?
Re: 5 Things That Will Happen Due To Lockdown In Nigeria by Nobody: 9:26am On Mar 30, 2020
The lockdown is just to curb the spread of the disease which is the best action for now.

It's not just about it being a foreign disease, ebola also spread to other countries, but it's not as infections as corona. Any airborne virus is likely to hurt global economy, wether local or foreign. Ebola wasn't airborne, that's why it was contained, although not easily. Corona might not be as deadly as Ebola, but it is killing a lot of people in Italy and spain, only God knows why and people are afraid to have the same thing happen in thier country.

You need to add hunger and starvation to the list.

These are usual things that have been happening to Nigerians. We go survive as usual.

This lockdown is supposed to stop the spread of this virus. This would have been the case in a developed country. Where the entire country could be disinfected during the lockdown, people are provided with food and shelter etc.

But the the reverse will most likely be the case in Nigeria. Here are 5 things Nigeria will most likely achieve with the lockdown.

1) basic esentials will be on the rice.

2) more jobs will be lost

3) Nigerians will become poorer

4) crime will increase

5) more Nigerians will die from other diseases like High Blood pressure, depression, malnutrition etc due to lack of access healthcare and emergency response.

At some point violence and lawlessness will have a field day and people wont even care anymore if they are infected or not . This will lead to a wider spread.

We have continued to ignore one key aspect of essential services, which is waste management especially in Ogun state and some parts of Lagos. When you tell cart pushers to sit at home, expect diseases like Cholera, malaria, etc to invade many households. It's just a week, and many homes are already littered with wastes. People now eat more since they're on lockdown, there's no better time to incresse the capacity of waste management especially to areas with unregulated operators.

Our trigger happy policemen and soldiers should please allow cart pushers operate freely.
It will be so because people never took this serious so they didn't think ahead.
People should have bought kerosene in gallons.
It's still dry season in Nigeria.
Keep your waste outside your gate to dry a bit and burn it.
People that never had waste people visit their area do that.
Don't allow it to pile up.

Is this hard to do?
Nigerians want lots of freebies and always apportion blame everywhere except themselves.

Yea, govt isn't doing enough. Have they ever done enough before and yet people are surviving.

The only waste that is a problem to me is diaper but people can opt for cloth diapers or baby napkins.

Police is now in charge of Market now, not allowing people to buy stuffs. Is that the next. People may also die of hunger too

Do you need a prophet to tell you that the person that pushes Barrow in the market or the one that hawk, the bus driver, conductors etc will need to be on the streets to survive?
What do u suggest the government should do?
A temporal lock down is the best solution for now, let's stop the spread before our already dead health sector collapse further. We can't afford wats going on in Italy and USA happen in Nigeria.
N/b bus drivers makes more money Dan don bankers

How much can one save from 18k or 30k minimum wage in a month? That's for those that have jobs.

All these social distancing and lock down means nothing if we are not testing and isolating infected ones. Then we can go on with life with high safety guidelines especially for those within the medic and food supply chain.

It is baffling if we feel we can lock the virus down.

Social distancing means nothing without testing and isolating infected ones.
But developed countries like USA & Italy are adopting the lock down approach? If highly safety guidelines is effective, do you think Italy will shut down? Or u want our case to get to their level before we lock down?

Total lockdown comes with a price to pay by the

government to the citizens.

But at the end, it will still be the best.

If it is only some ambiguous concept of economic setback and lost jobs, then you are right. But an economic setback and lost jobs means more than just a concept. We are talking about the very real effects of these. Coronavirus on its own cannot kill millions in Nigeria, but hunger and loss of jobs can.

If not well manage it will kill billions in Nigeria!
World powers like USA are shutting down because of corona virus, u are talking about Nigeria??

These countries are on lock down but the medical and food supply chains are going on. The supermarkets are on. They have strict guidelines for it to take place. It is not just prison yard for everyone to starve to death and no medicine for babies.

This is very correct as the situation persists,Nigerians are feeling it. the greatest of it is hunger as larger percentage of our population depends on what they earn everyday. Government needs to give palliative in this regard.

The elderly are seriously exposed as their dependents are going to be indoors and struggling to get by.
These category of people are very vulnerable and the government hasn't deemed it fit to address this.

Anambra and Delta were among the earliest to announce all sorts of curfew and lockdown knowing fully well that it lacks what it takes to sustain such.

What we are rushing into lacks proper coordination which is highly required at this point.
By now, you would expect the governors to be holding meetings with each other on how to sustain an underground economy that would involve all stakeholders like the market women, bankers, essential commodity traders.

There's a lot more that should go into this that we haven't put in place. By the way, where is the rigorous testing that should be in place by now?
