Some people who spoke with TheCable said Hushpuppi was already rich enough to buy the street and turn it into an estate, but he wouldn’t.

A hotel on the street, at a time, was up for sale and Sikiru Adekoya, his close friend who was also arrested alongside Hushpuppi, was said to have called him to buy the building, but he showed no interest.

“What has all his money amounted to now that we can’t even point to one thing he did in his area?” one of the sources asked.

“The house he was born in was here on Oworo road, and now that place has been bought and turned into a car wash. I remember very well how Ramon, interestingly, used to ask people to bring their cars to the front of that house so he could wash. They paid him about N100 per car then. Just imagine if he even bought that space and turned it to a modern car wash. At least boys on the street would get more jobs from that.”

Please note. The money was never his.
Stop celebrating thieves.

Funny enough, I don't know who was richer then between him and Dangote...

U can infer. At the time he probably would've been wealthier. Dangote was doing turnover of 1.2 billion Ngn in 1986. By then Naira was starting to get weaker with SAP in place and our true position being exposed by the oil glut.

Abiola on the other hand used to handle huge forex payments with his army ppl. Mind u this should not be viewed as turnover, rather as rent/unearned profit. Lot of rent seeking so essentially free money. Put 2 and 2 together and u can estimate that he was probably wealthier.

Those contracts ran into tens of millions of usd in the short term then.

if he had given her ₦150,000 or set her up or bought her gas cookers and more equipments for cooking IT IS NOT TOO MUCH

Taking care of the people who were there for you is not too much.if he can do that for a kind food seller,I am sure he will not even buy his own mother ordinary slippers

As evident in this article, the problem Nigerians have with corruption and stealing is that the loot has not gotten to them? Many of Hushpuppi's neighbours have no issues with the source of his wealth, they are upset he was not generous with it.

Very sensible comment. I am impressed

Abiola was a cheerful giver tho. Generous and generally approachable for someone of that level.

It was just that his main source was the telco contracts, oil allocations and other forms of govt
patronage he was enjoying. So when he bit the hand that fed him it was easier to frustrate his empire.
similar to hush experience.didnt he bite the fingers that fed him?

Many people that grew up in poverty act the same way with money if they don't build wealth from scratch. One thing is certain, they must show themselves and make a lot of noise because of ingrained low self-esteem and insecurity. Money can only buy leeches. If in doubt, ask Ned Nwoko vs Nollywood artists.

undecided 15years ago (2005), I don't think cars were washed for #100.

Yeah, not in a standard cash wash, but it says in the story that Hushpuppy would ask people to bring their car to the front of his house so he could wash for 100 naira...you have to reduce price if you want people to patronize you instead of a standard cash wash.

Accidentally rich people with the mindset of poverty will still become poor because they lack the principles to sustainable wealth that is why the likes of Abiola will become so rich and his family/children will become broke.he was rich,he wasn't sustainably wealthy.so there was no how he could maintain his wealth

Check out people who become unexpectedly rich and aren't givers.they eventually go back to square 1.its an inevitable principle of wealth.

Abeg dont compare Chief Abiola with hush. Hish wasn't wealthy in the sense of the word. Designer items cost a few thousands each. If u make it a priority and have a good cash slow u can indulge.
And make it seem as tho ubare wealthy. Hush btw was just a money router for the main BEC scammers. Laundering etc.

Chief Abiola Miscalculated. He considered himself above the mischief of the army generals. Which ofc he wasn't.
