@weaseloo, I am also looking at my wife going to Houston too for delivery in the first quarter of next year. please i will need you expertise information on a lot of things am concerned and worried about.

weaseloo:

Dr. La now charges a non-refundable deposit of $150 which will eventually be deducted from your full payment. I know El Paso charges $150 as well, not sure if they make it part of your payment.
His fees like so many have mentioned already are:
$3340: $2500 doctor's charges, $445 labs, $145 initial visit, $250 ultrasound. I tried to negotiate, them no gree. I have tried to see if I can do some of the tests here in Nigeria but the prices I am getting at my hosp is more expensive so, the $445 will be going to them.

I am leaning more towards him bc I think he is expensive for a reason. Done my research on him and compared him with the other doctors at WHMC. To ice it, with the wonderful comments at the beginning of this thread about him, one of my friends used him last year and says good things about him and his services. Plus WHMC is a better location for me.

Other fees include:
WHMC vag/CS: 2500/4000
Epidural: 1200
Surg Assistant: 250
Paediatrics: 500/600
Pathology: 200/400
Hearing Test: $326
Circumcision: $325
I believe the last three can be negotiated.

I see Houston is getting more traffic nowadays bc of MIHS's change in cost. Good luck big bumps! Any January houston bound mama's that want to hook up can write me at my username at rocke t m ail. I will not accept pms.

Saving mode has been activated to give this baby the best entrance to this world grin grin

I will be happy to answer any question regarding the hospital and doctor.

I wish all expectant mums a safe delivery.

Congrat Kween2014, pls can you tell me how to get ur newborn passport and Niaja visa. Pls I will appreciate the info. Thanks

Long and insightful post. Year 2012 must have been a very interesting year for you. From your sister-in-law giving birth that year to you getting your 5year visa(btw I didn't know US embassy issues 5year visa) and then your sil returns from her birthing trip and escort you on yours and then the awful experience at POE till you finally put to bed in Oct 2012. Wow, is all I can say. Wish you a happy 'popping' for baby no 2.

Yes it was a very stressful time after the Poe experience. Since I was scared I would be put into lock. Up. My advice to everybody here is that if you get into Poe trouble plz don't lose hope and don't get scared. The officer might want to scare you and cause panic but seriously if u have paid ur bills and have been honest no need to be scared.
My sil was told that they don't care even about small babies even if they are us citizen so this time around I was even more scared that I might have horrible experience due to one American child and bad bad history so I called lawyer in the USA and asked if there is any threat to my baby if I get into trouble and he said that the most they could do is deport u n they cannot take the baby away from you. I was relaxed but still scared as u can expect anything.
Last time in 2012, I was going in a yellow cab and met an accident. Took ambulance as I was near my due date and guess what? All the services were given and I was asked for my address and later send all bills to my address. Ambulance cost 200 and radiology bills 300 and other stuff 500 so this was a pretty big shock. I got another lawyer to listen to my case and told him my issue as I was just a passenger. Well, went to police and they couldn't track both the drivers' numbers or insurances.
So please if u are misfortunate to meet accident don't take any ambulance until totally needed. I wanted to be sure my baby is ok but I didn't know it would cost 1000.

I had a csection in 2012 and I used memorial hermann southwest. It was emergency csection- I had paid 3600 for vaginal delivery to get discounted package. And ended up in emergency csection as baby was in distress.
So after I was discharged I went to financial counsellor and my bill was what?? 19800 dollars!!!! My god I screamed looking at that.
I then negotiated it and finally my total bill was 6000. I was actually hopeless but my mom told me to talk further into this as we are paying cash and after half an hour of discussing the system I got the mothers package deal of 6000. Anesthesia is 1500 dollars. My doctor was super nice and calmed my mom when she was stressed about the csection bill and offered discount of 500
Dollars.

I am expecting my baby in January 15 and I have negotiated with my doctor. 3000 inclusive and all tests done and ultrasound too. Two visits after delivery incl.
my only wish was to be very fair with my children, if one has the chance to be us citizen I should try for another one too as they both have same rights. I tried and risked my visa being revoked but thank God it went well.
I am staying at extended stay and my biggest expense is the transport. If I go somewhere like a mall or some thing I pay like 50 dollars just for cab.
Black Friday is coming up. Please all share ur shopping experience for the new babies too.

These bills are b4 the discount, after the discount mine came to $4,8 or so n child $5k, I had to negotiate for over a week but nothing was done, the billing guys even threatened me with all sort, I eventually wrote to the vice president of the hospital before they now started calling me, I eventually paid $3,433

4k to 6k is just an estimate, n they said they will stop sending it to self pay patient Pls be guided.

You don go far sef....

I am still struggling to complete their pre-registration Form online.

It seems the form is actually built for US residents only.

1- SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER- Would have skipped it but it is a compulsory field to be filled.
2- HOME PHONE- Space allocated in the field for this does not fit for international number.
3- DATE OF BIRTH- it keeps indicating this message- . "INVALID DATE OF BIRTH". I called the contact number on the website yesterday and I was told to change my browser from Safari to another but I still get same alert on Firefox and Chrome.

The thing tiya me.

With all this issues, I don't seem to figure out anyway to proceed. I don send email to them- if nothing sensible, off to Chicago be that!!

Americans write month before date (for date of birth)

So it's 12/25/1985 for 25th of dec 1985

Morning People,

I would start by saying a big thank you to all of you that have contributed...you guys have been invaluable....please dont stop being the wonderful people you guys have been. (Just know there are people like me that have learnt a lot from you people)

It looks like Gwinnett Medical have increased their prices i got this from them last night

[i]Gwinnett Medical Center does not offer package pricing for deliveries.

Prices are based on level of care and length of stay. On average, patients who experience a normal vaginal delivery and remain in our facility for 2 days incur charges from $8,000 to $10,000.

Patients who deliver by caesarian who remain in our facility for 4 days incur charges from $15,000 to $25,000.

Please note that these are estimated charges only and as previously stated, charges are based on level of care and length of stay. These prices include well baby care only and additional charges will be added if your baby is cared for in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Receiving care in our Neonatal Unit will also result in a separate bill from Gwinnett Neonatology.

Uninsured patients will be eligible for a total discount of 40% for facility fees only providing payment is posted to your account within 30 days of your discharge date.

Anesthesia will bill separately and often offer discounts if their fee is paid up front. You may contact them directly: American Anesthesiology 866-507-5244.

Physician fees are also separate. If you do not have a physician, you may contact our referral line at 678-312-5000.

Final charges are non-negotiable beyond the 40% discount that is available 30 days post discharge. Personal checks will not be accepted as a form of payment. Payments must be made by credit card or certified funds.

Does anyone have information about Southern Regional (Emory)?
