Do not conflate Fulani with Hausa. Hausa represent one of the largest ethnic groups (if not the largest) in Africa. Until the marauding invaders came from the Northeast spreading Islam through war and forced conversation.

Dangote is ethnic Hausa. And yes he became the richest black man due to government patronage starting from the 80s. In case you're not aware, he was awarded a monopoly of rice importation under IBB to feed the largest black nation on earth. Even you would become a mega-rich with that type of monopoly. And it is on record that successive governments afterwards till this day (including PDP) has favored him at the expense of the common man. Just a few weeks ago, the borders were opened exclusively for Dangote while remaining shut to other businesses. But I'm not taking anything away from his vision. Any smart businessman would have done the same thing. It's the responsibility of government to ensure a level playing field.

Yes there are good and bad ones in every tribe but the northern problem has been exacerbated by the refusal of the Northern leaders to instill a culture of education and enlightenment which will empower the people to confront issues objectively. Arabic and Islam education alone will not help your people. Rather it is a means to further repression and subjugation of the masses by the elite while they themselves (the elite) continue to live lavishly and avail themselves of all the goodness the western world has to offer.

Case in point: When Buhari took over , one would expect that he would expand and consolidate on the concept of Almajiri Schools started by the previous administration. This is something that would favour his own people. But what happened ? That initiative has been consigned to the dustbin of history. Shows you how well he (and his likes) value western education. Dr. Rilwan Lukman spent his entire career (apart from two years) working for the Nigerian Government. So we can still allude his career achievements to government connections especially considering his rapid rise from an inspector in the Ministry of Mines straight to the Chairmanship of a government owned cement company . And then it was one politIcal appointment after the another until he ended up in OPEC.

Sanusi and Amina Mohammed I both respect as those who made it in private sector before government appointments . Amina more so than Sanusi cos her prior career had an international dimension to so I would say her recognition is mostly based on merit. Sanusi is equally intelligent and highly educated (and is usually highly intellectual when he's not talking some religiously biased stuff), but how much of an impact his influential family had on his local career uptill he became First Bank CEO, I cannot say. But these are the two exciting people to listen to and I've had the privilege of listening to them in my sojourn as a banker and (later) an international development specialist.

But where are the unsung IT experts, the inventors, those who push boundaries in the fields of human endeavor such as medicine, arts, engineers etc ? Man tell yourself the truth. The world is moving on and nobody will wait for you. Your people are being left behind due to the decisions of the past. The only hope now is to continue to cling to power by any means so as to have access to easy resources for the elite to siphon and stay relevant. I employed a fulani man as a security Guard cum domestic help for my mum in Osogbo in 2013. It turned out to be a big mistake that cost a life ! The guy was given a fully furnished and well equipped two bed rooms apartment to live in with his family of six. Initially,he seemed a good guy but later started misbehaving at some points for just no reason. I noticed his cold attitudes and unfriendliness when I visited my mum sometimes in November,2014. I took a precaution immediately by instructing my nephew,who was then living with my mum, to always ensure that all doors and windows of the main house were firmly locked and secured before going to bed at night.

I received a call from my mum on the morning of 3rd December, 2014 and she informed me about how Bashir,her fulani security guard had wanted to force his way into the main house around 2.00 a m and that she later found Bruno,her Alsatian dog brutally murdered in the morning. Bashir was nowhere to be found with his family. I asked her if she had any issue with him ? She said she only warned him to stop bringing strange fellows into her compound. My mum reported the case at the community police station that morning.

When I arrived Osogbo on the 5th of December, 2014, I went straight to the fulani settlement in the community, Gaa fulani at Kobo ngbogbo e area of Osogbo. I met with their Seriki, a seemingly nice man, and I demanded that Bashir be produced or I would create a very serious problem for their community and I meant just that. I got a call from the community police station the following morning informing me that they had Bashir in their custody. I got #150 k as a compensation for the murdered dog and an undertaken, signed by the Seriki,that Bashir or any of his family members would not come within 10 radius of my mum's house.

My point is, be very careful not to offend your fulani Guard !

First, anything of glory associated to fulani is exclusive in nigeria even though their ethnic is not limited to nigeria. There is something in nigeria that makes fulani noble but is not found in any other fulani anywhere else across the sudan. Have you ever seen or head of an emirate in futa jallon or a sultanate in guinea? These are noble titles. They stole nobility from hausa. When they mount dubar and show colorful displays they are reenacting hausa and kanuri traditions of homage on horseback. It is a stolen tradition. If they deny let them show us futa jallon people in flowing colorful robes galloping on horseback, or show us guinea fulanis doing dubar.


Second, the yellow girls they show are not ethnic fulanis. These are what they call sadarckan yala. These are tuareg girls from north africa and from mauritania and so on. In the 70s these tuaregs were driven south due to war and conflicts and oil money was abundant in nigeria. Our own war had just ended. Nigeria was their choice refuge. They settled into north and intermarried. Its what created the ad mixture of light yellow skin in the north that they portray falsely as fulani. Ask them to show pictures of their women in arewa in the 60s. They will all be black and just like any other women in nigeria. If yoruba start mixing with those tuaregs, in another 20 to 30yrs there will be a new breed of yoruba children. If Igbo mix with tuaregs same will be achieved. Nothing uniques about fulani women, its the blood of tuareg thats producing yellow in them, just look at futa jallon and you will get what i mean.
