A leper is cleansed

"And it came to pass, when He was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. [13]And He put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him. [14]And He charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. [15]But so much the more went there a fame abroad of Him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. [16]And He withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed" (LUKE 5:12-16).

Yes, He Wills

TEXT: LUKE 5:12-16

"And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him" (Luke 5:13).

Some missionaries went to a certain part of India to reach the lost. Yet, a fetish man, steeped in the powers of Satan would not allow them. He threatened the missionaries hell should they carry on with their mandate. The missionaries resorted to prayers which conquered the Satan in him. One day, his wife developed a life threatening infirmity which simply refused to go, despite his evil incantations. He resorted to the same missionaries who thereafter prayed and she was instantly healed. Having tasted of God's power, he repented and thereafter became a preacher himself.

The leper in our text must have heard of the ministry of Jesus, for he knew He had power to heal him. However, he was not sure Jesus would be willing to touch him, probably because of his putrefying sores. He was ignorant of the intense love, mercy and compassion of the Lord. Being humbled by his hopeless situation, he pleaded and cried out to the Lord for help.

The response from Christ is ever so reassuring. And of course, the leprosy couldn't have remained for another second. His singular contact with Jesus was just enough to change the rest of his life for good.

That same Jesus is still there for us today whenever we turn to Him for help in our distressed, helpless state. He will never turn away those who penitently come to Him though they are compassed about with seeming hopelessness. He is a compassionate and loving Friend. Are you going through any challenge? Remember, He feels your pain and He will always be there to help you out.

Bible commentaries:

As discussed earlier, Leviticus 13-14 contains detailed laws and instructions for the ceremonial cleansing of lepers. The problem was that there was no cure for leprosy in those days, so the laws were never implemented. Naaman was miraculously healed (2 Kings 5:1-19), but he was not an Israelite, so he did not follow the prescribed procedures for cleansing. So far as the record goes, this incident is the first time ever that a cleansed leper would go to the priest in the manner prescribed by Moses. No wonder in view of the leprosy and unbelief common in the priesthood of the time, that Christ said this would be "for a testimony unto them."

Bible fascinating facts:

If down through the ages, scriptural principles had been applied during epidemics such as the Black Plague, millions of lives would have been saved. Long before man understood the principles of quarantine, the Bible spoke of the importance of isolating those who had a contagious disease and of disinfecting their houses.

The Infinite Wisdom and Knowledge of God
August 3, 2016

"In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" (Colossians 2:3)

One of the most amazing of the divine attributes is God's omniscience. He not only understands all the complexities of relativistic science and higher mathematics, He ordained them in the first place! The same applies to every other discipline of study and activity.

And He knows all about each of us! "O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off" (Psalm 139:1-2).

As far as human knowledge is concerned, it is vital to know that "the fear of the LORD" is the very foundation of "knowledge" and of "wisdom" (Proverbs 1:7; 9:10). All the greatest scientists of the past acknowledged that they were seeking merely to "think God's thoughts after Him."

How foolish it is to ignore or to oppose God! There are only four places in the Bible that speak of God laughing (Psalm 2:4; 37:13; 59:8; Proverbs 1:26), and each of them describes His response to such folly.

Instead, we should marvel at all the wonders of His creation and providence. "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!" (Romans 11:33).

Our text verse above (Colossians 2:3) is actually referring explicitly to the Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten and eternal Son of God. It is He who has given us access to the Creator God and therefore access to the divine knowledge and understanding. Part of the still-effective dominion mandate (Genesis 1:26, 28) is to learn what we can about God's creation, always remembering that Jesus insisted that—no matter what unbelievers say—"the scripture cannot be broken" (John 10:35). Treasures of the Snow
August 6, 2016

"Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail?" (Job 38:22)

It is interesting that this book, the oldest in the Bible, contains more references to snow, ice, and frost than any other book of the Bible. This is despite the fact that Job's homeland was in what is now essentially a desert region. Possibly the effects of the post-Flood Ice Age were still strong in Job's day.

In any case, the beautiful phrase "treasures of the snow" is both appropriate and prophetic. Its crystal structure, though mostly in the form of delicate six-pointed "stars," is endlessly varied and always intricately symmetrical and incredibly beautiful.

The snow is a treasure in other ways as well. The winter's snowpack in the mountains is often called "white gold" because of its indispensable water storage capacity, released in the melting season each spring to provide life to teeming cities and irrigation in the desert for needed food supplies. The snow also aids in maintaining the planet's chemical cycles by returning various elements in the nuclei of its flakes back from the ocean to the lands from which they were leached and transported by rivers to the oceans. When the snowpack becomes a glacier, it can greatly assist in the breakup of rocks to form fertile soils.

In the Scriptures, its pure white colour is often used to symbolise the cleansing of a sinful heart that trusts the Lord. "Wash me," said David, "and I shall be whiter than snow" (Psalm 51:7). "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow," the Lord promises those who come to Him for salvation (Isaiah 1:18).

As the snow comes down from heaven, so comes the Word of God to ask the soul as in today's text: "Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow?" (Job 38:22). HMM.

Treasures of the Snow:

Job 38:22 (written 3,500 years ago). God says: "Have you entered into the treasures of the snow?"

It wasn't until the advent of the microscope that man discovered that each and every single snowflake is uniquely a symmetrical "treasure."

The Global Flood
August 9, 2016

"And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth" (Genesis 6:13)

Among those who insist that the Flood described in Genesis cannot be actual history, two reasons stand out more than all others. First, naturalism demands a gradual development of everything over "deep time" from simple to complex. Thus, the worldwide deposit of billions of fossils could not have been rapidly buried by a global cataclysm as described in the Bible.

Second, those who might otherwise accept the message of the Bible are appalled by the sudden and horrific destruction of the planet by a "loving" God. Thus, the Flood must be a localised or tranquil event rather than the wrathful judgment described in Genesis. Many who embrace this kind of thinking insist that "my kind of God" could never do such a thing.

The first rationalisation insists that "all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation" (2 Peter 3:4) and that the Bible must be understood in the light of evolutionary naturalism. The second rationalisation ignores the holiness of God (Isaiah 5:16) and would also ignore the clear biblical teaching that godless rebellion brings the "wrath of God upon the children of disobedience" (Ephesians 5:6).

The first deny the evidence in the earth. The second deny the evidence in the Word. The first group rejects the facts of science. The second group distorts the facts of Scripture. Both change "the truth of God into a lie" (Romans 1:25) and fall into the "way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Proverbs 16:25). HMM III

Lets start from the science practised ages ago and the claim of the Bible from 3 to 4,000 years ago. Science then said that the earth was a flat disk. The Bible said the earth is a sphere (Isaiah 40:22). When scientists updated their facts today what did they get? The earth is a sphere.

Isaiah 40:21-22.

Error detected: the earth has no foundation
Vs 22: It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth

When it says the circle of the earth in Hebrew it means "khug" and this is translated as Compassed" in Job 26:10 and "Compass" in Proverbs 8:27.  All 3, when read in context, clearly refer to the spherical shape of the earth.

The Behemoth
August 11, 2016

"Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. . . . He is the chief of the ways of God" (Job 40:15, 19)

Whatever this animal was, it was not small! The Hebrew word has merely been transliterated rather than translated. Some Bible margins suggest that the writer of the book really meant elephant or that the Hebrew word is derived from the Egyptian term for hippopotamus.

But the description given by God Himself does not illustrate an animal that you and I would be familiar with. Look carefully at God's narrative in Job 40:15-24.

Behemoth is a land animal whose normal habitat is in wetlands.
The creature is a vegetarian, with grazing habits similar to an ox.
This animal is very large, with strong hips and power in the stomach muscles.
When the tail moves, it is like a cedar tree.
The bones are like "strong pieces of brass," and the ribs are like "bars of iron."
Behemoth is so large and so placid a beast that a raging river or an attempt to pierce its nose does not rile it.
God names behemoth the "chief of the ways of God."

This information is passed on to us by God Himself. Job needs to understand how small and insignificant he really is when compared to the majestic wild creatures on the one hand and the omniscient and omnipotent Creator on the other.

No wonder Job concludes: "I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes" (Job 42:5-6). HMM III

Questioning God
August 14, 2016

"Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?" (Romans 9:20)

Whenever one begins a question with "why," he should realise that the answer must necessarily be theological, not scientific. Science can deal with the questions of "what" and "how," sometimes even with "where" and "when," but never with "why"! The "why" questions have to do with motives and purposes, even when dealing with natural phenomena. (“Why does the earth rotate on its axis?" "Why do we have mosquitoes?”) Even though we can partially explain such things by secondary causes, we finally encounter a "first cause," and then the "why?" can be answered only by God.

The wise thing to do is simply to believe that He has good reasons for everything, whether we can discern them now or not. "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" (Genesis 18:25). God the Creator "worketh all things after the counsel of his own will" (Ephesians 1:11), and it is our high privilege simply to trust Him, not to question Him.

On the other hand, He often asks us: "Why?" "Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?" Jesus asked His disciples when they thought they were in great peril (Matthew 8:26). "If I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?" (John 8:46), He would say to those who question His Word.

Then, to those who doubt His deity, the apostle Paul, speaking in His name, asks: "Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead?" (Acts 26:8.) As the popular chorus goes: "God specialises in things thought impossible!" Our God is omniscient and knows what's best; He is omnipotent, so He can do it. He is all-loving and will surely do what's best for those who trust Him. HMM

Do you think it is ridiculous? undecided

The Unknown Creator

"He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not" (John 1:10)

This verse is surely one of the saddest, most poignant verses in all the word of God. In the Lord Jesus Christ, our Creator/Redeemer, "we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28). The atoms of our bodies are sustained by Him, (Colossians 1:17), yet multitudes ignore Him, ridicule Him, and take His name in vain. What presumption! What foolishness!

Once He even entered visibly into the world He had created so that people actually could hear His words of life and see His works of love. But they wilfully refused to acknowledge Him, and then hung Him on a cross to die.

The height of irony and the depth of foolishness are reached when those whose very minds and bodies were created by Christ refuse even to admit the fact of creation. In effect, they turn Psalm 100:3 upside down and claim: "It is not He that hath made us—it is we ourselves!" Not only do modern men deny His creation, they also reject His salvation, thinking they can save themselves.

It is important to note that John 1:10 specifically refers to the refusal of the "world" to know Him as its Creator. It was made by Him, but would not acknowledge His work of creation. How then could the world ever "receive" Him as its Saviour (v.11)? Only its Creator could ever become its Saviour, since no one else in all creation was both deserving and capable of such a mission.

Even more inexcusable than those who rejected Him when He was here in the world are those who reject Him today. With all the marvellous evidences of creative design in nature as revealed by modern science, plus the unanswerable evidences of His own bodily resurrection from the dead, it is wicked foolishness for modern men and women still to reject Him as their Creator and Saviour. The Triune Universe
August 18, 2016

"For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him" (Colossians 1:16)

The "things" God made are nothing more or less than our universe. That created reality is the only valid illustration of the triunity that expresses the nature of our Creator. Space is both invisible and at the same time the matrix in which all of our reality exists. "No man hath seen God at any time" (1 John 4:12). "For in him we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28).

Matter is the visible and tangible revelation of the existence of space. We "see" space by means of the visible phenomena of energy arranged in molecular structures that are functioning, predictably, over time as matter that we can see, feel, and use. God the Son is the Word (John 1:14) who makes it possible for us to "see" God.

The Holy Spirit is the "time" of the triune Godhead. It is He who brings about a relationship with God. It is the Holy Spirit who actually executes the creation of the new birth (1 Corinthians 6:11; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 4:24). The Holy Spirit is the One who imparts the spiritual gifts of God to the believers (1 Corinthians 12:8 ). And just like time, all we ever "see" or "sense" about the Holy Spirit is the result of what has been done.

The physical universe is, in a very real sense, a trinity of trinities. In fact, tri-unity in various ways is often seen in the creation. Although no man could ever model the Godhead, God has "clearly" done this in His creation (Romans 1:20). HMM III

The Unique Earth
August 27, 2016

"The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD's: but the earth hath he given to the children of men" (Psalm 115:16)

Secularists like to consider Earth as just one among many millions of planets, occupying an obscure place in an insignificant galaxy in a sea of nothingness. The Bible teaches, however, that Earth is very special to the Creator, performing a crucial role in the universe today and playing an unending role in the cosmic saga.

Earth is the only planet circling our sun on which life as we know it could (and does) exist. Other known planets are either "gas balls" or are covered with lifeless soil or frozen chemicals. From the apex of the atmosphere to the bottom of the oceans, from the coldest part of the poles to the warmest part of the equator, life thrives here. To this day, no evidence of life has been found on any other planet.

If the earth traveled much faster in its 584-million-mile journey around the sun, its orbit would become larger and it would move farther away from the sun. If it moved too far from this narrow habitable zone, all life would cease to exist. If it traveled slightly slower, the earth would move closer to the sun, and if it moved too close, all life would likewise perish.

The chances of a planet being just the right size, the proper distance away from the right star, etc., are extremely minute. The mathematical odds that all of these and other essential conditions happened by chance are astronomical—something like billions to one!

"I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me" (Jeremiah 27:5). HMM III

Historical Accuracy
August 28, 2016

"God that made the world and all things therein . . . hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation" (Acts 17:24, 26)

The biblical record is full of testable historical and archaeological data, unlike the sacred texts of other religions. Wherever such historical information is cited, the data have proven to be precise and trustworthy. It has been subjected to the minutest scientific textual analysis possible to humanity and has been proven to be authentic in every way.

The Bible has been a significant source book for secular archaeology, helping to identify such ancient figures as Sargon (Isaiah 20:1), Sennacherib (Isaiah 37:37), Horam of Gezer (Joshua 10:33), Hazar (Joshua 15:27), and the nation of the Hittites (Genesis 15:20). The biblical record, unlike other "scriptures," is historically set, opening itself up for testing and verification. Nineteenth-century critics used to deny the historicity of the Hittites, the Horites, the Edomites, and various other peoples, nations, and cities mentioned in the Bible. Few critics question the geographical and ethnological reliability of the Bible today.

The names of over 40 kings of various countries mentioned in the Bible have all been found in contemporary documents and inscriptions outside of the Old Testament, and are consistent with the times and places associated with them in the Bible. Nothing exists in ancient literature that has been even remotely as well confirmed in historical accuracy as has the Bible.

"Every word of God is pure. . . . Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar" (Proverbs 30:5-6). HMM III

OLAADEGBU:
This thread is to highlight how science confirms the Bible and not the other way round. It is science that had to keep updating itself to conform with the truth of the Bible which is inerrant and infallible.

Modern Science in an Ancient Book
by Henry Morris, Ph.D.

"Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this?" (Job 12:9).

The book of Job is one of the oldest books in the world, yet it contains numerous references to natural systems and phenomena, some involving facts of science not discovered by scientists until recent centuries, yet recorded in Job almost 4,000 years ago.

A good example is in 26:7. "He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing."  While ancient mythologies may imagine the earth to be carried on the shoulders of Atlas or on the back of a giant turtle, Job correctly noted that it is suspended in space.  The force of "gravity" is still not understood, and it is quite reasonable to believe that God Himself holds it in the assigned place in His creation.

There is a reference to the rotation of the earth in 38:14. "It is turned as clay to the seal."  This speaks of the smooth turning of the globe to receive the sun's daily illumination.

"The springs of the sea" are mentioned in 38:16, even though it has only been discovered in recent decades that there are springs of water emerging from certain parts of the deep ocean floor.  The fact that mountains have "roots," consisting of rocks of the same nature and density as the mountains themselves, is noted in 28:9.

The infinite extent of the stellar heavens, contradicting the ancient pagan notion of a vaulted sky with stars affixed to a sort of hemispherical dome, is suggested in 22:12. "Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!" (see also Isaiah 55:9, etc.).

There are many other scientific insights in this remarkable book and no scientific errors.  The logical conclusion, as our text says, is that "the hand of the Lord hath wrought this." HMM
This thread makes me laugh. The depths theist are willing to go. saying science had to keep updating itself to conform with the bible. And that the infallible, let me shatter that view easily.
1. The story of Jonah being swallowed hole by a whale is impossible as science will prove to you. A blue whale's oesophagus or gullet is a mere 4 inches or 10 cm in diameter, so it would have problems swallowing a whole grapefruit, and the ones that can, would probably have grinded him with their sharp teeth, and even if miraculously they didn't, he would die of lack of oxygen, besides being digested in their stomachs.
2. when satan showed Jesus all the wonders of the world from a mountain to tempt him : this is impossible as we know today since the earth is spherical and even at the top of mount Everest you can only see 200 meters in front of you and we know from historical facts that Satan would most likely be pointing at India and China since they were prosperous nations then, but 2000 years ago everyone thought the earth was flat hence the writer of the bible did so too, why would an omniscient God not know this simple fact if he inspired the bible. And for those that would say it was spiritual and not a physical journey. Then why would Satan ask Jesus to jump so angels can save him.

Yes.  Joshua ordered the Sun "stay put" and the earth stopped rotating until the battle was won.  Do you use the phrase sunrise and sunset?  Why is this phrase written in modern dictionaries today?  When used does it mean that the sun literally rises and sets?  Do you now see how our point of reference determines how we discuss what we see?

You need to update your scientific knowledge because it seems you are still living in the dark ages.  Do a google search on the flat earth and see what you will come up with.  It is not good to feed yourself on a diet of hearsays and pub talks.  The Bible for more than 3,000 years ago has stated that the earth is sphere (Isaiah 40:22) and went as far as saying that it rotates on its axis (Job 38:14) to receive the sun's illumination.  Science is still playing catch-up with the revelations in the Bible.

All your claims above is a classic example of alleged factual contradictions which are all fallacious.
LMAO He says the earth stayed put. Do you know what would happen if the earth stopped rotating? I bet you don't. Everything on earth would be rampaged by wind speeds of up to 300 km wiping everything on earth, so Joshua would be unable to finish his battle because he would be too busy being dead.

Biblical Clarity
August 31, 2016

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments" (Psalm 111:10)

The Bible insists that the God of the Bible is the only true God (Isaiah 44:6; 45:5-6) and that Jesus Christ is the only way to God (John 14:6). All other religions, while stressing their "paths," would allow for some other contingency. The biblical record is very precise: Adam's sin introduced death into the world (Romans 5:12) and a curse pronounced on all creation (Genesis 3:14-19).

Actually, it's pretty simple. Adam and Eve refused to believe that God was telling them the truth and died because of their rebellion. God still loved them and all the people who would come into the world through them, so He provided the only solution possible: He gave Himself to solve the problem.

The Lord Jesus took our own form and nature, lived our life, was subject to every kind of temptation and problem humans could ever face (Hebrews 4:15), willingly accepted unjust condemnation and death for our sakes (1 Peter 2:24)—and then, to prove that He was really God in the flesh (Acts 17:31), came back again from death (after paying our "wages," Romans 6:23) as the resurrected Lord.

Now He sits in heaven as the Advocate (defending lawyer) on our behalf, acting as the eternal High Priest interceding for us, all the time preparing a place for us to live with Him forever. One day He—that same Jesus who died for us and rose again from the grave—will come to Earth again as King of kings and Lord of lords to end the rule of the Enemy and make a "new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness " (2 Peter 3:13)!

The article below addresses your objection and I will be dealing with your second objection at a more convenient date.

Did Jonah Really Get Swallowed by a Whale
by John D. Morris, Ph.D.

Skeptics ridicule many portions of Scripture and let's face it—some of them are difficult to believe. Certainly one that has received a major dose of such ridicule deals with Jonah and the whale (or great fish). How could a whale or fish swallow a man whole? How could a man survive in such an environment for any length of time? As always, there are answers to the questions if we are willing to study and believe.

First, let me say that the historicity of this account is vital to the Christian. Believing it is not an option, for Jesus Christ Himself believed it and made it a model for the doctrine of His resurrection. "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth (Matthew 12:40).

What kind of animal swallowed Jonah? In the passage above, the Greek word translated "whale" actually means a huge fish or sea monster. In the passage in Jonah (1:17; 2:1,10), the Hebrew word was the normal word for "fish," but here the word is modified by the word great. Our modern taxonomic system places whales among the mammals, sharks, among the fish and plesiosaurs among the reptiles, but, the Bible uses a different system. "All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds." (I Corinthians 15:39).

Evidently any living thing other than the creeping things (Psalm 104:25) in the seas is placed in the category of "fishes". In addition, there are several species of whale and of sharks alive today with gullets large enough to swallow a man whole. Among extinct animals like the plesiosaurs, the same could be said, and perhaps this was a heretofore unknown fish of large size. The point is, the story is not impossible. However, most importantly, the Bible says that "the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah" (Jonah 1:17). Clearly this event was miraculous and not a naturalistic phenomenon. Thus we don’t have to give it an explanation limited by modern experience or knowledge.

Could a man survive in a fish's belly? The Hebrew idiom "three days and three nights" has been clearly shown both from Scripture and other sources to mean a period of time beginning on one day and ending on the day after the one following. It doesn't necessarily mean three full days and nights.

Furthermore, there have been several reported cases of modern sailors or other individuals swallowed by such an animal, only to be recovered many hours later.

But again, this story involves the miraculous. It may be that Jonah actually died and was resurrected by God. This is implied in his description of his experience especially Jonah 2:2. Of course, resurrection is "impossible" but it clearly happened on several occasions in Scripture requiring miraculous input. To deny the possibility of miracles, especially those miracles specifically mentioned in Scripture, is to deny the existence of God, and this is not an option for a Christian.

The point is nothing about the story is totally impossible: There are "fish" large enough to swallow a man; men have been known to survive inside a "fish"; the Bible says it really happened; Christ said Jonah's experience was an analogy of His own death and resurrection; and God is alive and capable of this feat. The Atheist Delusion Movie (2016) HD

Published on 22 Oct 2016
Having to prove the existence of God to an atheist is like having to prove the existence of the sun, at noon on a clear day. Yet millions are embracing the foolishness of atheism. "The Atheist Delusion" pulls back the curtain and reveals what is going on in the mind of those who deny the obvious. It introduces you to a number of atheists who you will follow as they go where the evidence leads, find a roadblock, and enter into a place of honesty that is rarely seen on film.

The Counting God
November 2, 2016

"Doth not He see my ways, and count all my steps?" (Job 31:4).

God is surely the Great Mathematician. All the intricacies of structure and process of His mighty cosmos are, at least in principle, capable of being described mathematically, and the goal of science is to do just that. This precise intelligibility of the universe clearly points to a marvelous intelligence as its Creator.

God even "telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names" (Psalm 147:4). Astronomers estimate that at least 10 trillion trillion stars exist in the heavens, and God has counted and identified each one! And that is not all: "The very hairs of your head are all numbered," Jesus said (Matthew 10:30). From the most massive star to the tiniest hair, God has counted each component of His creation.

Such countings are far beyond human capabilities, for "the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured" (Jeremiah 33:22). But God has also created "an innumerable company of angels" (Hebrews 12:22) and has promised that the redeemed will include "a great multitude, which no man could number" (Revelation 7:9).

No wonder David exclaimed, "Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered" (Psalm 40:5).

Perhaps the most wonderful of all God's counting activities is that implied in Job's rhetorical question: "Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?" If He has numbered the hairs on our heads, we can be certain He numbers our steps along the way, and guides them all. "The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way" (Psalm 37:23). HMM
