THE presidential campaign council of President Goodluck Jonathan, on Thursday, described the excuses given by the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Major-General Muhammmadu Buhari (retd), for the cancellation of the Lagos Metroline Project as scandalous and a slap on the face of the Lagos people.

The campaign council, in a statement by its media department, said it was scandalous that Buhari had suddenly found voice to defend the inexplicable error, more than 30 years after he committed the crime.

The council also said Buhari’s excuses amounted to contempt for the people of Lagos, who daily suffered the traffic gridlock on the roads.

“After almost 30 years of silence, Major-General Buhari has finally found his voice and provided a specious political excuse for his disastrous cancellation of the Lagos metro line project.

“While speaking with his political associates in Lagos, Buhari explained that the project was cancelled because his government did not want to take more loans or devalue the naira.

“It is interesting that Buhari has found his voice now, when the presidential election is days away, after showing contempt and disdain for the people of Lagos and, indeed, Nigerians, by refusing to provide any explanation for the numerous acts of wickedness and high-handedness of the military dictatorship he led.

“Sadly though, Major-General Buhari is all too economical with the facts. His spokesman, Mr Yinka Odumakin, told Saturday Punch a few weeks ago that Buhari knew nothing about the cancellation and that it was the late Gbolahan Mudashiru who unilaterally cancelled the contract. But today, Buhari has categorically repudiated Mr Odumakin’s poorly concocted lies. But was Buhari himself telling the whole truth?

“We wish to state, however, that Buhari is just trying to score cheap political points and is being clever-by-half when he said the project was terminated because of financing issues.

“Firstly, the project which was initiated by the administration of “Alhaji Lateef Jakande, was going on smoothly and on schedule before the coup-d’état by General Buhari. The project would, no doubt, have been completed on time if not for General Buhari’s coup and the transportation nightmare Lagosians face today would not have existed.

“The visionary Jakande administration had concluded all the plans to finance the project, putting everything in place for its successful execution. The government had secured a $450 million loan at six per cent fixed interest rate for 25 years. As at the time the project was cancelled, the government had paid parts of the loan and, therefore, had no worry about financing the project,”the statement read.

The council said the cancellation of the Lagos metro line project by Buhari was shortsighted and immoral, adding that the people of Lagos and, indeed, Nigeria would not be fooled by cheap political moves to win votes.

The road will be surely be handled well. There should not be lame excuses of "the roads are too many. We don't have money for all the roads." And stuffs like that.

The goverment should make a good plan and do the most important roads first. No unaccetable excuses.

The lagos they once hated&promised 2make ungovernable(witholding it funds, refusing to av anytin to do wit developing it,sent ogunlewe, bode george and obanikoro to cause mayhem).Fashola has done more roads in one yr than PDP has done in 12yrs.
Buhari had given lame dumb excuses bt what excuse has GEJ&PDP given 4 16billion dollars power fund,11 billion dollars ext reserve in a yr,rising inflation rate, rise in fuel prices of over 600% within 12yrs,massive corruption of GEj&his allies ibori, igbinedion, uduaghan, odili, alams, bode george, dariye, dame jonathan to mention just few, rise in inflation, drop in value of naira, rise in govt expenditure&flagrant abuse of court processes&yesterdays shameful gift of 200k,samsung fone&gift pack to jornalist in abuja.

The time is too short to assess jonathan bt its nt short 2milk d nation dry, posterity wil never 4giv them 4putting pain on generations yet unborn.

If wat they are doing is good may God bless them bt if otherwise may God punish them&their nairaland supporters.

OH MY WORD! This is a classical case of kettle calling pot black! Granted Buhari cancelled a project but which is worst? PDP that has embazzled Billions and starve lagos of the much needed infrastructure renewal.

Now I am more than convinced that Jonathan is a fraud! A man who can not control his campaign organisatio, is it such a man that we will seek to govern Nigeria? No wonder all we have seen in the last 1year is all Vibration no acceleration by his crooked government. If not for the brains of the CBN governor, we would have been in a situation like Zimbabwe currently is!

God forbid I cast a vote for PDP! oh did Jonathan the deceiver not tell us we will get stable power by April 2011? How many people can confirm that is the case where they live 'cos its all generators blasting where I am currently!

What Nigerians should do with their votes tomorrow is to massively vote for candidates of other parties other than the PDP. This would be very crucial for the National Assembly elections in order to discontinue the one-party monopoly of the PDP in the top arms of the government.
This will increase the probability of having members of different parties as leaders in the senate and house of reps,
But please, we should vote for credible and competent candidates.

How long does it take to biuld a metroline?

Assuming the metroline project (proposed) was canceled by Buhari in 1985, has PDP built one or even started one in the last 12 years of massive looting?

is that why we should vote PDP?

the Lagos-Benin road was it Buhari that cancel it?

the proposed west-east coastal road concieved by PDP in 2000 was it Buhari that cancelled it?

The project for Dredging of the Niger River that was awarded by late President yaradua, paid and commissioned in 2008, was it Buhari that cancelled it?

Please say something plausible or hold your peace.
