Hajia Hajara Usman Baba, President of the Police Officers Wives Association and wife of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has decried the proliferation of beer parlours in police barracks, describing it as a bad influence on children and the future of Nigeria.

She stated that she would immediately send a signal to the Force headquarters for the outright relocation of beer parlours from police barracks, threatening that whoever flouted the directive thereafter, would be ejected from the barracks.

The POWA President was on a three-day working visit to familiarise herself with POWA members in the state and also to access the Police children school, to improve the general standards.

She noted that beer parlours should be located at a given distance from the barracks as stipulated by law.

Addressing POWA members at the POWA hall, Ikeja, Hajara said, “During my inspection yesterday (Wednesday) I saw a lot of beer parlours in barracks. I know it is you people that encouraged such. You should try and speak to your husbands to follow the rules and regulations of the barracks.

“I grew up in the barracks because my father was a policeman. Then, there was no beer parlour. And with the future of our children in the barracks, we should be careful because these children are more intelligent than us.

“We are going to send signals immediately, for the relocation of the beer parlours. If you don’t keep to it, you will be ejected out of the Barracks.”

She also lamented the dirty state of barracks in Lagos and announced the commencement of environmental sanitation, every Saturday. She informed that she would personally take part in the next one, after taking a 30-minute walk with POWA members, as part of activities to mark her visit.

She said, “What I saw at the barracks was devastating. The barracks were unkempt. It was very dirty. If there is no sanitation nationwide, can’t you sanitise yourself, or don’t we have barracks leaders? There is going to be sanitation henceforth. It is going to be a continuous exercise until we are retired.”

Noting that policemen had been demoralised due to happenings in the country, she admonished POWA members and other wives of policemen to be supportive at this moment, by being submissive to their spouses, adding that this was not the time to nag at home, as such would go a long way to affect their husbands’ efficiency at work.

Everybody flexing muscles and giving directives as if they are the President.

What right does she have to determine how ,and where people will do their businesses?

Breweries pay tax,and have right to operate as desires. Beer is not a contraband goods,so how can ordinary police igp wife issue directives with threats.

This people are something else.

You can't ban beer parlors. Those people are adults and alcohol is a form of relaxation after work.

You can only regulate it,

Islam trying so hard to infiltrate into a "Secular" state like Nigeria. This was how they tricked Hausas with Islam and now the Fulanis have taken over all their lands and installed emirs. Very soon, we would be forced to learn Arabic.

The question is what authority does an igp wife has to decide what happens in police barracks.

Police officers wife association is just an owambe to keep their wives busy

This northern Terrorists over bearing attitude is getting out of hand, i don't know the hypocritic obsession they have with beer when their children can't eat one square meal a day

The ₦50 bribe policemen collect are a bigger immoral influence on their children

They must be feeling the effects on the family.

But why not simply ban Alcohol in your personal homes while allowing others to determine how they handle their lives, Anty Hajara?

if you had an IQ to start with you would question whether the igp wife was the one appointed by the president to issue orders that partains to police under the office of the igp

What does an HAIJA Islamic views have to do with secular police

If you had iq you would remember that beer is a legal drink in this country that should be taken by supposed adults which the policeman fall under

If you had iq you would rather be concerned about the weed that isn't legalized but taken by policemen in the open

grin grin I support her but she really needs to encourage the current IGP to lose some weight, having an obese IGP is not a good way to motivate his subordinates.

Madam you want us to believe that you are just coming to the realization of the filth. You have been part of the system for over 30 yrs. Police barracks have been know for Filth. Environmental sanitation is a welcome idea but it's a normal occurrence in most barracks . Former president Jonathan complained about it. The issues is more of an institutionalize stuff. Low funding ,poor accommodation facilities.old buildings that are unhabitable, etc.
On the issue of eviction ,I don't think the IG's wife have such powers . Even speaking of sending signal.Thats not possible. What she can do is speak to her husband or appropriate authorities to look into such matters as it affects the entire police workforce. The beauty about it is that she is sincere ,and willing to do something about it.if the authorities would go along with her plan ,we might start seeing some cosmetic changes in the barracks. Also regarding the beer parlours she is right. The indiscriminate sales of such in not helping the children. Such are meant to be sold inside the mammy markets not around living or work areas within the barracks. Kudos to her, hope her efforts pays off.

It's not an Islamic issue guy. There are stutues on sale of alcohol with military or para military facilities. There are rules hovering the sales and intake within such facilities.
They are standard

Shea right about the bad sanitation culture in the police barrack...

But you still need to inform the federal government to build new structure for the policemen.

Most times I always pity them when I see their barracks

Who is She sef, to be banning alcohol in barracks?
Is he a Govt official or is she not just ordinary kitchen appendage of IGP?

The Barracks is a 'community" in itself and she cannot ban the sale of Alcohol there afterral, there is no Sharia in the Barracks.
All these Women that just arrogate power to themselves, once their Husband is occupying a position.
What a Policeman does in his spare, off-duty time is of a lesser concern.

Infact, l will prefer he drinks beer in the Barracks when he is off-duty, than to be on duty, holding an AK47 and be drinking Beer or Smoking Weed, as we have seen most of them doing.

Bunch of !mbeciles, anyone of them caught intoxicated while on duty, should be summarily dismissed.

This is very commendable! Those officers drink a lot.

Considering this is a Muslim country, officers shouldn’t drink alcohol cos it’s against the teachings of Islam. God bless u ma’am
