damilola15: Hello good people, here's one that giving me headache: Officially certified copy of WAEC certificate. I need to send it to the school. Please how have you been going by this.

I somehow found myself at Ibadan, so used that opportunity to go to the waec office there. I was asked to go to the state I where I sat for the exams. I couldn't, it's far from Ibadan and I was on my way to Lagos anyway. Meanwhile I had been to a local court where I was told they stopped doing that about 3 years ago, even said I should go to my school.

This is the closest to it I've read on waec's website. That's not even what I want to do.
Your statements are not clear. Do you want a certified copy of your original certificate or a confirmation of your results?
Based on your reference to a court, I assume you are referring to 'certification' of result and my answer will be addressed towards that.
Since you are in Lagos, Take the ORIGINAL + photocopies (depending on the number of copies you want certified) of your WAEC results with any other documents ( Original + photocopy) you want to certify to Ikeja High Court (the one am 100% sure of) and you could try nearby magistrate courts too.
I believe the German embassy also renders the service free. However, at Ikeja High court, its N200.00/copy. make sure you are there before 11:30, because I think they close 12 and anything beyond that may require your payments of a 'fine' or 'overtime charges'.
I hope you find this useful.
Good luck!

why do it at abuja? If you v been following this thread which i blv u do, i don't see the reason why you should do it in abuja. Had it been u did it in Lagos, you wud be given a slip which u can use to apply for interview while you wait for the account details which will come maybe in 3 weeks time.
The only option i think you have now is to wait till the account detail is sent to you. Btw, hope you didnt send the form via NIPOST ooo

The school is an OK school. They have a good number of international students; While Cottbus (pronounced ‘Kotboos’) is a major transportation town in the former East Germany with some number of industries. The city is very close to the polish borders but relatively isolated from any German city. The other major cities in the area, Dresden, Potsdam, Leipzig and Berlin are all 1 hour ride (less using ICE trains) away. They have a population of about 100-105k. If you think that German is the only language you will hear or read, then bros think twice, Sorbs (an indigenous ethnic minority) language is also officially recognized and spoken.
Before I will go into details about survival, you should note that Cottbus is in the former East and the economic situation is inferior to what is obtainable in the west. The east and west just became one country after the unification of 1990 after being under a different system of government for over four and half decades (capitalism in the west and socialism in the east). At unification, the situation in the east was a sharp contrast to situations in the west and things became worse even immediately after unification due to reasons too numerous to mention here. However, 24 years after, the east is still playing catch up (although the situation has improved markedly). Currently the wages in the east is about 70-75% lower than in the west and unemployment in many places stands at about 10-11% as against 6% nationally.
On the good side, things like food, rent and many other commodities are relatively cheap compared to the west. I heard that if you can tie down a job, as a Naija guy, you shouldn’t bother about survival. You could even save more than someone in the exorbitant Munich. However, language is a very big advantage here in the east because English speakers are much less.
On racism, I heard that apart from people looking sheepishly and wondering how you painted your skin black and what planet you are from (there are relatively less foreigners in the east), racism is not too common in Cottbus as against what is generally perceived about the Ossis (Easterners), however, don’t go around looking for one because you shall surely find.
Others can help throw more light into the issue as I too will be glad to learn more.
I hope you find this useful.
Good luck!

Sorry, I will like to rephrase slightly on my comments about your school earlier. BTU Cottbus doesn't doesn't maintain the position which I earlier purported as I had another in mind. BTU Cottbus is a relatively new school (1991), and relatively small too but their reputation for having a high percentage of international student is very true.
Am sorry for the earlier mistake. Are u going for MSC or Bsc. cos I heard finding an internship in Cottbus because of its size and location could be challenging except you go to Berlin. Every other statement is very true.
Sorry once again.
Good luck!

if you are sponsoring urself, its better to say u are being sponsored by ur family or parents (provided they are not 'late')
yapyap: if you are sponsoring yourself will it be good to tell the consulate so?

Has he transfered the required fund? Or did he use a sponsorship letter?
In any case, one month is well within the waiting time.

Thanks for your commendations. I agree with emerald that you could use check for yourself too. I personally do not know much about Schleswig Holstein apart from a little bit of Kiel and more on Hamburg (that's a good place to start)
I don't like making comments about how bad a school really is, because I've learnt to tread carefully when addressing that aspect. From what i gathered, Fachhochschule Lübeck FHL is a relatively small school and new, about 10 years (ranked between 160-190 in Germany). You can check out their standings on daad or che rankings (officially recognised in Germany) for the performance of your specific course in relation to other schools in Germany.
From the info I was able to gather the city is small (about 210k population), fairly good, nice ports, industries sprinkled around. The foreigners there love it.
There is a train route straight to Hamburg from Lübeck. It shouldn't be up to 20 minutes away (safe estimate) as Hamburg is about 25 miles away. Hamburg is a very big commercial and industrial metropolis in that region (1.7 million people).
There are good reviews on the city. Some members in Hamburg can throw in more light on life there
You shouldn't have problem getting Jobs from what I gathered.
I hope you find this helpful.
Good luck!

MY EXPERINCE OPENING BLOCKED ACCOUNT WITH DB @ GERMAN EMBASSY, ABUJA. 1)Abuja offers consular services only on thursdays 9- 11am. I advice you get there by 8am. 2) thru the reception and security, to the room of the visa officer, called into the interview boot by a bell, declared my purpose of coming and the Lady asked for 'one' copy of the DBank form, admission letter and passport data page (also go with ur original intl passport). She asked me to sign in the boxes (3 of them) and wait outside the boot. (d place fine sha.....). 3) after about 30-45mins, i was called into the boot to collect my endorsed/certified/authorised documents mentioned above. 4) leaving the embassy, i scanned the page containing the certification. (be careful not to detach any sheet). 5) using DHL i sent the forms to the appropriate DBAnk address. 6) sent the scanned authorised page nd other required documents to the appropriate email for visa interview appointment on friday and got a reply with an appointment d following monday with date, time, place .
