Danke.

Sorry, I will like to rephrase slightly on my comments about your school earlier. BTU Cottbus doesn't doesn't maintain the position which I earlier purported as I had another in mind. BTU Cottbus is a relatively new school (1991), and relatively small too but their reputation for having a high percentage of international student is very true.
Am sorry for the earlier mistake. Are u going for MSC or Bsc. cos I heard finding an internship in Cottbus because of its size and location could be challenging except you go to Berlin. Every other statement is very true.
Sorry once again.
Good luck!
Ok, I'm aware its quite new and small too that's why I asked the question. Anyways, I'm going for a Bsc. How many hours from cottbus to munich? To berlin as well? Thanks a lot, I appreciate ur detailed contributions.

It is travel health Insurance, it is different from the health insurance you will take in Germany

If you google these two questions, you will surely get a good reply. Cottbus to berlin is like 45mins(estimated) and it's a border town close to Czech republic.
There is a good number of Nigerian students there and I met like 3 or 4 of them on facebook. Google Nigerian students in BTU cottbus, I am sure their website will come up and you can pick more info from there

Hello House,

Please those that have gotten their visa can you please throw more light on the diifferent insurance packages and how to obtain in Lagos.

If you read the page where you quoted this statement very well, you wouldn't need to ask this question again.
But I will help you out....Aiico insurance is 23k for 3 months while IGI is 14,500 for 3 months. When I went for my visa, I saw a lady brought GNI insurance and was obtained for 15k(according to the lady, our ruthless and fearless ibo man @ the gate gave her the contact) and from ur quote, mutual benefit is 16,800.
I used IGI and I took the insurance from IGI office @ Adeola hopewell on VI, it took less than 20mins.
NOTE: don't take anyhow insurance paper to the embassy, the guy's will bounce you.

Re: German Embassy And Visa by Nobody: 8:51am On Aug 12, 2014
osurvey: GOOD EVENING GUYS. Please am filling the visa application form, but i just encountered some problems. Please guys help me out. they as follows:

15. Proposed place of residence in the Federal Republic of Germany (address)

17. Do you intend to maintain your permanent residence outside the Federal Republic of Germany? If so, where? YES OR NO

21. trade or profession for which trained?---------> should i fill this question?

23. Intended duration of stay in the Federal Republic of Germany. From------- to---------

24. What are your means of subsistence?

Thanks.

Found this. Hope it helps!!!!

To fill Germany Student visa application form :

1. You Family Name (This should be exactly as in the passport)

2. You first name (This should be exactly as in the passport)

3. DOB in the format of dd/mm/yyyy. This format is the official German format.

4. Place of Birth : This is mentioned in your passport. Write the exact thing as is written in the passport. Do not add or substract anything.

5. Nationality : You must mention you current as well as any previous nationalities that you have given up. It clearly says each nationality should be stated.

6. Marital Status : Announce your marital status here. Strike out the non-applicable status with one single line in whichever language you are filling. If you are filling in English, and in case you are single, strike out the other three with one straight line. I would suggest, along with English, also strike out the bold German version as that is more legible and comprehendable and bigger in size. Even if you dont, it does not matter.

7. Spouse Details : This should of course only be filled if you are married. Follow the steps 1 to 5 in filling the details.

8. Children Details : This should of course only be filled if you are married. Follow the steps 1 to 5 in filling the details.

9. Father : Write your father's Family name in the first line and First name and second and any following names in teh second line exactly as in passport.

10. Mother : Write your mother's Family name in the first line and First name and second and any following names in teh second line exactly as in passport.

11. Passport or Other Travel Documents : Write PASSPORT in the first line. If you have any other travel document, write its name. The Passport number in the second line, date till which it is valid in the third line. Issued by (Maybe Passport officer or Assitant Passport officer) in the fourth line. The designation of the issuing authority is given in the stamp on the first page(the page immediately after the information page) in the Passport. Finally write the Date of issue in the last line

12. Authorization to return to : Write the place from where your passport is issued.

13. Entered Germany on : Not to be completed if the application is made outside the Germany. Just leave it blank.

14. Have you ever stayed in Germany before : Strike out whichever is not applicable with one single line. If you have been to Germany before, write yes and mention from and to and the place below.

15. Proposed Place of Residence : Now this is one place where everyone gets stuck. I think most of us do not have a place of residence finalized when we start our visa application. So, you can write the complete address of the Institute of your course ( and not the University's address) that is conducting your course. Be careful since it does asks for address and not just the City of your residence. I repeat, write the address of the Institute that is conducting your course.

16. Arrived on : Not to be completed if the application is made outside the Germany. Just leave it blank.

17. Do you intend to maintain your permanent residence outside the Federal Republic of Germany? If so, Where? : write yes if you intend to keep your current nationality. I suggest you to write yes as right now we are just going for studies and wanting to gain another Nationality is a matter of different decision at a different point of time. In the space below, write the country of your current Nationality.

18. Will you be accompanied by the members of your family? : My suggestion is write no. In case your parents or any other family member is planning to accompany you, they can apply for separate Schenghen visa at the time of departure which takes roughly 10 days to be issued.

19. How are you accommodated? : Not to be completed if the application is made outside the Germany. Just leave it blank and dont strike out anything.

20. Purpose of stay in Germany : Mention "STUDY" in the first line, Leave the second line blank.
Employer : Put a '-' (Hyphen) mark in this line
Name of educational establishment : Write the complete Name of your University.
Their addresses : Write the complete Address of your University.
Intended Employment : Put a '-' (Hyphen) mark in this line

21. Trade or Profession for which Trained :write your course name for which you are going.

22. Are you already in possession of a permit issued by a German labour office : Strike out with a single line whichever is not applicable.

23. Intended duration of stay in the Federal Republic of Germany : Now this is a tricky one. First of all, PLEASE enquire about any courses or any Pre-Course orientation happening in your course. Because the FROM that you give here, is the validity start date stamped on your Visa. For example my course is starting on 8th of October (imaginary) and I have a german language course organized by my University in the month of August till October. Also keep some time(maybe a week or so) before start of any course for you to complete all the post landing formalities without any hassle. So, I need to land in Germany on say, 8th of August. I would give the FROM as AUGUST, 2012. So the start of validity on Visa will say 1st August, 2012 and the validity expiry is exactly 90 days from that. You can land anyday in Germany after your validity starts. Now, if i do not know when my course is going to end (which month), I can write a tentative month in the TO section, say October, 2014. Dont worry here. Whatever timeline you mention here is just tentative. Even if you are not able to finish your course before the time that you have mentioned in the form, you will get Visa extension afterwards. All you need is to show them the finances when you try to extend it.

24. What are your means of subsistence? : Write "FINANCIAL SUPPORT BY PARENTS" or "EDUCATION LOAN" whichever is applicable. If you are being financially supported by any other source, like any other family member or a scholarship, write accordingly.

25. Have you ever been convicted? : Strike out whichever is not applicable. I hope everyone strikes out YES

26. Have you ever been expelled....................refused entry into Germany? : Write "YES" or "NO" whichever is applicable.

27. a) Do you suffer from any disease? Strike out whichever is not applicable. Be honest in mentioning this.
b) Do you have a health insurance cover for the Federal Republic of Germany? : All of us do not have a Health insurance from a German Carrier. We will get it once we reach there. So, write "NO. I WILL TAKE ONCE I REACH GERMANY".

PAGE 4: I hereby apply for a residence permit for 2 YEARS. Again this is just tentative. Strike out Days and Months. Write your complete present address, Place, Date and put your signature. Make sure the address you write falls under the jurisdiction of the embassy that you are applying to. They are likely to send you back if the address doesnt fall in their area. Paste the Visa photo in both the forms.

PS : You can show a travel insurance at the time of application valid for the period that you think you would be going, maybe for 1 month or 2. But I think it is not an important document. Atleast they didnt ask in Bangalore for this. Please confirm with your embassy.

Please refer your respective Embassy website for the docs to be attached with the application.

@bessiejoe, Cottbus located close to the polish borders (10 minutes ride) and not Czech (which is up to an hour depending on the means). However, you are right about them having many Nigerian students because of the high proportion of International students.
@expresschamber may be those students can help because the school is quite obscure outside of Cottbus or Brandenburg.
It will take you over 60 miles to the closest place in Berlin from Cottbus and more if you are heading to the city centre (almost 67-70mi). The time will depend on the means of transportation. An average street car or tram's speed is 43miles/h, give or take, (In many towns, 25-30mi/h is common) - stops considered. If you consider that, It will take you 1 h 30mins but ICE train (grey lines) @ 100mi/h will take 30-45 mins give or take. (There is a rail line running from Berlin to Cottbus)
Going to Munich from Cottbus is akin to a missionary journey, if you are considering commuting between the two cities on a daily basis. I know the distance from Berlin to Munich using ICE (very expensive) or car takes almost 6 hours, so, leaving from Cottbus should be like 30-40 mins less (Cottbus is closer). If you are going by bus, then be ready for a lengthy nap.
Hope you find this useful.
Good luck!

JULY 7, 2014: my second interview

Narrowly escaping the wrath of the Ibo Man, I arrived the Consulate at about 9.45am. After due checks and handling formalities, i was ushered into the premises and was directed to the reception straight up. Noticing it was another woman who manned the reception, i felt a little agitated as I was already familiar with the black chubby woman. I handed her a copy of the mail which rescheduled me for the second interview and took my seat amongst a couple of others who were already waiting.

In less than ten minutes, my name was announced and i was ushered into the inner room. wow!!! Standing right at the door to escort me upstairs was this beautiful, amiable, lovely young lady. She was full of smiles, her countenance was so friendly and accommodating. she was a complete contrast from the old lady, this experience was a total departure from my first.

She welcomed me warmly and unbelievably, called me by my names. She then motioned by hand gesture and i trudged along while she moved behind me as we walked upstairs into her office. At this point, I knew Oluwa was involved. Did we have an interview? No! It was a conversation, a sort of interaction, a tete -a-tete between two friends. Oh God, she was just too nice. why can't all humans be like her!!! she said to me succinctly, that the reason i was invited was to clear whatever doubts they had about my intentions to undertake my Masters Degree studies in Germany and encouraged me to relax and just give my best. I nodded affirmatively and enthusiastically, too.

I remember vividly that the first set of questions she asked revolved around my sponsor. she wanted to ascertain the relationship between myself and my friend, why he was sponsoring me and basically wanted to establish if there was any real connection whatsoever between us. she asked when my friend left to Germany, why he left, where he worked, etc. Oh boy, I was fully ready so i just took time to discharge. She kept nodding, smiling and urging me on as i responded, there could never be any better motivation. God bless her heart. she is too kind to be human.

We talked about my school, courses i will be studying in the programme, the structure of the programme, my plans after the programme, etc. For me, the highlight of the interview was when she asked why i chose to study in Germany, hmmmm, by the time i finished eulogizing Germany, nna mehn, see as this woman dey laugh scatter, dey nod head. She was just so impressed. Infact, i remember that at a point, she told me to slow down so she could type those things without missing out important details. In less than twenty minutes, we were done.

At this point, she turned fully from her computer facing me and said reassuringly, `you did very well'. She told me she was going to recommend the issuance of my visa and advised i shouldn't bother myself that the interview was good and that my visa would be issued in two weeks time. I was so thrilled that i didn't want to leave her office, lol. We talked back and forth and it was a wrap. As i stood up to leave, i shook her hand warmly and thanked her effusively and stepped out. She walked me downstairs! wow!!!
