Oga there's only so much the LG can do, you think they will come sit in the market and be policing everyone? or you want to say you've not heard of situations where LAWMA would say they are not coming to pick up trash in a market because of the way the shop owners litter everywhere? when it comes to cleaning especially in a market setting the responsibility falls on the individuals in the market.....anyone that tries to impose his will from the outside will only get frustrated.......

Please how are markets kept clean by local governments in London, Dubai, Chicago, New York and other world class cities that Lagosians try to compare themselves with

Please i would like to know what the sanitation levy paid by shop owners in the market used for.

I want to believe that the sanitation levy is for providing refuse dump in the market and evacuation of refuse from the market. If the market itis dirty, then the local government is not doing the job which they have been paid to do.

you think it's the city mayor that goes to clean the markets? or you think we don't have guidelines when it comes to these things? you can't keep putting everything on those in power when the ordinary citizen won't do his part.

Is it the market women who clean the market in those oyinbo cities Or they have local government workers who do it?

they have guidelines on how to and where to dispose their trash, then the city workers pick it up from there.....same in Nigeria, but here we just dispose our trash anyhow, you think if we were acting right state governments would be putting all that money into cleaning and awareness campaigns or Lawma will be fighting market women about their trash......even abroad if you don't pack your trash properly they will not pick it up and you will be fined.

So who is stopping the local governments from sanctioning offenders with exemplary fines? Can it be you

It’s wrong when it prevents them from doing whatever they want. But when it was giving them a clean and organized environment to sell things when they first arrived they weren’t complaining. Now that they’re making money they want to complain. We’ve had iya loja’s from time immemorial. They need to follow the customs of Yorubaland or leave.
They want Lagos to look like street of Aba so they can insult Tinubu.

If Iyaloja says she wants markets to be cleaned today or this week that is what Goes

That is how it has been since Time Immemorial

The Baales rule the Districts

The Babalojas and Iyalojas rule the Markets

Both answer to the Oba who Traditionally owns all Markets and rules the Kingdom

FUN FACT

The Oba Of Lagos was actually initially a Babalola of the Lagos Slave Markets that traded with the

International Slave Merchants and that was why he owns no Lagos Lands he was actually a Merchant

Prince who ruled the Slave Markets

Today the all Markets in Isale Eko district from Idumota to Obalende Still Traditionally belong to him

You are the one who urgently needs to get sense.
What is the point of paying levies, rates etc to the local government, plus the federal allocation received on their behalf, if the local government can’t employ workers to make the market clean 24/7? What is the point please

Market people need to clean up after themselves, can’t expect local govt to come clean up after you. What kind of nonsense is this that I’m reading on here.

I agree with you that market men and women should clean after themselves, but I think the Local Government should also stop collecting sanitation levy from the market if they want market men to do the cleaning themselves.

No they need to keep collecting sanitation levy to clean public areas in the market like hallways and general compound. Market men and women need to clean up after themselves and not wait for the government to clean up after them just because their paying sanitation levy. What kind of filthy mentality. This is why nothing works in Nigeria, citizens need to start taking responsibility and accountability of their environs. Don’t wait for the government to do THAT for you.
