If The USA Were To Launch A Military Strike Against Nigeria by tom28(m): 5:16pm On Jun 16, 2011
Now if such a scenario occurred then it would be one of the easiest military adventures undertaken by the Americans.Firstly for successful military invasion to be launched into Nigeria the U.S air-force will have to bomb key cities in Nigeria like Enugu, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Onitsha, Kano, FCT Abuja. Commercial activities will be  brought to a halt and we Nigerians will begin to feel the first pangs of war. Boko Haram and MEND will be supplied with heavy superior weapons by the Yanks to initiate a ground warfare against the Nigerian Federal Govt. The Americans will bribe the Ghanaian Govt so as to allow them to form a launch base in Ghana for their ground forces.

The US ground forces  will move into Nigeria after the US air-force has reduced major cities in Nigeria into masses of rubble and dust. They will move towards Abuja with the help of Boko Haram and Mend and they wont face a single resistance.Nigerian soldiers and the police will take flight and change their uniforms for civilian clothes (who wan die?) and ASO rock will be abandoned and the Americans will take over and install a black American as the US administrator for Nigeria.

@tom28

Why would the US need to bomb Onitsha?

Why would the US need to bomb Onitsha?
In a scenario that the US is at war with Nigeria the city of Onitsha would need to be hit because Onitsha is a commercial hub of nigeria and hitting it would be like severing off a major bloodline of the country.

America knows that the east isn't going to fight them if their intention is to break Nigeria.

That means the east would be occupied by American soldiers without loss of lives.

This thread could end up being useful when Nigeria falls out with the USA over the AFRICOM issue.Remember that Nigeria is against it and the US is hell bent on establishing a military base in West africa.Imagine such an issue leading to military threats against Nigeria if it still keeps proving stubborn resisting american"s intention to establish AFRICOM forces in West Africa.

It's easier and more conceivable for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than Nigeria being at War with the United States.
There's no point imagining an external military agression against Nigeria, the country is more burdened by internal oppressive forces.

If the US were to launch a strike, it'd be against some boko haram types in the north. I don't really think any of the other groups in Nigeria are anti-American. So no real reason for beef.

But yeah, they'd conquer the entire country in under 3 hours if they wanted to

Were you not here when the Americans were asking Igbo to go die for them enter their army. They are Igbo furens. Which American product imported by who, distributed by who, and bought by who? grin When I'm telling you this thing you're not listening. Igbo guys in the cities will kuwaria those electronics and with the new stable environment given to the land by the Americans the Igbo will copy the products, first of all who is going to be buying all those products when there will be cheaper made products by indigenous copiers? And how will Americans influence Alaigbo that much when there will be only one or two bases there? Think please.

You really dont need to be like Saddam before you have a fall out with the Americans.Sometimes disagreements over policies could lead to beef which might result in war or political assasination.Remember President Lumumba?
He was assasinated by the Western powers and branded a communist because he was against some of their unpopular policies. Now if for example Goodluck Jonathan is against the Americans establishing  an AFRICOM military base in West africa this could lead to the americans having some sort of resentment against Goodluck and this could result to anything.

. . . .then again, this isn't 1960 (thank God) and the fact that they are setting up base peacefully wouldn't call for any problems to rise up. Obvious.

Who ever said they are setting up such military bases peacefully?
Such bases are meant to monitor africans and dominate the african trade. Its like someone pointing a gun at your head.

If America were to start bombing Nigeria, its the Niger Delta and other oil producing area's that will be affected the most.

America is only interested in protecting its strategic assets (Nigerian Oil) and doesn't give a damn about 'Boko Haram' etc. If anything, such groups will be used as the excuse for their intervention.

I dont think they will waste bombs up north as they are not guaranteed any financial returns. Just like in Afghanistan, they are only interested in particular strategic areas such as 'Helmand' province where heroin in produced.

If it were to happen they will come up against little resistance - In fact some people in these areas will welcome the bombing and even start pointing to their enemies houses for the 'Yanks' to bomb.

They dont need to set up a military base as they can run everything from a navy vesell located just of the coast.

Mister you the one who sounds naive.Panama was conqured easily by Bush senior and Noriega aka pumpkin head who was the dictator at that time was hounded like a common criminal and put in a US jail and Afghanistan has already been conqured by the Americans. On the case of Vietnam the viets were ready to die for their counry and the weather of the locality was very unhealthy for the yanks hence more yanks died from malaria than from viet cong bullets. Now for the issue of Iran it would be much easy for the americans to occupy iran because iran is just all mouth and nothing and their security system is well below average. On the issue of our dear country nigeria it would be the most easiest thing for the americans to occupy it because for one thing we nigerians are scared and we love peace and we would be ready to be subjected by foreigners than to engage in warfare. If u think i am lying u check out the way Chadian rebels who infiltrate into the northern part of the country slauther nigerians like cows and rob us at gun point on a daily basis. It has already been established that nigerians are the biggest cowards on earth and we are the most docile.

@tom28(m), It is a far fetched idea and a suicide mission that will end the entire Western World very quickly.

Light Sweet Bonny Crude(or similar grade) oil will shoot up to  ₦155,587 / $1000.00 usd a barrel. In present circumstances The poor American(USA) infrastructure is already crumbling and in horrific decadence;without factories to produce the hardware for parts or machinery along with Nuclear power plants being shut down from odd weather catastrophe in USA .

America does not have the parts for Fighter jets of certain number to do such a mission and have not the training for the current newer fighter pilot jets they have wasted the American Tax payer money on. The Only way America(USA) can strike is use a organization like small terror groups like it supports in Columbia in attempt to destabilize countries like Venezuela (or perhaps Nigeria).

American Military Generals are really poor strategist and can not think very well or imagine the consequences of their actions. If one looks at their illegal adventures in Iraq,Afghanistan;not to mention that Europe had to be dragged into Afghanistan and has suffered much loss through financial also human cost. This proves American Military can not win a war or complete a job even with sophisticated weaponry or help like it had from Europe in Afghanistan.

On the last note, it is not hard to see that America(USA) is known for destabilizing major countries that effect economies world wide.
