What Is The Fastest Way To Rise In Rank In The Nigerian Army? by odumchi: 12:41am On Jul 21, 2011 |
I've been wondering, what is the fastest way to rise in rank in the Nigerian Armed Forces? And which Branch of the Military is the most enjoyable, (Army, Airforce, Navy)? I will appreciate your replies and comments. Thanks. |

EzeUche:shut if u are clueless ok @op The best way is to be very proactive in you daily duties. You have to know people in top places. It is advisable to be a tactian than an infartory 8 Likes 1 Share |

@ Alj I am a very good tactician and I might be willing to persue a career in the Nigerian Army, but I do not know any majors, colonells, generals, or commanders. Is there hope? 1 Like 1 Share |

odumchi: Yes there u can still hit the top. I know of a yoruba man that started 10 yrs ago and now he is a top dog. There is hope. One thing I can advice you in is to be close to a general or better still be part of the people that protect and walk with a general. Walk yourself to that spot first before he can recommend you for a higher post. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

alj_harem: Thats the thing, I do not want to be a bodyguard or an infantryman for that matter. My intention is to rise to a position of command. Is there no way a graduate can quickly obtain a commanding position without attending a military academy? In other countries, graduates are automatically made officers when they enlist. |

1. Academy - Army/AirForce 2. Befriend cadets in the 2nd/3rd generation military homes 3. Attend Offcrs Trng shortly after graduation 4. Market yourself to instructors and specialists 5. Take a tactical posting and never get on wrong side QMS. 6. Give focus to innovative and solutions - be the "go to" person! 7. Never turn down an invitation for an indoor sport (tennis/pingpong; officers hang out here and good way to rise. 10 Likes |

odumchi: Nah, if I remember correctly. This guy did not have anybody. My friend you have to be that bodyguard first (nothing comes easy) unless u know someone in there Lastly unless you are applying as a tactician then that is the only way that i know of 5 Likes 2 Shares |

Eze, it has nothing to do with region. If you are cadet from East, there are cadets in there whose Eastern fathers are generals and look out for aspiring Eastern boys to sponsor for officer ranks 12 Likes 2 Shares |

Our military force have no true combat fatigue, there is no external aggression knocking at their doors so it has become a lucrative business where there is everything to gain and nothing to lose. So the person u know probably has 100 or more people in his face looking for him to sponsor their access into the force. it will be hard telling odumchi to go see him with your reference. 2 Likes |

@ All Man, being a bodyguard seems like a waste of my time (Do not think of me as obnoxious, but I believe the talent of Nigeria's graduates should not be wasted on such things). In one year as an entrepreneur, I owuld have made more money than a bodyguard or infantryman for that matter. The problem is time, and I dont want to waste any of it. The thing is, it would take far more time in times of peacetime to rise in rank than in times of war. I guess the only options are: a) bribe b) finding a Godfather to sponser me c) being a bodyguard/ boy-boy for some years before being promoted to chaffeur 2 Likes |

ADC is actually a good post, depending on which officer u r assigned to but its a reserve corp - SIGNALS/GUARDS - and 99% assignments are sponsorship |

The top circle seems very difficult to get into, but I am told that once you get into it, its enjoyment from there on (Even though that is not my purpose). I heard of a Brigadier General who joined the military and just ammassed wealth. He aquired lands and properties all over the south and even though he retired, he still had soldiers that guarded his home and etc. Its amazing how much the so called "military men" of Nigeria are relaxing and just ammassing wealth and titles without even doing their job. If you take a look at Babangida, Buhari or Abacha's uniforms you will see a countless number of medals, pins and etc that were all aquired without any real combat. Its a shame that the Nigerian army lacks so much experience. 13 Likes |

Nna, u r right o! We are very very lucky that none of our neighbors is as ambitious as say, Sudan or Somalia. Those fvkers would have tried us so many times through the desert, the bushes, the forest, the sea. . . .anyway they get in hijack our government and do what they want. Look at Boko Haram dey take our national army make yeye. 3 Likes |
