At his recent visit to Lagos, Nigeria, British Prime Minister David Cameron had some interesting commentary on Nigeria’s growth prospects in the coming years. According to him, some predict that in the next forty years, Nigeria will have the highest average GDP growth rate in the world.

“Tell me this: which part of the world has seen its number of democracies increase nearly eight-fold in just two decades? Eastern Europe? No, it’s Africa. Which continent has six of the ten fastest growing economies in the world? Asia? No, it’s Africa. Which country is predicted by some to have the highest average GDP growth in the world over the next 40 years? You might think Brazil, Russia, India or China. No. Think Africa. Think Nigeria.” – David Cameron

40 years is too far off. If we restructure the country by way of SNC, strengthen the security agencies and having very sound economic policies then I'd say 10-15yrs is all it would take for Nigeria to be in the first ten.

And I forgot reducing corruption to the very barest minimum.

seriously, 10 to 15 years is not daydreaming oooo, if we get our acts together. Nigeria is like a huge combustion engine ready to fire up. you have the petrol and the oxygen, all you need is a spark and boooom!the rest will be history.

Seems plausible. Africa is the poorest and most mismanaged continent, so should grow the fastest with some competent hands on deck.

It doesn't mean jack!!!!!! They have being telling us for years how much POTENTIAL AFRICA HAS. They keep saying it year in year out because:

1. As visitors to our country they certainly have to find something good to say. Here is another one, somebody last year visited and praised former Gov. Akala for doing a great job in Oyo State or some nonsense like that, when everybody can clearly see that the guy is . . . well I 'll leave that part out.

2. Nigerians/Africans and their leaders do not understand ambiguous sayings. So when they hear such nonsense they actually start taking it seriously. The land of deep proverbs looses its head when the words come out of the mouth of a caucasian - it doesn't even have to be a caucasian, only not dark-skinned like us undecided undecided undecided

In reality, the statement you have so much potential - stated year in year out - is really calling you indolent.

They can't even predict their own country's growth rate next year, yet they are telling you about your country's in 40 years.

I hate such predictions even if it appears true.
It makes the Govt. think they're working and eventually they'll steal more to compensate the work done. Stupid!

David Cameron should be crying not praising a state with no certain future. Who says Nigeria will last another 40 years? its not even certain.

Re: Nigeria Predicted To Have The Highest Averge Gdp Growth In The World In 40 Years by stmarc32(m): 11:39am On Jul 23, 2011
this idiot must think we r all fools, a higher GDP only reflects how productive a country is in terms of exports  e.g Oil e.t.c, it has nothing to do with the standard of living, its just one of those economic gibberish they come up with to give Africans false hopes and of course re-assure us that their puppets(our leaders) r doing the right thing by them.

We can't only dwell on HOPE, Lets work it out. For now, the system is very hot for us to achieve 0.5%. He just gave us HOPE and nothing else.

And by the way, Who instructed Jonathan to visit that boy in Lagos? Ok he is afraid of BOKO HARAM, But been that the case, Jonathan should have stayed in Abuja and waited for him. He can't detect to us where he will meet. Jonathan sucks FULL time. You don't need to belittle your COUNTRY.

Cameron may be right. No wonder he made this state visit despite the security concerns. But to achieve this we need to develop our electric power base well, reduce corruption as well as cease the indigenisation policy that limits Nigeria partnering and recruiting expert  staff from western countries to work on the civil service.
