Would that be a problem if Bubu did not cancel the metro in 1984, and Thiefnuibu used Lagos IGR money tand allocations to expand it across the state since 1999, instead of stealing & looting like a loony

Splashme:
The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.

Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.

The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.

Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”

The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.

Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.

He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

LAGOS State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, yesterday, gave a breakdown of how his administration expended the N160 billion World Bank loan it acquired, saying the state maintained a healthy debt profile.

Fashoa, who spoke during his commemoration of 2,700 days in office and achievements in the last 100 days, in Alausa, Ikeja, said long overdue refund would go a long way in reducing the debt profile of the State, which he said the Federal Government recently published to mislead the public.

He said, “Recently, our political adversaries issued statements that we have borrowed N160 billion. What they have not told you is what we are doing with the money.”

Enumerating his government’s activities within the period under consideration he said; “In the last 100 days, we have commenced work on providing street lighting on the Muritala Muhammed Way in Yaba.

This is 10 kilometres of public lighting which will be completed by the end of this month. On Eko Bridge, Carter Bridge, Ikorodu Road, Lekki-Epe Expressway and every street and highway where there is street lighting in Lagos, it is the Lagos State Government that supplied the poles, the bulbs, the diesel and the maintenance.

“The only major highway we are not managing for street lights is the 3rd Mainland Bridge.

Fire engines, to secure lives, rail transport from Okokomaiko to Marina, with four stations of eight kilometres completed, and work heading to Marina, with piles appearing near the Eko Bridge every day are the places your Government is spending money. The expansion of the Lagos Badagry Expressway to a 10-lane highway is another place where your Government is spending money.

WHO SAYS 4 YEARS IN OFFICE IS NOT ENOUGH FOR MEANINGFUL ACHIEVEMENTS?

IT'S A FACT THAT 90% OF GOVERNORS IN NIGERIA SINCE 1999 WITH REVENUES AT THEIR DISPOSAL CANNOT BOAST OF A QUARTER OF THESE ACHIEVEMENTS EVEN WITHIN THEIR EIGHT YEARS IN OFFICE.

How much do you think it cost to build a light rail system linking every part of Lagos, and also given the terrain?
Jakande did a lot, but a light rail system is very capital intensive. I think Jakande aslo wanted to start it but the military canceled after the civilians were toppled. The excuse then was that it was too capital intensive.

Should we now credit it to Obi Pandora, that lying man?

Tinubu brought the investors, everybody knows this including Obi Pandora. So if we credit it to him, we are in line.

If a state government bring investor and the federal government didn't give them license what will the investor do?
There are some project that state government decision can't just stand alone,
1. International airport
2.sea port
3.international loan
4.university( yes for a state to establish an accredited institution no be beans)
5. Dam or power generating plant
Etc.
So when you see this project taking place in any region the federal government must give their consent otherwise no matter the investor you bring they can't do nothing.
And note any investor will not accept naira for carrying out their project in any region , so the federal government policy can also kill the project even before the project start..

That is why , both southwest and north know the potential south East has if given a level ground to play., South West are only benefit from the Nigeria northern policy because north know if they keep the two region as enemy (south West and south east) this country will collapse .

The Southwest will use this and taunt other regions forgetting it wasn't built with Yoruba only money but federal money with resources from other regions even IGR is base don all tax and payments made not just by Yoruba but 80% foreigners in Lagos.

So why do we always resort to tribalsim and hate.

I think the first thing you have asked is who actually owns the port. No be everything be tribalism but some folks like doing so. The deep sea port was initiated by the Lagos state government who saw a need and in keeping inline with the Lagos state Masterplan. So since it is a port and the jurisdiction in law falls under the purview of the NPA so basically the Ports authority are also involved to map out certain strategies and global standards. And lastly is the contractor which is a Chinese firm Tolaram( if I am right). It’s an tripartite arrangement spearheaded by Lagos.

To your question of other region, they always scream Buhari this Buhari that but will never and I repeat Never hold their governors accountable. I do not subscribe to the fact that Buhari did well oo. He failed. At the central but we can also itemize the successes of each governors at least Buhari is not holding their funds. What have they initiated and completed and some we have seen such as the Anambra Airport enough of Abuja let’s hold our Governors accountable and even Senators and reps don’t forget they both get constituency allowances too in hefty sums but we are all fixated on the President. At least I know Americans and Canadians are not fixated on the president or prime minister except for online discussion and media. On ground, they hold their leaders responsible big time and that’s exactly the opposite of what we do here. We just scream Buhari till fade!

SB2020:
Interesting facts about Addis Ababa and Lagos light rail projects.

Addis Ababa / Lagos
Cost == $475Million / $1.2Billion
Length == 34km / 27km
Time to Complete == 4years / 7years (projected)
Year Awarded == 2011 / 2008 (Construction began 2010)
Contractor == China Railway Eng. Corp (CREC) /Chinese Civil Eng. Constr. Coy (CCECC)
Population == 5Million / 20Million
GDP == $50Billion (Ethiopia) / $100Billion (Est.) (Nigeria - $535B)

Ethiopia has managed to deliver Sub-Saharan Africa’s first modern light rail project which opened in the capital Addis Ababa on Sunday, and in the process, beat Lagos whose own rail project remains four years behind schedule.

Ethiopia’s rail project was delivered on time, despite its being longer than the Lagos – Badagry rail line currently under construction.

Addis Ababa’s two line 34-kilometre system was built by the China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC) and cost $475m, 85 percent of which has been covered by China’s Exim bank. The Lagos Light Rail Project or Blue on Badagry Expressway, was to have 13 stations from Okokomaiko to Marina via Iddo for a total of 27 kilometres.

The contract was awarded to the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) at the cost of $1.2 billion in 2008, and was to be delivered in 2011. Survey work took one year between August 2009 and August 2010 while construction began July 2010.

The work is being implemented using the public and private partnership (PPP) model, whereby the state builds the infrastructure and the private sector provides the rolling stock and management. However, the project has not worked out according to the plan.
The 2011 deadline was missed, even though the State government got a loan to fund the project.

Do not go about saying what you do not know

The Money is 100% Private investor money
Lagos state has a shareholding by virtue of providing the Land
The FG has a shareholding because the constitution give authority to license ports to the FG and the FG cot a share in exchange for permission.

That is the situation with regard to funding and ownership

LASG desrves credit for the conceptualization and work to convince investors to put their money in Lagos state when they could have chosen Ondo or Akwa Ibom

Lol, I pity anyone that believes this, I have been to that port at the free trade zone and believe u me... That port would not be operational till next year, The road leading to the free trade zone has not even commenced, the road they did from Eleko junction down to Epe is a suicide mission so tiny... At least from September last year till now, that road has taken over 8 lives, that road is too tiny for normal vehicles talk more of big heavy duty trucks that would make use of that axis when ready... They are currently doing the road from Eleko towards Awoyaya, but trust me alot of work is still needed even December sef, they can't finish this road... Now the major road linking people from Eleko to the free trade zone has not even started.... Road asides now, the deep sea port itself is not ready atal, work has been done yes!, but mehn this 98% shit or 99% been told is thrash... That port is about 60% ready or less...

I always start by showing my bias,i will vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This is one of the reasons why I will vote for him,if there's anyone in Nigeria who will square up to the cabal and break the Monopoly of some parasites in Nigeria,I'm sure it's Asiwaju.
He single handedly broke the Monopoly of the creation of local government way back in 2004,he single handedly tried to break the Monopoly of power generation with the ENRON IPP,even though he failed,but he gave Lagos its own sea port before leaving office.
I'm very sure if Asiwaju could do all these way back in 2007,I dare to imagine what else he will do in 2023.
Asiwaju approaches government as a business,he believes government should be run as a business, that's why he could Invest in the Telecom sector when it was still a start-up Industry in Nigeria,infact it's on record he was the 1st state governor to approach the stock exchange to seek for bonds to facilitate the rapid development of infrastructure in Lagos state way back in 2005.
Asiwaju is a financial juggernaut,that way back in 2004 when motor vehicle licence plates was a monopoly of the federal roads safety corps,he took on the agency and today Lagos State is able to mint its own motor vehicle licence plates.
That's why I campaign passionately for Asiwaju,Nigeria needs a big thinker,a big dreamer,a man who sees beyond this crazy primodal needs of food,shelter, clothing that our myopic leaders are obsessed about.
We haven't even started our campaign...
Oya Obiritualists and Atikulators tell us what your principal will do......
