She will fail the nigerian people by causing more unemployment, removing fuel subsidies and creating more hardship but she will suceed for her paymasters the international banking system by privatising the entire public sector and opening up the country to be pillaged and raped over and over again, after she has finished she will go back to her cushy job at the world bank leaving a trail of misery and destruction in her wake.

Yes she did but OBJ and his Northern allies threw her off.
Sanusi then finished off whatever she achieved while she worked with Soludo.

Nigeria we hail thee.

Like I said, this is sort of the same she said 7 years ago. So, what is new?

Kobojunkie:

“Nigeria has to make some fundamental changes, it has to really diversify its economy,” Okonjo-Iweala told Reuters in an interview on Thursday. “The time is now because investors are interested in the country,” she said.

She said the manufacturing sector was no longer competitive due to increasing power shortages and bureaucratic hurdles, while the agriculture and services sectors had a lot more room to grow, and a flourishing entertainment industry held great potential.

First off, any state-led effort to "diversify" the economy will fail. Experience has shown over the past 50 years of our independence that the government cannot diversify an economy it has no business running in the first place. The government tried to diversify the economy by investing in iron and steel, petrochemicals, mining, pulp and paper, automotive industry, green revolution, hotels, airlines, shipping lines, banks, insurance and set up hundreds of state run enterprises to diversify its income source and the economy. What happened? They all failed miserably! The only industry that did not fail is run and controlled by foreign oil companies while we lazily collect rent and royalties.

The only way our economy can be diversified is if Nigerians themselves begin to produce the goods and services the world wants like the Germans, Chinese, Americans etc. That is the only way we can have a diverse source of foreign exchange and national revenue. We are not productive. That is why 90% of our annual national income is produced by 5 foreign companies. The key to our prosperity is our intellectual resourcefulness and not looking to the government to do it for us. The government itself is peopled by just as clueless folks as the average Nigerian.

Removing fuel subsidies is very important if we are serious to build our economy.

Fuel subsidies is not sustainanble.

Also this will enable the outsider (foreign investor on refinery) to operate in our economy.

Spot on.

GEJ-Aganga-Iweala-Sanusi - Non of these people are working for Nigeria.

They work for external parties interested in controlling and pillaging Nigeria.

She's already mentioned her interest in commodities - her interest in transfering them to the West.

I genuinely fear for Nigeria.

We just need to try our best this time around.

But sincerely I like the country to be apart. We are too backward.

My problem with all these World Bank and IMF technocrats is the use of the term "economy" How about improving the lot of Nigerians and empowering the masses economically and not "fixing the economy"?

Living in Abuja makes one easily forget the poverty all around. That is the problem. I think many of these ministers should be made to live in the suburbs so that they are reminded daily of their responsibilities to the Nigerian people.
Re: Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala Is 'Back To Fix The Economy' by cap28: 12:05pm On Aug 14, 2011
^^^

improving the lot of nigerians is not on the agenda of the IMF or the world bank - their agenda is to impoverish and degrade the living standards of nigerians that is why they're economic policies are all about CUTTING govt spending on social services and the transfer of these monies into debt servicing or funnelling into building of white elephant projects which do not benefit local people but only  a few nigerian politicans and western owned construction companies.  You can never understand what is going on until you understand white supremacy - white supremacy is about the total political and economic destruction of africa in order to ensure that africa NEVER becomes a competitor or economic threat to the anglo american empire run by britain and america.
This is why nigeria always seems to keep going backwards - the western nations have ensured that africa will never progress as long as it has placed poeple like obasanjo, goodluck jonathan and other scum to be at the helm of affairs.  Why was buhari removed from power in 1984?  if the west beleive in nigeria's progress why were they upset with buhari when he refused to take on loans from the international financial institutions? could it be because he refused point blank to continue paying the interest which was piling up on loans which had been borrowed by obasanjo and shagari?
buhari is the only nigerian head of state who argued for a freeze on the interest which had been piling up on our loans as well as a complete cancellation on loans which had been fraudulently entered into between the obasanjo regime of the 1970s and western banks.

you can see that when he tried to run for the presidential elections the corrupt nigerian elite embarked on a smear campaign in order to keep him out of office, thereby ensuring that their gravy train with the equally fraudulent western banks would be allowed to continue.

I am surprised when I hear haters bashing this woman. She is one of the best brains this country has got. Would you rather a career politician who has nothing
to offer occupying the post. Even GEJ is trying to include more technocrats in his government as not just the usual politicians who have nothing to offer.

She cannot fix the economy on her own, it is impossible. However, if we had distinguished professionals/technocrats in all the other sectors the country will be much better than it is today. She is doing very well where she is and Nigeria needs her more than she needs Nigeria unlike most of the other ministers.

She cannot solve all of Nigeria's problems, but we need more people like her!

The botomline to sustaining any economy is really the productivity factor.

Of everthing she said not once has she talked about productivity level.

She talked about diversifying but with what is the diversification going to take root?

If 2 million barrels can fix the economy, then bring it on. Show us. We get a lot of lectures but not a lot of application. If someone says he/she can fix the economy, I want to believe it. Only it seems this very same has made similar promises before now, and we all know how that really went, as opposed the pretty pictures painted us for a while there . Question is has anything really changed? The plan seems the same, so what is new? Why didn't this fix work the first time? Why will it work this time around? What is the magic, if any, to be applied to ensure it works this time around?

I wholly disagree! Nigeria is definitely fixable, only we seem to recycle ideas and people, without necessarily making much effort in ensuring their complete implemention.
