It only means that no one is infallible or incapable of making mistakes. No one knows it all even you and there's nothing wrong in taking corrections from others to get better in whatever you are doing. Having a teachable spirit and a listening ear are among the most important qualities of a good leader .

Do really mean it that asking your close allies, entourage etc, bout your performance shows incompetence and low self-esteem? Or are you just dumb, trying to play politics of bitterness?

If so,, it means you've not attended any professional courses before, cause if you do,,
The lecturer will often give you a score card to rate his performance, even some organizations will urge you to give them review and rate them after using their facilities.
Review gives you the opportunity to either consolidate or improve your performance, services.
Even great pastors ask their wives, families and entourage (behind closed doors) bout their performance.

It means, humility and you want to improve the quality of services you render your followers.
