What To Expect From Adams Oshiomhole As Nigerians Look Up To 10th NASS For Succor

The elections are over, and Nigerians are eager to learn what the newly elected officials plan to do to put the country back on track for long-term growth and development.

The legislature is a critical institution in the democratic process and one of its essential components, so any attack on its composition or operation is viewed as a blow to democracy.

The four fundamental duties of the legislature are budgeting, oversight, representation, and lawmaking.

The legislature makes laws for the good governance of the polity, represents the people's interests in government, performs oversight functions on the executive to prevent democratic tyranny, and also  safeguards the treasury by allocating funds for the operation of government businesses.

In addition to these, the legislatures of each nation also carry out other tasks that are delegated to them by the constitution of that nation.

For instance, the National Assembly is given investigative duties and responsibilities under Section 88 of the Nigerian constitution of 1999 (as amended). The National Assembly is mandated by the constitution to receive and investigate complaints and public petitions that are brought to its attention.

If we understand all of these factors, we must fully comprehend that the NASS is an institution tasked with ensuring that the country and its laws function properly. To that end, the National Assembly serves as a complement to the FG, and if we can scale it down in percentage, it consumes 70% of governance.

Adams Oshiomhole is a newly elected senator who is bringing a lot of energy to the legislature to ensure that the Nigerian systems works. He is a senator who won't nap during plenary and ignores the needs of his constituents.

For example, why would a major federal road project like the Abuja-Lokoja-Benin Expressway go through four presidents and still be ongoing? The project began with Obasanjo, then Yaradua, President Jonathan, and now President Buhari.

So, honestly, what have the senators representing Kogi and Edo States been doing, if not sleeping, abi na Helicopter dem take dey go their village?

Check out the massive fraud occurring with the FOREX market where the nation has two official dollar rates, the CBN rate and the Bureau de Change rate.

For instance, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) might give proxies a million dollars at a rate of 450 USD each, and these individuals would then walk over to the closest Bureau de Change and exchange for 750 USD, making over 300 million dollars in profit without importing a single thing.

What oversight functions are the senators performing that during the Buhari administration, Emiefele became almost the most powerful Nigerian, to the point where INEC had to practically beg for funds to conduct the recent elections?

Have you ever wondered who benefits from the government's annual subsidy of more than $7 trillion? Diesel, kerosene, and PMS are not even subsidised in the true sense. Are there no senators to call these people to order under Section 88 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended)?

Adams Oshiomhole has a history of standing by the common people, and even at the age of 70, he is not ready to give up all the causes he started when he was just 17. Oshiomhole's energy would shake the Red Chambers and compel other senators and representatives to consider the important issues and oversee the efficient operation of the country.

Nigeria as a whole would benefit from Oshiomhole's stewardship because he is a personality to be reckoned with and enjoys widespread respect from the populace. Oshiomhole is also well aware of the needs of his people.

With his highly engaging moments at the National Assembly, Oshiomhole would once again do not only the Edo Nation but the entire country proud.

Well it's good to be hopeful in everything in life... but in cases of nigerr politics... it's like pouring water inside basket..
If you put more hopes in these our politicians. That's when they will messed up. Rather still let everyone faces life squarely. So if at all they do well or bad as usual.. it won't be a shocker.

Long life to all the political office holders working hard for the betterment of the country.

Oshiomole will be of great impact in NASS, he will bring a lot of reforms and spearhead some bills and motions.

Most of this unprepared new legislators will make a mess of the NASS, the Executive will use them to get they numbers they needed.

Expect nothing.

A leopard never changes its spots.

In 2014 when the ECA was born, oil sold above the budget benchmark and $9bn (later grew to $15bn) was saved. Some governors started fighting the FG for it to be shared. The battle to share this reserves then and then was spearheaded by Governors Amaechi, Oshiomole, Fashola, Akpabio, and Aregbesola. It turned dirty and it was eventually shared amongst the greedy wolves.

In 2022, with the benchmark and what oil sold for, we should have at least $11bn in the ECA. But when last it was checked, nothing went into the ECA; instead, reserves were taken out and the last balance there was less than $400k. Surprised? Of course not. The governors who fought to share them are now part and parcel of running the FG.

A leopard never changes its spots.
