They do. Very much so. And yes, they reject power from GENCOS becasuse their low monies from tarrif collection means they cannot pay for the power they eventually reject. If they accepted it, the debt they would incur would make their current disastrous debt look like chicken change.



And who were allowed to SET THEIR PRICES. Nothing like price controls, and services back in the day were very bad (The reason why many Nigerians started having two phone lines is because for a time you could not use MTN lines to call other networks and vice versa, and you could not call NITEL lines or any other land lines)

But they were allowed to SET THEIR PRICES.....and as a result, they made a profit and made things better, and prices eventually came down because compettion.

DISCOS can't set their prices...and government even prevented them from rasing their prices as allowed by the laws for two years.





Oga, even with the price increases, government DOES NOT LET DISCOS RAISE PRICES ABOVE WHAT IT COSTS TO PRODUCE POWER.

You are rasing chickens, and it costs you N5000 to raise one chicken. Broilers. Would you sell them at N1000 to help the poor, or at N7000 to make a profit?

How do you want to make more money when you're not even supplying the electricity? Even at the current rate does the supply commensurate with what people are paying for? Give us the steady power first and let's see if people won't pay even if the tariffs increases. If you people lack the capacity and funds to do business it's better they unbundle you people and bring in serious investors who have the financial and technical muscle for the power sector. You can't come and strangulate us with high tariffs just because you want to keep your business afloat.

In my area in Abeokuta Ogun state... We have not have light for the past 3 weeks yet i pay for services that i do not enjoy.

Even if Nigeria increases the price of it's monthly power supply nothing will change rather people will buy more generators to use cause people are not getting the electricity they pay for ,an average Nigerian with generator spend more money on fueling his gen on a daily basis cause there is no light , in my town everyone uses prepared meters the meter turns off when you don't pay , still the light is not constant

Most Nigerians are greedy, they want the best things at a cheap price (Education, 24/7 power, good roads, health facilities, etc) yet they can't afford to pay the price. An average school fee is 45k in Nigeria but x100 in the UK, and electricity units abroad are 5x the cost of ours, health insurance is a must for all in sane clime. If I may ask how many Nigerians are willing to pay these prices like the West does? No government even Saint. Obi can't give us an eldorado we dream of without us citizens paying the prices. I hope BAT will be bold enough to remove subsidies and enforce family insurance policies, and taxes, then make good use of those revenues like the West so that we can have the eldorado of our own

Power costs money. You better understand that.

Even if we handed over the DISOCS to people you consider suitable, they have to be freed to set their own prices, not forced to charge cheap.
