shortgun: Ribadu is a square peg in a square hole. Any military guy that refuses to listen to him shall be showed the way out. The president is a civilian and still the commander in chief. Those military officers that occupied the post in the past did not even live up to expectations 1 Like |

vivalavida: So, only police force is corrupt, while military is not corrupt? Why do Nigerians overrate those military guys? No wonder they oppress and harass you on the roads. Many military officers that occupied NSA post in the past didn't perform. So, Ribadu is fit and competent 2 Likes |

shortgun: What have the so called "Retired Generals" in that position from the past done about our security? Those Generals were all businessmen feeding on the political crisis in terrorised regions. An example is Dasuki who was busy transferring billions to his cronies. They made us to believe that position is "Retired Generals right". They are political thieves! I support Ribadu being in that position. Let's deviate from the acclaimed normal trend.... Ribadu will surely make a difference if looking at his profile is to go by. He has wealth of experience in security worldwide. 2 Likes |

vivalavida: Have all the retired Generals they have been appointing as NSA been able to secure the country effectively? You can't be doing things the same way and expect different results. It's a political appointment, anybody can occupy that office. The problem with us is that we have been ruled by the military for too long so we are still inadvertently attached to them, despite the fact that most of them are grossly incompetent, corrupt and illogical. |

shortgun: What are you saying really? What are the core functions of a National Security Adviser? Those so-called military men who had held that position, what did they bring to the table? Must a national security adviser be an ex-combatant? National security is about intelligence gathering (core!) The security chiefs are there to formulate security policies based on intelligence gathering and advice from the NSA. A civilian can hold that position. 1 Like |

shortgun: You forgot that a civilian has held that office before now. NSA is about internal security and not international war. Don't forget that internal security is the responsibility of Nigeria Police. Just watch how Nigeria Police would take back its responsibility from the Army. Ribadu said he would do it and secure our country from insurgency. He said he has his strategies and I think we should give him the chance. 1 Like |

shortgun: The question you should be asking yourself is those former retired military officers that had hitherto occupied the position over the year how well did they fare. To make genuine changes you have to think outside the box, bring in fresh blood and upset the status quo. These retired military office shield their own and allow impunity perpetuate itself, that explain why the military over the years have been neck deep into oil bunkering with non called to book even after a serving governor openly pointed accusing fingers on them. Any serving army chief who refuse to accord the new NSA his due respect should be shown the way out, it's that simple, it is no longer business as usual. The new NSA is seasoned and he proved his mettle during his stint as the EFCC boss, for the fact he was chosen mean BAT saw something in him. Don't crucify him yet, wait for him to generate a scorecard. 2 Likes |

shortgun: The NSA is not supposed to be a military post. Its more of a strategic, coordination post. In the US, this post is mostly occupied by civilians with expertise in intelligence, strategy and international affairs. We've had military men in that position fir years, and the country has never been more insecure. Let's try something else |

While I would not sacrifice experience on the table politics, I believe having a neutral individual who has not been influenced by the modus operandi of a sector would be recommend taking a cue from the western world most especially USA. In addition, even as organization we rely on consultants who to help create strategic plans for organization growth based on their isolatory view point. shortgun: |

shortgun: National Security is all about law enforcement not always necessarily a military matter. In the United States lawyers have also been known to hold that office. Ribadu has a legal background and a law enforcement background. Nigeria's long years of military rule has made everything to be militarized. You do not need to be an ex-soldier to be a successful NSA. In the Nigerian experience do not ex-military men also have political ambitions? Yes, military experience can be a valuable asset in this role, but it is not the only experience needed to make a success of the role! In the United States there have been several National Security Advisors who have had some experience with law enforcement. For example, Robert C. O'Brien, who served as National Security Advisor from 2019 to 2021, was a lawyer who specialized in national security law. He also served as a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of Florida, where he prosecuted cases involving drug trafficking, money laundering, and terrorism. Another example is Stephen Hadley, who served as National Security Advisor from 2005 to 2009. Hadley was a lawyer who specialized in national security law. He also served as the legal advisor to the National Security Council during the George H. W. Bush administration. These are just two examples of National Security Advisors who have had some experience with law enforcement. However, it is important to note that neither of these individuals had a career in law enforcement. They were lawyers who specialized in national security law, and they had some experience working with law enforcement agencies. Ribadu has both a career in law enforcement and understands how to use the law to achieve national security objectives. In Nigeria, the military approach to things has resulted several times in ignoring the law and using brute force, and as we have seen it does not always work. Wish him the best and let us try something different this time around! Modified: See images attached. Which of the qualities highlighted in the two pictures attached does Ribadu not have but that your preferred retired army generals have? 1 Like 1 Share

vivalavida: Ribadu is not the first police officer to be employed as NSA. Under the military government of General Ibrahim Babangida, Gambo Jimeta, a former inspector-general of Police, served as the NSA. Aliyu Isma’ila Gwarzo, a retired assistant inspector-general of Police (AIG), served under both civilian and military leadership; first under Chief Ernest Shonekan and then General Sani Abacha. In USA .i.e UNITED STATE OF AMERICA, a hybrid pure civilian has bn elected as NSA before. I prayed they wont disappoint us. |

Re: Nuhu Ribadu Assumes Office As National Security Adviser (NSA) by joyandfaith: 4:40am On Jun 28, 2023 |
shortgun: We actually need a disciplined police officer as NSA. NPF are better in internal security. External security is not our problem for now. Appointment of Generals as NSA in the past has not solved many security issues. |
