The Ochi Idoma didn't say anything about "Aleku" the spirit of the ancestors of the Idoma people invoked to bind a woman automatically to her husband through rituals usually performed as part of traditional marriage rites.

All these are always on the women, leaving out men.

Sir, is it just??

Igbos should overhaul their cultures too! It's toxic! Spending millions for marriage and burial isn't worthy! Am Igbo before you start quoting me! Omenala Igbo adighi nma ma ncha! Umu nwanyi anaghi ekete ekpe! Women don't even inherit anything in Igbo land! Ndi Igbo megharia omenaala unu maka odi njo! O reere ure nakwa sikaria nkakwu n'isi! They always give stupid powers to first son traditionally that's our my paternal uncle sold all useful lands after my grand father's death! These land would have been worth hundred of millions currently but that uncle is still wretched till now! I regret being an Igbo! I prefer Yoruba culture!
they are always wretched, stupid family members.

Blacks! There is no price on a human being - whether literal or figurative. Marriage is simply the verbal declaration of intent by two adults that have come of age that they want to spend their lives together in the presence of witnesses. Simple!.

Subhumans will come under this mention and start frothing in the mouth about how dare you talk against their sacred brideprice. But ask a Nigerian or a black African what brideprice really means and how it came about, he has nothing to say other than hurl shallow emotive invectives about tradition..

Nonsense!
Just because u did a four year degree course at the university to memorize useless stuff in English language doesn't mean that ur culture is useless. U use Education to modify and adjust ur cultural practices (just like Och’Idoma has done), u don't use Education to condemn ur culture totally.

You're not making any sense. You're willing to pay an olosho or hookup girls (who have nothing to offer u) N50,000 for one-night-stand, but u can't pay N50,000 to marry a decent lady who will be more useful to u beyond sex. The former will spend a night with u and the later will spend the rest of her life with u. Now u can see that no amount of money (bride price) can pay her for the number of days she will be spending with u for the rest of her life.
U still think you're "Educated" with this stupid mentality of urs?

In Ado-Ekiti, our bride price is not up to 20k
The only thing is that the cheap lady is likely to give you children fathered by other men.

Cheap things are really costly.

Bride price is a token (which could be monetary or any other item) to seal a covenant between two families coming together through the union of their loved ones. It is symbolic. The amount is a totally different matter all together. But condemning bride price in its entirety depicts a lack of understanding of how vital contracts are struck.

Bride price is not an African thing. You may need to study other cultures around the world. Money greed is what is driving many Nigerian families to charge exorbitantly. Bride price generally used to be items, not money. And the value depended on the family reputation of the bride. If you were marrying a princess, you would do more than the man marrying a commoner.

Lastly let me add this. Bride price is the first test of a man's capacity to take up familial responsibilities. It was devised as a means to impress in men that starting a new family was serious business. So you suggesting that two adults should just consent to each other and that is marriage is a very ridiculous idea. I hope you celebrate each time Northern governments pair up men with brides and pay up their wedding bills. What does it result in? Children littered all the over the country begging to survive because some people who had no economic and mental capacity to fulfill familial duties were gummed together by a thoughtless government.

Now I understand! Ur father didn't pay bride price on ur mother that's why paying bride price doesn't make any sense to u.
But ur father paid ur mother N50,000 for one-night-stand na, is that a good culture to u?
Why is bride price ur problem? Why are u not criticizing the amount ur father paid for one-night-stand with ur mother? Since u believe sex and cohabitation should be free. But honestly, ur father was duped for paying N50,000 for one-night-stand with ur mother and still end up with a Dumbo like u as a son.

Don't let me give u high blood pressure Ooo. Continue to mention me if u need full history about ur useless self. But hope u won't collapse before I finish telling the history? grin

Your white masters spend thousands of dollars just to buy engagement ring. Brideprice doesn't mean they are selling their daughters.
