Schneiderlin has been called into the France squad after an injury to Diarra.

And i'm just here wondering why Coquelin "The Best DM In The League" wasn't called up instead....
The stats showed he was the best DM in the league before injury ruled him out of the major part of the season around Nov/Dec, Even when he returned, Flamini and El enny played more, as he wasn't totally fit then. tongue cheesy

Yep but if we add this guy and Koulibaly/Manolas/Benatia, our defence will be the strongest it has been in years.
What's the essence of strong defence without goals, you want to turn us to manure (specialist in goalless draw) we clinched the golden glove last season that says something about our defence.
Athletico arguably have very good defensive record last season but their attack let them down in big games.Hence their defence yielded to pressure and they ended the season trophyless.
If the attack is very good ur opponents will be scared of coming out to pressurize you it works for Barca, it kinda worked for us a bit but what let us down is our terrible finish courtesy Giroud.
Wenger should get a striker, that's the priority.

The France legend feels the Real Madrid striker had every right to give his opinion about Les Bleus boss' decision to snub him forEuro 2016Eric Cantona has defended Karim Benzema over the Real Madridstriker's comments that France coach Didier Deschamps "bowed to racists" by leaving him out of the squad for Euro 2016.Benzema claimed on Wednesdaythere were no sporting reasons to omit him from France's squad for the upcoming tournament, stressing Deschamps' decision was influenced by the political climate. The forward's comments resulted in an angry reaction from France Football Federation (FFF) president Noel Le Graet, but Cantona feels Benzema had every reason to speak up."I am absolutely not surprised by Benzema's comments. I'd like to point out that - like me - he has at no point accused Deschamps of racism," Cantona toldLiberation."He has only said that Deschamps' decision was influenced by thepublic opinion, which is the result of the current political climate in France."Benzema showed courage with his comments, because he is stillplaying and is still available for the national team. But it is only normal that he thinks like a French citizen before thinking like a player. He has responded to a certain problem."Cantona previously sparked outrage when he suggested Deschamps had snubbed Benzema and Hatem Ben Arfa because of their African heritage, but he has no regrets over his comments and is adamant he only meant to spark a debate over the attitude toward people of foreign origins."It is clear that when you discard a player like Benzema, you take away an entertaining player. For me, it was an unfair decision, so I asked questions about it," he added."I don't care about the reaction to my comments. Controversies like this last 24 hours during which the morons speak up and then people move on."I said it was possible Benzema was left out because of what happened with [Mathieu] Valbuena. But that does not mean I cannot ask questions. The minister of sports and two members of the government wanted Benzema out of the Euros. That is enough for me to question the independence of Deschamps."Benzema was suspended in between regional elections. The mood has changed in France since Charlie Hebdo. There is a certain attitude toward people of north-African origins."But Benzema is presumed innocent until proven otherwise. If heis found innocent, he will still have missed the Euros. As for BenArfa, he is only guilty of being one of the best two or three best French players out there."Deschamps intends to take legal action against Cantona for his remarks, but the former Manchester United star does not fear the potential consequences of his comments."Deschamps seems to be willing to sue me. It will be the first time he moves from a defensive position into an attacking one... He will find out whether it's easy," Cantona continued."Between the three of them, Deschamps, his agent and his lawyer, they should be able to see the difference between defamation and discussing a problem in a society."I don't have scores to settle. I just give my opinion."

Has Benzema been cleared of the court case he has on him? Anyways, I don't even like that country called France. This is why I am rather happy that Coquelin was not selected into that team. Hopefully BOSSCIELNY and Giroud will also not suffer any injury at the tournament.

Good luck to that country. Not my cup of tea.

A manager is allowed to pick players he knows he'll be comfortable with. Benzema still has dat blackmail issue with Valbuena going on. So maybe Deschamp didn't want that kind of instability in his camp.
As for Ben Arfa, when lasr did dat one even kick a ball for France??
And there are like 10 other midfielders to be considered in dat French team b4 Coquelin can even dream of making the team....

The reverse could be the case as well. What's the point of getting a striker if we keep conceding goals. You want us to be like liverpool of 13/14 season??
Yes a striker is priority, but wenger has neglected the cb position for so long it has now become a problem. Kos and per will be 31 and 32 this September. Gabriel is still raw and Wenger doesn't trust chambers as a cb. We need a world class cb and someone to replace Monreal if possible.
Ricardo Rodriguez would certainly improve our buildup play from the back and is by far a better crosser than any fb we have.

It's simply cos Coquelin ain't proven , even Bellerin almost missed out of spain's squad.
Experience counts in tournaments stop being sentimental, that's the reason u have under 21 and under 17 competitions to give room for these young lads to rep their countries.

I should stop being sentimental?? Maybe u should stop being sentimental and just face the fact. Coquelin is simply not good enough(I no wan say he's useless coz he's not) for the French team.

He's unproven u say. Who knew Kante before this year?? Abi shey no be March the guy play his first match for the senior team ni?? Even Kondogbia has been capped already. Coquelin cant get into the team not bcoz he's unproven but bcoz there are better players ahead of him.

Coquelin didn't grow up in France. There is this silent sentiment within European circles.

Coquelin had a dip after his injury, but he is surely better than Schneiderlin. Surely. Kante? Maybe.

I'll still insist injury took a toll on him, he didn't get substantial play time during the second half of the season.
also note that a lot of politics go on behind the scene when it comes to national team selection, case in point Wilshere that made his team without breaking sweat while "Danny was left at home to Drinkwater" Bellerin by miracle was later brought into his team he was never in the initial plan.
Rooney would be considered in England before Rashford we all know who was better this season, experience also counts that's what I'm saying.
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: Finally Reborn! The Red & White Army: FA CUP Champions 2020 by Fkhalifa(m): 7:16am On Jun 03, 2016
It all even boils down sentiments, personal favorites of the coach, A zidane or mourinho could have chosen coq while Simone and low may not even find him worthy of the U23squad

The fact and the truth that you know is that coq is good enough to make the French team, his stats before the injury showed he is the best DM in the league

I think he even broke the record of the most interception in a match in the history of BPL.

Actually I thought that Drinkwater's goal against Chelsea on that final day could have earned him a place in Euros- it was a screamer from 35yards against Courtois.

Again he wasn't competing against Wilshere in Hodgson's squad- Wilshere has a permanent seat, that's why Hodgson came to Emirates to watch him and even labelled him 'fantastic talent', Drinkwater was competing with the likes of Milner and Henderson, both of whom I think on a good day are better.

Drinkwater should have been taken over Wilshire who tends to be indisciplined in defending the middle of the park
Also he is injury prone and only played 4 games all season

That's nepotism, same reason Mikel Obi will always get a spot in our squad despite his lackadaisical attitude and his below par performance.

Brother, Wilshere is the most creative player currently in the England NT. That his season was hampered with injury does not mean he has lost his creative sparks, drives and turns. The challenge really was with his fitness, if the coach declares him fit enough then nothing should stop him from being in the squad.

On Mikel, jokes apart, he is the best thing that has happened to Nigerian football after Kanu Nwankwo and JJ Okocha.

drinkwater is a new talent & unproven, yes! But again he's right there amongst top 3 most inform midfielders in England, heck he made the most tackles amongst English players in epl this season. Again wilshere is a diff player entirely. Aggression & passion & a style that no one else brings to the team whc is important for tournaments like euro. I've not seen him play much but based on stats I'd take both him n wilshere & drop someone else. Even Alan shearer wasn't happy drinkwater was dropped & Hodgson said rashford took his place!

Roy should have taken both of them and dropped Sturridge. Not taking Drinkwater is the purest form of nepotism on Roy's path. It's very shameful to say the least.

there was no reason not to take him. Rashford was taken just to reward him, we all know he's not going to start. But drinkwater has got a very decent chance at starting based on form. The very least was to reward him for winning the league. It was very myopic of him. On sturridge. I think he taken cuz of his left foot. He's the only one.

Roy might live to regret that mistake, and if he fails, especially from the midfield, pundits and fans will blame it on Drinkwater's exclusion. On Sturridge, that's a walking time bomb. He wasn't even fully fit when his name was announced. Forget the left foot, Rooney, Vardy and Kane are more ahead in striking order than Sturridge. Removing Sturridge or Rashford was the best thing to do. Even taking Wilshere to the Euros was another nepotism to me. Just 2 uncompleted matches and he's on board to Euros? BS!!
