Hundreds of ex-militants from Bayelsa State yesterday took over and barricaded the ever busy Warri/Port Harcourt (East/West) Highway forcing vehicular and human movements to both cities to a standstill for several hours.
The militants who were protesting the alleged non-payment of their disarmament allowance by the Federal Government barricaded the road by the bridge at Mbiama town, the only access road leading from Yenagoa to Rivers State.
The blockade, THISDAY checks revealed started at about 6.00 am when the ex-militants forcefully collected two trailer trucks from their drivers and used them to block the bridge.

The ex-militants alleged Federal Government’s insensitivity to their plights, submitting that a year after the disarmament programme, the Federal Government is yet to make good its promises to them.
According to them, while the Batch ‘A’ ex-militants are currently undergoing training in Cross Rivers, “those of us that belong to Batch ‘B’ are yet to be attended to.”
Following the action of the boys which lasted till about 10 am, men of the Joint (Military) Task Force, (JTF) were drafted to maintain the peace even as the boys had their way unmolested by the soldiers.

Contacted, the Joint Media Coordinator of JTF, Lt. Col. Timothy Antigha said normalcy has been restored in the area as the boys were persuaded to vacate the road.
Said Antigha, “there is free flow of traffic in the affected areas now. You can drive to the place to confirm. The situation has been brought under control.”

Nothing will happen. The Nigerian weather is too harsh for any one to venture into the sun to protest kini. God forbid protest.

GEJ should resign. What has Nigerians done to him? He says he's slow but calculative yet he was able to remove subsidy first day of 2012.

I can see that there is a lot of propaganda going on in this online forum now as regards this fuel subsidy .

In as much as we must report issues across the country and beyond ,let us be reasonable enough to report facts and not falsehood.

I will also advise that people engage in constructive arguments and not just name calling .If you feel nigeria is so bad ,join politics and contest to change the situation and not sitting behind your key board .Talk they say is cheap .

Nigeria state is in a deep corrupt mode ,and requires patience and wisdom to navigate it out of the mess .GEJ is barely 7 months into his 4 year tenure .Let us allow him some time say 2 years .He is slow no doubt but i think slow and steady wins the race .

We shall get there ,we are suffering now for the future of this great nation ,lets not be selfish even unto the unborn generation .

I will be happy to see a future generation that would refer to us as having laid the foundation of what they are enjoying in the future.

I am not a fan of Timipre but your claim is preposterous. What facts did you rely on before declaring that he knows about the protest?
