@mayflowa
seems like u've been away 4rm home 4 a long time

Why, Have I lost touch of reality? Not really. Am a lecturer at one of the Federal Universities. Just doing a short programme at Oxford's University now. I will be back by May.

Gej mean well but he somehow lacks the power of influence. Now that is what leadership is about. Knowing how to bring an act about. If power and transport system were fixed, this act would have been nothing serious on the people.

Divide 1600 by 36 states?
That is 44 buses per state. Grossly inadequate.
Lagos State Government has hundreds of buses in its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) scheme,yet there is a huge vacuum.
The promised 44 buses per state: How will the fueling of the buses go? Is it not at N150.00 per litre that the buses will be fuelled?
If the buses are fuelled at N150 per litre, what will be the transport fare?
If the buses are handed over to private investors to manage,then it is obviously not going to be different from the commercial operators in town
This is no solution yet. Its back to square 1.
A better option would be to introduce Railway Transportation powered by electricity
Re: 1600 Buses To Be Deployed Nation Wide by realborn(m): 6:36pm On Jan 05, 2012
@ knowledge4,
The buses from what I heard will be powered by Diesel and not PMS. Nevertheless, the price of diesel is higher than PMS. Savings on efficiency of Diesel powered buses over their PMS counterparts may be insignificant. Thus to run a profitable business, they must charge a competitive fare. Above all, the venture has no impact on the socioeconomic welfare of Nigerians. The quantity ordered confirm there was neither an apposite thought process nor was there planning nor assessment of the usefulness of the venture. Dead on arrival!

Nigerians = 160,000,000
buses= 1,600

(Nigerians)/(Buses) = 160,000,000/1,600 = 100,000 Nigerians per bus.

Palliate measures  indeed

What comes firstsubsidy removal or improvement of mass transit

And can we use this buses to power our generators too?
Re: 1600 Buses To Be Deployed Nation Wide by swiftycool(m): 5:49am On Jan 06, 2012
@those supporting this move, I believe its important to reason very well especially about Nigeria's perculiar problems b4 u can conclude if a palliative is wise or dumb as it affects bennefficiaries

The only reason why Nigeria's fuel consumption increased drastiically was due to d unavailability of electricity which is the live wire of SMEs, Our irresponsible lying govt failed to provide this instead opened up d boarders for d infiltration of generators in millions 4 everyone to provide 4 themselves, now intend to take away d fuel dey used 4 dis "big liability" dey were forced to become dependent on

For a govt which claims one of its major objectives is provision of employment, this move is completely antagonistic. The busses provided which am sure would be a partnership with a private company probably owned by one Pdp loyal theif (maybe Dangote) will push many okada, bus and taxi owners out of business as they probably would get cheaper fuel or some advantage as d Govt recognised carriers.

You render millions of hustling self employed people jobless by taking d power of their business which was PETROL yet U BASTARDS especially FG has not implemented the N18000 minimum wage nor paid many project contractors! Y R dey slow to give yet fast to take?, @ mayflowa if u R really in the UK u would observe from sensible leaders that it should b the other way round!

In my opinion,deploying lorries would have been a better alternative.At least,the prices of foodstuff and other commodities would be controlled.I hope those who collect #200 and a cup of rice in exchange for their votes will learn a couple of lessons from the recent events in the country.I hope we have also learnt that we do not need an Ijaw or a Yoruba or an Efik or a Kalabari or an Urhobo or an Igala or a Bini leader.We need a Nigerian leader.
