Tribunal Strikes Out Akunyili/Ngige Case For Lack Of Jurisdiction by chigo4u: 12:25pm On Feb 21, 2012
The Anambra State Election Petitions Tribunal on Tuesday struck out the suit filed by a former Minister of Information, Prof. Dora Akunyili, against the election of Dr. Chris Ngige as the senator representing Anambra Central.

The tribunal cited lack of jurisdiction.

It was based on a recent Supreme Court judgment that all election petitions should be concluded within 180 days.

Akunyili, who ran on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, filed the matter in May 2011.

In the course of the hearing of the petition, the tribunal struck out the matter. But Akunyili headed to the Court of Appeal and it ruled that the matter could not be dismissed on technical grounds.

It also ordered the tribunal to continue with the hearing of the petition.

When the tribunal tried to resume the matter, Ngige objected, on the grounds that the 180 days mandatory period for the hearing of election petitions had elapsed.

When the tribunal declined, on the grounds that it was starting the matter afresh, Ngige went on appeal.

The apeal court upheld the tribunal’s decision.

But this was invalidated by the recent Supreme Court decision on election petitions.

Akunyili’s case was the sixth to be struck out on that premise by the tribunal.

Ndi Anambra type of politics is actually worthy of emulation. No fracas, no killings just like we usually have from these people on the other side of the River Niger.

The two candidates are more than qualified for even the presidency of this country. Atimes I find it difficult to choose btw the two giants, one is a prof and the other Dr.

They both are great achievers and are both above an usual Nigerian politician or leader in every sense of it. I wish both goodluck.

Please let her accept defeat. They conducted an election twice and she lost. Let her relax another opportunity will come her way. She still has her good name in tact.

Many senatorial zones wish silently that they have tis kind of option on their ballot papers come next elections. Either way, Anambrarians are still the winners.

Biggest mumu of the year. Just like your wide mouthed Dora, you don't know when to attack and when to retreat.
Ibos, if you want to move forward, you have to stop the in fighting.

The Ibos are excellent in pulling down their most promising children. With his antecedents, does Ngige still deserve to be a councillor in Nigeria?

Re: Tribunal Strikes Out Akunyili/Ngige Case For Lack Of Jurisdiction by likethat(m): 8:00pm On Feb 21, 2012
Point of correction. He is Ngige of Africa. Please don't insult him again. The only Red Cap Chief in Anambra State. Aunty Dora go and ask Obj & Uba they lost out. I trust my people in Anambra even if the election is conducted again High Chief Dr. Chris Ngige will still win oooo. Aunty Prof. Dora you have disobey God by leaving NAFDAC instead of u to influence for the position of Minister of Health, you lied that God sent you to Senate. Senate ko, Shepe ni. I dey laugh ooooo. Do you think GEJ was happy with you by leaving him alone.

she was my favourite when she held sway at NAFDAC.At a point I began writing a movie script for her for production. But she began power drunk and loud-mouthed.I lost my respect for her since then. There was even a time she was disgraced at aso rock when she was sent back home.

I really wish we could have the both of them in the house at the same time. Only if other regions would be giving people like these two their mandates.
