This page also tells me how petty NL CEO's thinking is. To think he could be so cheap and nigerian in his thinking. Constantly putting on the frontpage (because he can) stories of a girl he's starting to admire. Talk about using public resources to further private agenda. Forget it, NL is a life on its own now and hardly subject to Seun's thinking!
This is the type of thinking that provides private access to state resources, such as we witness in our governors and presidents on today! Pity! undecided

@sauer: If you have a good story, send it to me. I'll put it on the home page right away. You need not be jealous. If Umari Ayim's stories were not really good, they would not have made the home page. We worked with her to pick the most marketable short stories in her collection (her stories are all great), and the response so far suggests that our judgement was not compromised by our admiration of her person. If you have good stories on marketable topics, send them to me. I will post them right away!

Really, like you really will put it on the home page right away! Try first lavishing lola.luv's stories on the first page, or the numerous other fine ones (poems as well) in the literature section. Lola.luv's find itself in the same genre as this stuff here, even if it doesn't immediately admit critical literary techniques, just as this one doesn't. Lola.luv's might in fact be better, who knows! I don't write no more, am an art critic. So critiques are the only things you'll get from me, not short stories or books of any kind.
And why else won't you get such responses!? How many of your readers really know what serious literature (and not some crappy nollywoodian stuff) is about!? Tell me! undecided

And just to add: if u've read short stories and you really know what short stories are. . . .if you really do. . . .you won't call that a "short story". Someone should back me up here!

sauer, you sound angry. Please calm down. As much as we will like for the site to be run according to our personal preferences, the fact remains that NL is Seun's property and he has the liberty to do with it as he pleases.
Even me sef, I picked some flaws in the story and I didn't even like it so much. (not that it's bad sha, I am just a censorous person).
Just bone matters and forget it.
Re: Kidnapped By A Very Nice & Handsome Man - Story By Umari Ayim by Nobody: 7:39pm On Apr 08, 2012
when u see some crappy literature trying to aspire to exalted seats, u can get angry. The gods of literature allow this grin
And to add: stop that thinking. NL is not Seun's property no more! if Seun for one second thinks it is, then NL has gotten (and will get) nowhere. I love this site and will like to believe it should compete with the likes of twitter, which is why I suggested some few days ago celebrities should be brought on here to shore up the site's ratings among people.
Twitter, fb, and other serious SN sites, btw, are moving away from being personal property in order to be more successful.

I doubt Seun is going to give up exclusive ownership of NL anytime soon. The status of powerful and famous that comes with owning a big site like this can be quite pleasant to have and that status starts to diminish somewhat when you decide to share with someone else.
Te he he grin.
Your celebrity idea makes sense though.

I believe he does.
Even if he does, it certainly doesn't help to dominate the site exclusively if he wants it to grow! As much as fb is not Zuckerberg's property, it still is somewhat. That's the kind of thing I meant!
Yeah, the celebrity thing will surely help NL. Let popular artists announce the release of their albums or of new songs here. Let them announce collabos with foreign acts there, so NL can make its own news (and not just go copy from some random internet site!) undecided
If seun has ears, let him hear!

The story is just some flurry tale about a girl who starts to fall in love with one of her kidnappers. It's the classic Stockholm syndrome, albeit occurring over no less than a few hours. The kidnapper in this tangle of love eventually surfaces at the girl's front door after a brief while upon her freedom, suggesting therefore a possible romance between the two afterwards. It's a story by some new writer called Umari Ayim, and Seun has posted it on here possibly because he admires her or her writing, but certainly least because he intends to draw more contributors to an already over-populated romance section.

To tell you the truth, I don't think the writer considered that a psychological condition could be responsible for her heroine's falling for her kidnapper. She was only writing a tale where a girl falls for her handsome kidnapper....hmmmn! I think she writes well, though. Just that this particular storyline isn't a new one. We've seen it in countless romance novels, movies and stuff....

Good observation. The writer never considered that. If she had, she could have readers feeling pity for the girl and not wonder. She would possibly create an all-together different feeling which could turn out more attractive than the over-flogged butterflies stirred by romance tales. What if she really desired to tell a simple tale as she has done? Well, to tell the truth, criminologists have argued that these scenarios (Stockholm syndrome) occur without much willful participation from the victim; yes, the victim, cos the subject often turns out to be a victim at the end of the day.
Plus, if she were a more matured writer, I bet the writing wouldn't take that course

On the claim that she writes pretty well, I must say it's no argument. She certainly does. But critics look beyond a writer's writing prowess and will only put focus on what she/he achieves with this.

I don't think there was a psychological condition that could push the lady to start falling for her kidnapper, only if she wants to do that to use it as a means of escape( moreso, in a physical world, not every lady would think to that end, their prayers would be how to escape or not to be killed). The write-up,was more about how feelings can grow into somthing else even when you are in a situation like Adas', And the feelings was more of a physical admiration which was kindled by the touch....

I am ashamed that nigerians are calling this long. Even the so-called enlightened community of internet users have decided not to acknowledge that knowledge and information is gotten from reading books not going for parties or looking at pictures but this is our plight. God help us.
The story is very good. The attention to how the female character feels and responds is commendable, the piecing together is near flawless, the reader can get the whole story without having to scroll up to check for information and the delivery and Use of english is impressive, someting a good story teller must learn. I cannot find anything wrong right now. I'd love to read more. Pls send anymore material to onwitjay@yahoo.com.
I can always reply. Thank you.

Seun, hope you are not seriously thinking about not publishing her stories any longer? Its seriously no body's business if you feel for her. I kindda enjoyed her stories-as well as lola luv.

If your aim is to promote young talents go for it. If its love for Umari, then I think you should but NL up for sale, lol.
