Beaf:

That question is frankly stup!d.

A cursory glance at the constitution will tell you that governors have the right to demand every last penny. Please educate yourselves before asking these funny questions.

I don't know why halfwits like you are still allowed to roam about on NL - even if the governors have a right to demand 'every last penny' does that include the 52.8% share of revenue that the FG receives?

A cursory glance at the constitution will tell you that the states do not collect the FG's share of revenue. The FG is just as capable of making savings out of its own share of the federation account as the states.

Next time attempt to apply your few remaining neurones to the act of thinking before hitting your keyboard.

As for the States being called 'greedy' for calling for the 'subsidy' not to be deducted from their allocations, I don't blame them!

Why continue contributing to a phantom subsidy that the FG cannot account for? When the FG cannot account for how much petrol was imported or sold, and how much it is subsidised, why should states pay?

The FG has shown itself as being incapable of managing its own finances, so it cannot be trusted with the 'savings' of Nigeria.

As for her question regarding states saving, Bayelsa State Governor has opened an 'savings account' for Bayelsa, crediting it with 2bn as an initial saving for a rainy day.

The same FG collects VAT largely from Lagos and spends it at will, yet wants to dictate how states spend their own revenue.

Govs Not against Sovereign Wealth Fund, Says Aliyu

Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, yesterday said state governors in the country were not against the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF), adding that their worries bothered on the implementation and management of the fund.

“Governors are not against the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF). What we are for is that whatever should be done should be done properly so that the money will not be siphoned. Contrary to reports that the governors are against the SWF, I want to state that we governors supported the fund but we are also saying that it should be managed properly so that the people can know how it is used,” he said.

Aliyu, who made this known at the Niger State Government House Minna, while playing host to the participants of the Senior Executive Course 34 of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) led by the Director-General, Professor Tijani Mohammed Bande, who were in the state for a local study tour, said they were worried about how the fund would be managed.

He further stated that though the SWF account was an illegal account, means should be devised to put enough money into the account and ensure adequate management of the fund.

He added that one reason governors were worried about the management of the fund was due to the controversies surrounding the misuse of the pension fund and excess crude oil account which were misused and siphoned adding that no government or individual has the right to dip its hands into the SWF.

Okonjo is no more a technocrat.
She has messed herself up in politicking.
Nigerians know already all she is saying now.
Their problem most time is that they assumed Nigerians do not know much.
Remember how Dora fooled herself with smelly lies she told to cover up Yaradua's ilness,
Iweala goofed on the biggest lies she told to Nigerians on Fuel subsidy.
I used to praise her departure from OBJ govt. because I see that as a credibility act.
Now, my respect for her is less than 0%. How she fell from being respectable.
In Nigeria context. She is respectable. Because most of us here worship money.
But in an environment where their value system is not money, then Okonjo becomes nothing more than we all are- you all know what every non-nigerian pictured of us whenever they got to know we are nigerian.
We have show at all level that we are not reliable.
That is why oshiomhole could be talking from both side of his mouth.
Remember even Rueben Abbati. That is who we are.
Okonjo is now one of our corrupt members or leaders whichever you like to make of it.
That is why the world can not entrust the World bank in her care even though she is the more qualified.
