There is no proof of any collabo with the FG in setting up the rice processing factory
, one idi-ot earlier claimed it is a federal govt project, stop peddling lies and trying to force fit the FG in to a success, they have consistently failed to achieve.

It is a joint FG and Lagos state project. The truth does not harm, bro.
We've seen this sort of lies a few time too many from ACN states (mostly Osun).

Telling the truth won't peel anyones skin, neither would it make Fashola any less of a governor.

Lagos State Governor Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) in company of the Nigerian minister of State for Agriculture, Mallam Bukar Tijani on Tuesday handed over the 20,000 metric tonnes Imota Rice Processing factory, with the Governor charging youths to roll up their sleeves to work on the farms being created by the Government.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for Agriculture, Mallam Bukar Tijani commended the present administration in Lagos for putting the state in the rice production map of the country with the rice mill factory.
He said if all states in Nigeria follow the footsteps of Lagos State, Nigeria will achieve the target for self sufficiency in food set by the President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan before the target year of 2015.
The Governor added that the Rice mill story started four years ago when he was sworn in to office and he was n informed that the rice production capacity of the state yearly is 30 hectares.
He added that through sustained efforts spread over two and half years, it was increased to 250 hectares, adding that government was also concerned about embarking upon strategic irrigation to keep the farm wet always.

“We resolved to do 500 hectares per annum but we were now told, if you do this, how do you process it?. So, we decided in 2011 to building this processing mill before we increase production so that there will be no wastages when we achieve increase production”.

But also we had a problem of yield per hectare. We are doing average of one ton per hectare and we want to go to at least two hectares and progress from there. So, in Araga, Badagry, we are doing a strategic irrigation intervention that will keep the field land wet all through the year with water to grow the rice. In addition we have also written to the minister of agric to give us land in the River Basin Authority. I am made to understand that that request is receiving favourable consideration”, the Governor stated.
The Governor charged all business minded Nigerians to look towards the prospect that exists with the rice that will be cultivated in Ogun State but transported to Lagos, adding that all those who are making okada riding a way of life now should think of embracing the business of driving farm trucks to convey the rice.

A solely Lagos project, yet the Minister of Agriculture in Nigeria showed up(note: Lagos has a state ministry of agriculture that could have easily handed this if it were a state only project)? Maybe it is a collaboration project. Don't know yet and so far it is clear from the comments here that no one is sure of that either. So will wait to confirm.

. .Finally some real answers to the question I asked earlier. I guess some of our journalists took time to get answers for us. Anyone who goes through this and the many OPINIONS(confused as fact) that have been shoved at us so far, will see that it pays to seek real answers from those who matter. grin

This is as Buka Tijani, Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development disclosed at the inauguration of the rice mill in Lagos that Nigeria’s need for rice which sadly is largely supported with importation, will hit five million metric tons by 2015.

Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola, commissioning the three projects which are all located in Ikorodu, said his administration is consciously building a sustainable economy around agriculture, and is ready to collaborate with the Federal Government, World Bank and the private sector in further raising the bar.

“We are building a sustainable economy around agriculture in Lagos, and we are determined to do more, collaborating with the Federal Government and the World Bank,” Fashola said, adding that it was high time jobless youths keyed into the government’s vision by engaging in sustainable and productive ventures on farm estates around Lagos.

Now, would you agree with me that there are too many lies coming from ACN states? They seem to have a knack for claiming FG projects (Aregbe's case is serial).
Fashola is innocent, but those flying around the place are liars.

He added that time for miscreants to reign in Lagos “is over. The time for wealth without work is over we have provided the framework for you to get your hands busy, get off the streets and go to the farm.

“We will give you farm land. I will give you the support. If you put your mind to it, there is prosperity. Our land is too green for us to be hungry. Our youths must be ready to work in the farms that we are creating.”

The governor reiterated the state government’s commitment towards reinvigorating its agricultural sector, noting that it “is only through such that the nation can summon its economic challenges. We are beginning to see progress and a clear path towards establishing a sustainable agriculture.”

According to Fashola, there was need for government at all levels to begin to consider investment through development of infrastructure, input, budgetary allocation and funding for farmers.

He said the establishment of the rice mill was a journey that started four years ago when it was discovered that the state was cultivating only 30 hectares of farm land per annum, saying it was double to 250 hectares within two years while it has a set target to increase production to 500 hectares.

He urged the Federal Government to release land in Ogun River Basin to enable it increase its production and meet the facility processing capacity while directing the state ministry of works and Infrastructure, energy and commerce and industry to ensure the development of good road network, constant power supply and improve infrastructure within the industrial estate.

Speaking at the forum, Tijani commended the state government for the development of the infrastructure which he described as government’s response in meeting the aspirations of the electorate.

He said governance “is all about responding to those who elected you. The development was in line with President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda of food security through improve agriculture in the country.

“We have to start to produce more rice, we cannot continue to depend on rice importation from countries such as Thailand and Indian, but we have to start now to produce what we can eat.

“Lagos was among the few states in Nigeria that is championing this course while assuring of the support of the Federal government to improve commercial agriculture. We will do more in Lagos when it comes to commercial activity to make food sufficient and improve our value chain.”

More information coming in continues to debunk the claims that the rice will be produce, or is currently being produced in Lagos. Matter of fact, this projects seems to be more in hopes that the Federal Government and the people will jump on the bandwagon to help increase production of rice in the Lagos/Ogun area, and help provide the raw materials for the plant to produce it's optimal 400,000 bags a year target.

Those who aren't on ground and doesn't know the workings of govt in reality should humbly shut up. I know of a road akpabio constructed but was commissioned by obj. Another was commission and rep of fg were present. Does that mean the road construction was both from fg and akpabio.
O yes, the minister was present as stated in the report but nothing either from the report or fashola or even the ministers mouth suggest it is dual. No one has brought any report to suggest such so u guys assuming are simply on ur own.

Till when we all see such a report that sugests dual responsibility, its still a lagos project 100%.

The Beneath should do the trick . . .

The Commissioner said the test run of the factory has been completed and the main product (well polished rice) compares favourably with the best quality rice from any part of the world and is estimated to produce between 350,000 and 400,000 bags of rice every year.

He said the Poultry estate is one of the five farm estates located in different parts of the state to bring self sufficiency in chicken production and is expected to produce about one million eggs and 600,000 live birds annually.

Our collaboration with the Federal Government and the World Bank in the Commercial Agricultural Development Projects (CADP) has continued on a fruitful path especially in the areas of improving the business environment for agriculture by assisting participating small and medium scale commercial farmers to the market”, Prince Lawal stated.

In his solidarity message, a member of the Presidential Committee on Agricultural Transformation, Mr Emanuel Ijewere commended the agricultural policy been embarked upon by the Lagos State Governor.

http://www.lagosagric.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=29:lagos-commissions-ultra-modern-farm-service-centre&catid=4:press-category&Itemid=7

In its effort to bring services closer to farmers and other Stakeholders in the state as well as trainning them in modern class room environment, the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has commissions an ultra modern Farm Service Centre at Oko-Oba Agege.

Speaking during the commissioning, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola said the farm service Center which is the first in the series is part of Government plan to decentralize Agricultural Services to farmers saying that it will be replicated in the five divisions of the state and that the center will become a one stop shop to help alleviate farmers problems thus saving them time and money.

while disclosing that the food security of the nation is threatened by rising food prices Fashola represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. adejoke Orelope-Adefulire said Nigeria was listed by World Bank as one of the countries with the highest domestic food price indrease among the 58 countries surveyed by the FAO.

“Food security being part of the cardinal programmes of the ten-point agenda of the present administration, is also an integral part of the Lagos State Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (LASEEDS) documents as well as the resolution of the Ehingbeti summit and the Millinium Development Goals (MDGs). It also tallies with the objectives of establishing the farm service center to train more people in sustainable food production”, Fashola reveals.

He called on all stakeholders to be united in the quest for food security and sustanabilty of agricultural production. He assures that the state government will not only strive to feed its populace but will also take giant strides in ensuring Lagos state produces atleast 25-30% of its food needs by the year 2025.

As part of the effort put in place to make the Agricultural Transformation Agenda a success, government has built a 20,000 metric tonnes per annum Rice Milling Plant at the Agro-Industrial Park, Imota to boost capacity of local rice production. “we have tremendously increase the hectarage rice plantationfrom 30ha to450ha and we are planning to increase production to 1000ha”. He added

Governor Fashola explained that government has delineated areas around Ikorodu, Epe and ibeju Lekki axis as cassava production, processing and marketting would be concentrated. This would promote employment, rural development and reduce poverty through the economics of cassava production. A modern processing plant to produce High Quality Cassava Flour (HQCF) has been processed for construction in the CPPB.

Delivering a welcome address at the occasion, Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperatives, Prince Gbolahan Lawal said the Farm Service Centre was conceived at the pressing need to expand the scope of support services to the farmers in a way that is consistent with how the state resolves problem confronting the state.

He said government remains totally dedicated towards the need to empower our farmers through knowledge impartation activities such as capacity building and trainning programmes but more specifically through farm service centre which would provide information and advice to farmers.

Bashorun disclosed that the Farm Servicem Centre is intended as a one-stop centre that will service farmers in all these areas including Enterpreneurial Trainning Services, sales of Agricultural input, provisions of market information, advisory services and climate change desk with meterology equipment.

Governor Fashola who spoke at the processing factory in Imota before he embarked upon a guided inspection of the rice factory said the time of miscreancy by some youths in Lagos State is over.

“The time for wealth without work is over. You must all understand that no nation prospers if it seeks wealth without work. This is one of the places where we can create wealth if we go back to the land and farm”.

“Our land is too green for us to be hungry. It is too green for us to export agric jobs outside the country. Go back to the land and the farms we are creating”, the Governor stated.

Governor Fashola who acknowledged the support and innovativeness of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture led by the Minister, Dr Akinwunmi Adeshina stated that for the present administration in Lagos, it believes once elections are over, the only task remaining is service to the people and hard work.
