the mistake that people on nairaland and nigeria as a whole make is that you all forget that fulani families have been victims of this violence, before every attack on birom, tiv villages, their was a attack on fulani livelihoods that has not gone unreported,
already on the minds of the people, herdsmen are the perpetrators, the whole story is not told, and i strongly believe this is the reason why their is no peace in the middle belt, the lack of honesty, the lack of transparency from the media, the same misinformation which is spread to the birom, tiv youths in plateau is the reason why violence is escalating, every fulani in the middle belt will defend himself from this enemy

Megabyts: Gov jang is d problem, remove him and peace will return.

Thank you very much. Muchos gracias. Merci beaucoup. I said this since 2008. He thinks that he can stamp authority by creating hatred between his people and Hausa/Fulanis. He is not a wise man and does not deserve to head an ethnic diverse State like Plateau.

Jang is not the problem - the problem is that we have collectively with no small help from the military regimes allowed fulanis to become a law unto themselves

nomads who do not hold themselves to the laws of the land and who hold their cows above everything

you see them blocking traffic, herding cows on runways, fighting farmers

they are another example of the unmitigated failure of Northern leaders, who seem content to allow the vast majority to wallow in the stone age

i even remember back in secondary school, we had no running water for close to two weeks because some eejit herdsman stripped some of the copper cables for the control panel to make some personal jewelry or some such

Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang has dragged the Federal Government to the Supreme Court for setting up a panel of inquiry to probe the November 28 sectarian riots that engulfed the state over the local government election in Jos North.
Over 300 people were reportedly killed in the riots, while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.
In a suit that seeks to properly define the nation’s federal system, Jang is asking the apex court for clarification on the power of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to institute a probe into the causes of the riots.
President Yar’Adua had last week set up an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to probe the crisis. He appointed Major-General Emmanuel Abisoye (rtd) as chairman of the panel.
Filed on behalf of the state, Jang invoked the original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court in matters between states and the Federal Government.
He asked the court to stop the President from constituting a panel of inquiry to sit or continue to sit as a body with power to inquire into the civil unrest that occurred in Jos on November 28, 2008.
After filing the suit, the state also wrote a letter to the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Michael Aondoakaa.
The letter entitled, “Demand for Respect for Rule of Law,” called on the AGF to advise the President to follow the path of rule of law, which he had made one of his seven-point agenda.
Jang said in the letter: “We have no doubt that upon reading this letter and the processes attached, you would, in your characteristic manner, find it the least service you owe to the rule of law to advise the defendants to tread the path of the rule of law and direct the chairman and members of the administrative panel mentioned above not to sit or function until the Supreme Court will have determined the case.”
Following the originating summons filed by his counsel, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the Attorney-General of the Federation is also joined in the suit.
In the suit, the governor is specifically asking the apex court to declare that Yar’Adua has no power under the constitution or the Tribunal of Inquiry Act, 1966 (now to be found in Cap T21 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria) to constitute a tribunal or appoint any person or group of persons by whatever name called to inquire into the civil unrest that occurred in Jos.
He further asked the court to hold that the power to constitute a tribunal to inquire into the civil unrest, which occurred in Plateau State in November, 2008 is a residual mater in respect of which only the state’s House of Assembly is competent to make law vide Section 4(7) of the 1999 Constitution.
Consequently, he asked the court to grant an injunction restraining the Federal Government from setting up a tribunal to inquire into the Jos crisis.
He also sought an injunction restraining the Federal Government and its agents from directing anyone or a body of persons from sitting or continuing to sit as a tribunal purporting to be acting under the Tribunal of Enquiry Act to inquire into the civil unrest or disturbance that occurred in Jos.
In an affidavit sworn to by the Director of Civil Litigation in the Plateau State Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Florence Lotben, and attached to the originating summons, the state said since Yar’Adua was not investigating any Federal Government employee, he had no power to poke his nose into a crisis involving residents of Jos North Local Government Area of the state.
Lotben said: “The right or power to conduct any inquiry into the said Jos crisis of 28th November 2008 belongs exclusively to the Plateau State Government as a residual matter.
“The act of the Federal Government in setting up the said administrative panel of inquiry into the said Jos crisis is calculated to usurp the constitutional power vested in the Plateau State Government for reasons best known to the Federal Government.”
Jang stated that Yar’Adua did not consult him before setting up the administrative panel even though the panel so set up would investigate events that took place within Jang’s domain and jurisdiction.
Pending the time the apex court will hear the originating summons, Fagbemi has filed a motion on notice seeking for an order preserving the res in the case by orders of interlocutory injunction restraining the Federal Government and its agents from further taking any steps capable of giving effect to the announcement by the Secretary to the Federal Government, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, that the commission of inquiry into the Jos crisis had been set up.
The lawyer, also in the interim, asked the court to stop the Federal Government from accepting the report of the recommendations of the commission and that if the recommendations had been accepted, to stop the Federal Government from acting on them.
Other members of the panel set up by the President are Mr. Festus Okoye, Ambassador G.B. Preware and Ambassador Fati Sa’ad Abubakar, while Alhaji Musa Shafi’l was appointed as Secretary.
The terms of reference of the panel among others are to look into the cause or causes of the crisis, identify those responsible for the crisis and make recommendations on how to avert future re-occurrence.

Honestly 90% of the problem in Plateau is the state government, is showing double standard, for instance if Birom attacked Hausa\Fulani is very rear for you to hear any statement from the government condemning it, but once Hausa/Fulani attached birom then you will hear noise from the state government and i feel the government in Plateau is encouraging Birom to be attacking people, and the felt to understand most of the people their legally own a house with proper papers from the government and you are asking him to leave the state, every one is aware sometime Gov Jang said, Fulani should leave Plateau state and people have not said anything about it.
Remember Muslim were attacked on eid day but up til today the Plateau but nobody from the state govt condemn the attacked, and i believe God have a reason of joining us together, so let us join hand in prayer so that God will deliver our enemies weather Muslim or christian

Please permit me to digress a little. The 2 legislators that died in a sprinting effort to escape the assassins died of exhaustion as their surviving colleague ( another legislator) narrated. This calls for fitness training for all politicians, especially senators and house of reps members . Their running power to escape the masses will be tested to the extreme, as things worsen in Nigeria's governance.

That a state Govt has failed does not warrant us to kill innocent citizens. Justifying violence by perfecting the blame game is wrong. We cannot create life, life is sacrosanct , let's not take it. One love.

Torkaka & Ibman have said everything I wanted to say. BH, Fulani herdsmen & religious riots in the north all have one aim which is to ISLAMIZE NIGERIA BY FORCE. They are working hand in hand. An advice to any one who has an ear is this: arm yourself for FG cannot protect you. RIP to the dead as the genocide continues.

torkaka:
no offense but i think you don't have an understanding of the real issues at hand.
the instability in plateau is in three folds;
1.indigeneship: hausas(not fulani) claiming rights to the land and wanting political relevance.
2.herdsmen/farmers: fulani nomads(not hausa) tresspassing and ravaging on lands farmed upon for cattle grazing, thereby instigating clashes with the local populace.
3.boko haram: islamic fanatics,(hausa, kanuri, igbirra, yoruba, chadiens, nigeriens, tuaregs),federal govt, northern politicians, secessionists and criminals. these ones throw bombs about to make a statement!

for number 1, our craze for the creation of more local govts and states gave birth to it.
for number 2,the inability of the fulani herdsman to recognise govt authority,international/national boundaries and land ownership gave birth to the problem.
for number 3, islamic bigots want sharia and total elimination of anything western in nigeria, federal govt initially used bombings to garner sympathy votes and to mirror certain northern politicians as not wanting the status quo to change, northern politicians using bokoharam as a negotiation tool for 2015 elections(similar to what niger delta militants did for jona),secessionists trying to use the bombing in order to put the north-south debate flames burning and finally criminals who are using bokoharam to have a field day robbing! afterall if you rob a place in the north, you simply throw a bomb after the robbery and bokoharam is blamed!
Mr. Man, please quickly remove Yoruba from that your brother Boko Haram group, who told you Yoruba are cannibals like your tribe? South West is the most peaceful part of Nigeria, nobody can deny that.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters, here is some food for thought. I accidentally stumbled on this information only today. If this is true, Nigeria is definitely in grave danger. All those calling for GEJ's head may be falling into a long planned trap. Please read the information here carefully:http://newsrescue.com/boko-haram-a-cia-covert-operation-americas-destabilization-plots-against-nigeria-greenwhite-coalition/#ixzz1yUDFebna. May the Almighty God save Nigeria from its friendly enemies in Jesus name, Amen

The beroms go back to eat the fulani cattle meat after the genocide takes a break, how then do they think they would profer a permanent solution. Get rid of the nomadic farming, encourage the berom youths financially and otherwise, so they can rare cattles in a modern and effective way. In no time, i tell u the fulanis will have no choice but to relocate from plateau state.

Its unfortunate that most times, TRAVELLERS just passing through these troubled areas are caught-up in the crises and killed. After sometime, the two warring tribes will feel the urge to end the blood letting and then dialogue. Most of us cannot make them see reasons to dialogue.
Finally, if there is any Jos Fulani man here, pls publish your own pictures of victims so we can objectively see your side of the stories. The Olus and Chukwus of the south only add salt to our injuries as Northerners. May God protect all innocents, guide erring ones and punish the unrepentant killers of any tribe or religion.

And when Christians attack Muslims? Attempt to Christianize Nigeria? Why are other parts of the North that has both religions at peace? Why should a Governor, whose tribe is fighting sue the FG for setting up a panel of enquiry? Why did these fights not happen during military regimes? Why Why Why and many Whys, whose answer is never found in Punch, Guardian, Thisday and Sun newspapers. You need to be sure with all sincerity on what you say. Arm yourself, do ethnic cleansing if you like, but never move around without arms cos we northern muslims are afraid of engaging Fulanis in any feud like this! Wait a minute, are you a northerner or from Plateau? I am a Northerner but not from Plateau. I only pray for peace to return to Plateau! Say what is good or keep quite!
