Crime / The Overbearingness Of Anambra On Essential Workers & The Voices Of Bad Advisers by badohemmy(m): 8:39am On May 26, 2020
Yes, it happened again, Anambra state government did the unthinkable. This time it was not only illegal but also a slap in the face of the people of Delta State. If it was in the olden days, this would definitely count as an act of war.

This makes you wonder: what was the Anambra state government led by his Excellency Gov. Willy Obiano thinking? What were those supposed to be advising him thinking? Does that mean that all his advisers were bad or that the bad ones outnumbered the few good ones?

When news broke that the Anambra state government had built a wall on Niger bridge, it sounded so funny, unrealistic, and indeed a photoshopped thinking. However when report emerged from Dr. Ruth Nkeaka (with photo/video evidence) showing the gate built by another state in Delta territory, it stopped being funny.

Why will a state government sanction the building of a gate in another state’s territory if it is not in search of trouble? The good news was that the Taskforce set up by His Excellency, Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa ably led by Hon. Innocent Esewezie, the Oshimili South Covid-19 Border Enforcement Taskforce was on hand to demolish the illegal gate built by the Anambra government. And as if some prophet told them that the gate was the cure to CoronaVirus, the gate was moved from Delta’s end of the Niger-Bridge to the Anambra end.

Some people need education on the agreement reached on interstate movement, especially when it concerns essential workers. Tankers and truck drivers caused a gridlock stretching past Koka junction, Asaba. Such can not be allowed in the future. Closing states to essential workers is illegal and should be treated as such. It will be surprising if Delta State Government do not seek redress in a court of competent jurisdiction.

Even the caretaker became calmer, whether it was fear or something else remains to be seen, but he definitely became more humble.
"As you wear bulletproof, you forget say your partner na naked bitch?" GentleLion asked Baroni as he stared at him eyeball to eyeball!

Chapter 55

The Resolution

Eye for eye, that's was what played out at Viva fast food that day. Baroni who usually was a hot headed human became as cold as ice cream. He became so calm that he didn't utter a word or make any sudden moves. The caretaker knew that Badoh was naked. He didn't want to lose the kid, definitely not today, definitely not under his watch. That's why he became loyal. He didn't like it, but he had very little choice.
Silence took over the hall. Nobody said a word as GentleLion continued to smile. He was always the perfect chess player, always three steps ahead of his opponents. He stepped out of the table and stood among his peer, Baroni. He stared him down and smiled some more. "Easy," he thought. They are always easy to get.
Tunde did not understand why GentleLion asked him to point the gun at Badoh. Of course he understood that it made the reckless guy calm but knowing that Badoh was his brother made it surprising. "How will he ask me to point a gun at his kid brother when he should be the one protecting him?" He thought to himself. He didn't know the answer but he simply complied. Over the years he has come to understand GentleLion, and there's a popular saying among their clique which is "Apostle Sam knows best!" Apostle Sam was Samson's prophetic name, while GentleLion was his bush name.
Ken was the most confused person in the world. He could remember not long ago how he was busy condemning Badoh for not showing up on time as agreed, but now he suddenly wished Badoh had not come at all. Seeing a gun pointed at his best friend took away his power of speech. He wanted to beg his boss, but only his hands did the begging as his voice seemed lost. He joined his hands together in prayer and rubbed them gently in silent pleading to GentleLion who seemed to be in a "world of his own" like Westlife.
All this while, in between the silence, in between the quietness, all GentleLion could think about was that he had confirmed what he always wanted to know. He wanted to know if he could trust Baroni, if he could trust him with his little brother, if he could entrust him with bigger responsibility. Now he seemed sure, he had his answer. He tapped Tunde, collected the gun from him, raised it to Badoh's head as Badoh raised his hands higher and shouted, "ah bros! Please nau! If it is Vivian I have totally removed my hands!" He cried closing his eyes and saying his last prayers. Badoh did not know what to think. He didn't see any reason why his brother would want to hurt him except for what Vivian told him. He could remember that Viv had warned him in very clear words about not letting Samson know about their affair. He didn't know it was this serious. If only he knew he would have stayed away from that she-devil.
Just when Baroni, Badoh, Ken and Efe expected the worst, Samson the GentleLion started laughing. He pulled the gun away from his brother and returned to his sit smiling.
"Nnabundoh, so you believe that I will kill you abi? This my guy funny die." He said as he handed the gun to Tunde and asked him to put it away. That was when Tunde understood the irony of it all. In his mind he was like: "so na gun this man de use pull prank on his brother?" He soon joined GentleLion in laughing as he put the gun away.
One person who did not understand the whole thing was Baroni. The look in his eyes demanded some kind of explanation which he wasn't getting yet. Same thing could be said of Ken who looked loss.
Badoh soon became more relaxed and began to laugh too. He always knew his brother was crazy, he just didn't expect him to take it to a whole new level. He pulled out a chair and joined his brother's table. He urged Baroni to join up but he was initially reluctant. He was only beginning to put 2 + 2 together. "So this Macho Man na your brother?" Baroni finally spoke as he pulled a chair and joined beside Ken and GentleLion.
"Yes, na my elder brother. He senior somebody before me," Badoh answered.
Ken still looking surprised chipped in: "na gun una take dey play for una house?" He asked innocently as they all burst into a loud laughter which eased up the tension in the placed. Just a few minutes ago it looked like there was going to be a funeral, or bloodbath. But suddenly, everyone knew their place. Everyone knew who was in charge, and everyone knew who the winner would be if this was a game.
"So, wetin I do to deserve this visit from you?" GentleLion asked even if they were all in the spot he wanted them to be. He knew how to operate people and make them believe they were in charge, but that could not be furthest from the truth.
When the biggest meat in a gathering asks a question, it is only fair that the next biggest man capable of answering the question give an answer, so the Caretaker spoke next.
"Ken na my tenant. And I hear say he fit dey trouble, so based on my position as Caretaker, I go must respond to make sure say everything dey okay. I believe say even if mattaz dey ground, there must be a way to take settle am make everybody dey satisfied."
"Well, I no understand, Ken and myself no get mattaz nau. Abi Ken?" Sam asked Kennedy who nodded almost immediately.
GentleLion continued, "Ken and myself dey in total agreement. More like, we really good so I surprise really." He said.
"As in no problem?" Badoh asked quietly. He had been silently following the unfolding event since he took his place on the table of greatness. He was surprised that they heard him as he was only thinking to himself.
"No problem at all at all, abi you want problem? I get enough to go round?" GentleLion asked intimidatingly.
"No o, no problem. Thank you bros." Badoh responded. He found it had to believe, but he had to believe based on fear. Who was he to doubt? He thought to himself. Ken tried to show that he was excited, but there was this feeling he emitted that kinda gave him away. You could not really believe that he was saying the truth, but Ken continued to insist that he was fine and even feigned a smiley face which made the Caretaker dismiss his doubts. All he did was thank GentleLion for his benevolence.
"We all na one na. But I go like make me and you talk because I go need your assistance." Sam told Baroni. Baroni did not argue. A rapport would hurt nobody. "No wahala baba" here said.
"Oya, Ken time done reach for you to grow up and be a man. I know say you go make me proud. Make you and your friend, that one wey bend down for that corner - come de go." GentleLion told same Ken who began to stand up immediately, he shook hands with GentleLion, Badoh and Baroni, before moving towards Efe and pulling him up. They waved and walked out of the fast food fast without any question or comment.
"Shey you know say you dey f*ck up?" GentleLion said after turning to Badoh. Badoh knew he messed up more than once, he made his relationship with Viv too public, he also tried to spar with his elder brother, not just any brother but brother Samson.
"Brother no vex nau. Na me ooo. Abeg." Badoh begged his brother.
"Me and you get serious talk. Make you wait for one corner make I talk to this bros finish." He said to Badoh who stood up and went deep down into the Hall.
GentleLion spoke to Baroni about his idea of working with him on a multiple of front. They were very cordial in their conversation and within 10 minutes they had concluded on the terms of condition. They both stood up, shaked hands while Baroni left.
Badoh was not comfortable with being left behind but he swallowed it as he joined Sam's table. He did not know what the talk with his brother was all about. But he exercised patience.
"Bros, I hope I no dey trouble?" He asked him?
To his greatest surprise GentleLion simply smiled, and he smiled some extra.
"We get plenty things to talk about," Samson said.

* * *
Badoh had a long, eye-opening conversation with his brother that day. They spoke about everything and everyone, cultism, school, Vivian, Kennedy, family, and even about impending storm that seemed to be gathering.
Badoh did not know much but he now knew more than he used to. For instance, he knew why Vivian warned him against letting his brother know about their sexual encounter. He also understand that being a one man soldier was there best thing that could happen to him, because the moment he joins cult, according to his brother, his "freedom becomes leveraged".
The things Badoh learnt that day where invaluable. As he went back to his lodge after their long convo, he knew today was a win win win for everybody.
He went on mini drink shopping and bought a couple of drink, magic moment, vino tinto (red wine), punch and Sprite.
As he arrived the hostel he went through the back gate, there was smoke everywhere, while every where seemed so quiet.
"What's going on," Badoh wondered to himself.

"Wetin de xup? Who put fire for your body?" Sam asked Ken after observing his uneasiness.
"Boss, Gentle, you know say you na my Oga. I wan beg you, abeg, I no wan do again. Abeg my boss. Give me freedom." Ken pleaded to Samson who was all smiles. He knew something was up with his boy, especially since his brother found out he was working for him. He just smiled some more.
"My guy, I know, I know say hand don touch you. Tell me who get the hand make I cut am give dog chop," GentleLion said in a more serious voice.

Chapter 54

D-Day Of Reconning (III)

"E never reach like that alpha. All I want na to walk my own part, take responsibility for my life going forward." Ken said.
He looked at GentleLion but he wasn't smiling, worse of all, he didn't say anything to him. Ken became even more uncomfortable. He wondered were he got the boldness to even talk in the first place. GentleLion picked up his glass cup containing Heineken, held it up to his face for a while before gulping what's left of the content. He dropped the glass and passed his index finger on top of the round glass rubbing it slowly.
The silence between them grew louder until a disturbed Ken decided to break the quietness, he tried to speak, but he was still in his first few words when Sam hushed him.
"I protect you from mad men, I sulk vampires blood because of your maraz, I even facilitate your freedom from sanko, take care of your upkeep, make sure you get admission and go school, even though you no believe say e possible again for your life, I never complain one day about how all these take dey inconvenience me, but your morale ripe reach to come my front come yearn me dirty opata, say..." Sam was still talking when Ken jumped in.
"Bros no vex, I ..." Ken had started to talk but the moment his gaze met that of GentleLion he kept mum and looked down. There was a popular saying in Igbo Language that when translated to English loosely means "if eyes were guns'', GentleLion would have shot Ken dead" long before he finished the shit he was excreting.
Ken kept mute, he did not look up at his boss again, he instead looked down at the table and floor. He convinced himself that he had bleeped up. "What was I thinking?" He thought to himself. When he knew that Sam had been his benefactor for years why did he listen to Badoh he had wondered. Worst of all, nobody ever knew what was in the mind of GentleLion. He could have him drilled today or any day and nobody could save him, not even his supposed best friend could do anything about it. As he thought about the things Sam said, and all the times he had helped or protected him, starting from Karakuta republic where they met for the first time, tears began to flow from his eyes. And like our Lord Jesus in the shortest verse of the Bible, "He wept".
GentleLion was disappointed with Ken big time. He had his own plan for him. He was supposed to play a major role in his empire, but here he was listening to Ken talk about divorce, same Ken he was sure wouldn't survive a month without his input. He was sure though that that was what the game's all about. You win some, you lose some. One thing was sure, he "liked the boy a bit too much". Ken was GentleLion's first son. It was so unfortunate, loyalty had become a very rare commodity, only a few could afford it. This boy could not have come to this decision alone. The boss in the room played his next step in his head.
"Ken!" Samson called him in a voice so thick it was hardly audible.
"Yes boss," Ken answered without looking up.
"Come-on clean your tears, why you dey cry like woman?" GentleLion said to Ken as his voice softened a bit. He hated seeing him in tears. He could recall many years ago when he first met Ken at the Ogwashi-Uku Prison, he was in a pool of his tears, that day his heart broke. It was that day Ken's fight became his own.
"No boss, No vex, abeg baba, no vex." Ken pleaded as he cried GentleLion a river. Now he has suddenly become sure that saying the things he said was a very bad idea.
"Keep quiet jaré," GentleLion hushed him, he brought out his white handkerchief and handed it over to Ken urging him to dry his tears. "I just weak. Your Martha weak me". He stared at Ken for a short while and continued.
"I go grant you your wish." GentleLion said to Ken who could not believe any word his ears tell him. Ken suddenly begins to feel elated. The rapid spike in his mood was obvious even to Efe who just happens to have been confined to one corner. Efe had been worried sick, he had tagged along his friend to help but seeing where he was squeezed into he knew he inspired absolutely no confidence. His own mood soon gallops as he heard Ken ask GentleLion, "Boss, you go grant my wish?"
"Yes. Although I know say you no think am well before you talk am, nevertheless, I go grant am". GentleLion said to him.
An excited Ken began to sing praises of GentleLion. GentleLion simply sat in his position sipping his drink gently. "Wetin guy man go do dey e skull," he thought to himself.
"Chairman, boss of life. Minus you na you go still remain. You too much, Tualé Baba." Ken sang with his two hands raised. He could not contain his excitement. He just wanted to tell the good news to somebody, Badoh perhaps. The thought of Badoh made him wonder where the h*ll that son of a gun is. The arrangement has been betrayed Ken thought. They were supposed to be only 5 minutes behind, its been around 15 minutes since he arrived here with Efe.
"Like I talk before, you no think am well before you spit am. Even till now you never still think am well." GentleLion said curtly. He had his elbows on the table while his palms hugged, with his fingers interlocked. He observed Ken and saw the excitement he felt jump out of him.
"Boss, how... How you mean?" Ken stammered.
"I go explain," GentleLion said with a sly smile pasted across his face. He continued, "make we reason am first, like say you get freedom wetin go come happen? See as me take understand am: e mean say I go stop to dey pay your school fees, e mean say no more house rent money,Poof! textbook nko? Gone. You will have to bleeping fend for yourself which you obviously can't right now. Like I talk before, I no say you no think this move well but e don be." GentleLion said to Ken calmly.
With every word that came from his benefactor he soon realizes the gravity of task that will lie in front of him if Samson goes ahead to release him like Tiwa Savaged her manager and husband. He still had the option of apologizing and pretending like today never happened, but a sudden emotion came upon him. It was the kind of energy that makes one a hero like Maria Carey sang. Instead of weeping like his initial instinct had directed, he instead pulled himself together and said, "boss, you know say I no fit do this without your mentorship. Na you be the mentor I get and also my papal for street." Ken said. He needed to work this out for good, hopefully, GentleLion would forget his transgression. But GentleLion was in no mood to hand in favours, he was sure he was cutting Ken lose. It was not for revenge over his betrayal as many would perceive it, it was simply because he always knew Ken would make it big. When Ken put his mind to something, his focus is unparalleled. That was how he became so good in driving from a young age, that was how he became good with numbers, he paid attention in full. GentleLion's intention had been to groom Ken into making money for him, he was not just a son but an investment which he expected to begin to yield fruit in about three years time.
"Baba, if you no fend for me, who go do am na Alpha?" Ken pleaded. He is becoming disappointed with the mission he had chosen. Just when he thought it would be his last session in school, Sam said: "But... There might be a way to keep you in school but there is a condition attached to it." He said to Ken who readily told him that he will accept any condition as long as the opportunity to go to school remained Sacrosanct.
GentleLion outlined a plan for him. He told Ken that he would pay for his school fees and house rent in the upcoming session which would be his year two, then in year three only his school fees, it was a two year plan. He asked Ken to prepare to learn a trade because starting from next session he would have to feed himself in school. He recommended to Ken barbing because he believe it was something be could learn within a couple of months.
When GentleLion was done with his recommendation, Ken just watched without saying a word. As the information he consumed sunk in his mind began to process what his benefactor had said. It meant that he would get no more pocket money, it also meant his classmates would use it to mock him. He could not say anything, he just contemplated the reverse, at least he would have a house to live next session. He was still in deep thought when Sam said:
"And I have not given you my condition yet, so don't be sad." Sam told Ken with a bit of smile stuck in his face. Ken could not believe his ears. He discovered his mouth was open when Sam used his index finger to draw a circle in the air right in front of his mouth.
"Should I give you my condition?" He asked Ken who simply nodded. Sam pulled his head close and whispered something to Ken. Whatever was said wasn't pleasant because Ken seemed devastated.
Ken had a sad face, while GentleLion had a smile on his face. They were still in silent when Tunde, Sam's right hand man moved swiftly to the door and blocked it when he noticed some people were about to enter the eatery.
"Go back, we don close." Tunde said.
"Who you be to close my town?" Baroni queries Tunde. But Tunde refused to give way which forced Baroni to shove him on the chest as he moved inside with Badoh tagging along behind him.
In a swift reaction, Tunde pulled out a gun and pointed and pointed it at him. But funny enough, the caretaker was unshaken. He smiled at him and moved closer to the gun. He moved so close until his chest touched the tip of the gun.
"Guy, if you want to shoot shoot don't think. But wetin go happen when e no enter?" Baroni asked Tunde who was fuming in anger.
As this all played out at Viva Fast-food, Sam who had been watching with keen interest said his first word.
"Idiagbon," GentleLion called out to Tunde, "Point the gun at his partner," he ordered as Tunde shifted the nozzle to Badoh whose mind skipped many times before he died.
As soon as the gun was pointed at Badoh, he raised his hands up. Suddenly, he became afraid to die. Even the caretaker became calmer, whether it was fear or something else remains to be seen, but he definitely became more humble.
"As you wear bulletproof, you forget say your partner na naked bitch?" GentleLion asked Baroni as he stared at him eyeball to eyeball!

Chapter 53

D-Day Of Reconning (II)

Badoh tried to be as calculating as his brother Samson, the difference was that his brother controlled all aspect of his life, including women. In Badoh's case, that was too much to ask for. He controlled his ranging hormones better before now, but since he tasted the forbidden fruit, it's been a difficult, often time, impossible task. GentleLion sometimes would stay without a girlfriend, woman or sexual entity more than a year and not feel it, it was something he had to learn for his safety because lots of men have fallen because their hormonal needs betrayed them.
After listening to Ken talk expressly about his brother, he felt more disappointed at his friend. The things he had told GentleLion, even the ones he felt were insignificant, all seemed to matter now. The most annoying was that Ken told him about his relationship with Vivian, something she warned against during her shot stint with him. Ken also told Sam in detail about the fight he had with the grumpy guy. In fact Ken explained that his brother was interested in all aspects of his life and so he was generous in the information he gave.
Badoh noticed that Ken did not know that he was a brother to GentleLion, he revealed that truth to him but explained that there was little or no chance that they could still be close like before. Ken was a bit heartbroken. He had carried out his assignments with no questions asked, now he wished he could turn back the hands of time. He wondered why GentleLion would ask him to watch his brother and report back.
Efe who observed almost silently took centre stage for the first time. He tried to convince Badoh to forgive his guy but Badoh cleared him that he could not be loyal to someone who's loyalty slept with someone else. He insisted that the only condition that would allow him accept Ken was if Ken publicly denounced his dependence on Samson, and that entails telling him to get himself a new Dogg, or in other words: "go f*ck yourself". Surprisingly, Ken accepted the proposal, he would do anything to earn the forgiveness of Badoh.
Badoh pleaded with Ken not to reveal his address to GentleLion, he didn't want him badging in on his house and shattering the small reputation he had built over the outgoing semester. Ken agreed not to tell Samson, for good measure he told him that he was expecting GentleLion in school by mid next week when exam was already started. That information was as vital as any in the intelligence world. Now Badoh knew something his brother did not know that he knows. All he had to do was prepare. And he was going to need the help of many to surprise his brother who always sees things coming from afar.
Before he left their room, Efe made Badoh promise to forgive Ken if he helps clean up the mess, to which he agreed.

* * *

When the D-Day arrived from its long journey, everything was set. Sitting at the backyard with Badoh was Ken, the Carpenter and of course Baroni who had a stick of weed in between his fingers, while the former wrapped fresh one. The strong sweet smell of Skunk caressed the nose of even those who did not smoke. The plan had already been hashed, it wasn't simple at all. One thing Badoh knew for sure was that GentleLion was meticulous, he planned every part of his life up to the tiniest details, so the plan is to surprise and wobble his laid out plans.

RING RING!!! RING RING!!!

Ken's phone rang and the caller was GentleLion, he look away from the phone screen and at Badoh who nodded his head to ask him to pick.
"Hello!" Ken's voice penetrated the mouthpiece. His voice was shaky, knowing what to say did not make saying it any easier. After speaking with the caller, he told them what he said.
"He wants to meet, he's at Viva." He said.
"Alright, take Efe with you. We'll join you in 10 minutes. Remember what we discussed, it all ends today." Badoh said.
Ken with all his qualities and boldness was visibly shaken. He sat up from the long bench and stretched like an athlete. Then he collected the freshly wrapped SK the Carpenter just lit and took a long drag. He inhaled deeply before pouring the thick smoke out of his mouth. He watched the smoke mix with air as it gradually disappeared. He took another drag, a shorter one this time then handed the stick of SK back to the Carpenter.
They all watched him blow out the smoke in his mouth as he entered the hostel through the back door and disappeared.
It was a matter of all fingers crossed as they all sat patiently. Badoh occasionally checked the time. He had calculated walking to Viva fast food and bar and it was less than 5 minutes, although it depends on how fast you walk. He expected his brother to take his time in talking to his young protege, that's why he wasn't going inside the agreed 10 minutes, he would delay it by a further 10 or 20 minutes.

Ken sat opposite GentleLion, while Mike sat beside him. Efe himself was made to sit close to the kitchen door with the express order of not turning back, ever. GentleLion ignored Ken and spoke more with Mike. They spoke in igbo dialect briefly before Mike stood up and headed for the reception where he paid for the food and soft drink on their table. After paying Mike left without goodbyes. GentleLion just followed him with his eyes and smiled.
"How e dey be?" He asked Ken.
"Everything fine senior. This one you come my school na wetin dey play?" Ken said as he tried to create a conversation with the hope that it will cover up his fidgeting, but Sam was an old Deltan.

Chapter 52

D-DAY Of Reconning (I)

"Lie? When?" Badoh asked not understanding where the question was coming from. He does not tell lies so hearing her accusation made him feel bad.
"You made me believe that you had never done this before, but that's not what just happened now suggest," she finally said in teary voice after a brief silence.
Badoh tried to say something but his words got lost on its way out of his mouth, he tried to recall what had happened but could not find any part of their conversation where he had told her that he had not done this before. He then accused her of being a Seductress pointing out that he never wanted this, neither did he mention at any point that he was a virgin like she had suggested. When he finished talking he ignored her as his focus was back on his problems which would need handling. He laid on the bed beside her facing the ceiling. His mind raced at hundred miles an hour from Ken to Gentlelion to Viv.
After a long silence, Badoh was dragged back to the reality of the now. Low sobs from Blessing tapped into his consciousness forcing him to turn to face her. He soon discovered that she was crying. All her face was soaked in tears. He became worried suddenly. He tried to find out what the problem was but the sooner he pulled closer to her the more her teary flow increased.
"What is the problem?" He finally asked. "Why are you crying B?" He added.
But her focus did not shift from her sobs, instead she upgraded it to cries of plenty sadness.
"Which kind wahala be this?" Badoh asked himself mentally. He became more confused than ever. How did they go from "harder, faster" to this? He wondered. He sighed and sat up on the bed. Then he pulled her closer placing her head on his lap. He consoled her sincerely like he cared for her and allowed her sobs to die a natural death. When she had stopped crying, he said "now will you tell me what the problem is? Don't tell me you are crying because your Bakkassi enjoyed my Penisulla?" He joked squeezing her b00bs lightly thereby making her to giggle.
"Leave me jor, bad boy." She said in between tears and smile.
He urged her to talk to him freely about why she wasted her tears. She tried to hold back her words but eventually she started talking. She told him how she has been squatting with somebody (her roommate) because she could not afford raising money for her rent. She said she had paid half of the agreed price but could not complete the balance of the rent. To her surprise, her roomie brought another girl to the room who she claimed was her sister and since then they've made her life a living hell. She poured her heart out to him as he listened quietly.
When she was done, Badoh ran his palm across her face, he wiped her tears then cleared his throat to speak. He advised her to find her own place by the time the next semester came around the corner promising to support her anyway he could. She let out a half-hearted smile but still sobbed little by little. That was when Badoh made a mistake unintentionally. He innocently asked her if she would like to stay with him until after the exam and expected her to decline like he was taught to when offered something as a child, but to his surprise, smile enveloped Blessing as she sprang up from the bed.
"Yes, thank you thank you thank you, you're a darling!" She said as she squeezed him into a hug.
His mouth was agape. He wanted to clear her that he was only joking but seeing how happy she was made him have a second thought. He did not want to be the one that murdered Joy, her joy that seemed to know no bounds. He was forced to manufacture a smile and put on his lips, if only Blessing was sincere she would have seen that the smile was not genuine, but she had chosen to be selfish at that point and cared less about how he felt. She walked round the room, admiring every corner like a young aristo girl her rich sugar daddy just handed the keys of a duplex to in a Nigerian movie.
Badoh wondered how he had been so careless, he should have seen that she was desperate, but he allowed her sweet "Kpormor" rub on his sense of reasoning. "What will be will be," he thought as he dragged himself out of the bed, he had gotten tired of staring at the nude body running around his room. He dressed up, excused himself and left the room. He had pressing needs and needed to address them.
Holding the metal rail, he managed to drag his tired self to Ken's room. He knocked as Efe came out shouting.
"Merry Christmas everybody o. Today na God birthday," Efe said all smiles.
Badoh did not like it because it drew the attention of a couple of neighbours who took the opportunity to cluster.
"You don finally forgive us?" One of them asked Badoh.
"This one na Thanksgiving things, shoooo, your vex too long o." Christy said stepping out from Ken's room to greet Badoh who was still standing by the door with about 3 other neighbours.
"We don dey plan family meeting for your head before," another guy said.
"No mind me, I just gat clear my head," Badoh finally said as they shook hands and exchanged pleasantries.
Efe insisted that he said that he had forgiven the lodge but Badoh was like "there's nothing to forgive," but Efe did not agree with him. Christy supported Efe's notion that he must forgive them which he reluctantly succumbed to. Personally he was supprised seeing Christy at Ken's considering her room was about 5 minutes away from there. He wondered who attracted her like butterfly to flower but allowed that line of thinking evaporate.
Christy left the room as well as the other lodge mates. When Badoh entered the room, he saw Ken sitting on the bed. He approached him and told him that they needed to talk. He tried in vain to tell Efe to excuse them but Efe went deaf on him. Efe told Badoh that he was not leaving the room unless Badoh came with a gun. Badoh could only stare at Efe, the confidence in him seemed to have blossomed in his absence. He simply smiled and pulled out the plastic chair from underneath the table to sit. One other thing he noticed for sure was that the uneasiness which had characterized the roommates relationship was gone. Efe seemed relaxed as he laid on the bed, same bed that Ken was sitting on, uh!
Well, back to the matter he said, "let's talk about gentlelion," Badoh said to Ken. "Tell me everything you told him about me, don't leave anything out," Badoh emphasized as he positioned himself to listen.

Chapter 51

Stop It, I Like It!

After pushing the curtain aside, Badoh stopped Blessing from coming inside, surprise enveloped her face as she said; "Are you stopping me from entering your room?"
"Not that, off your shoes for here is a holy ground." He said to her.
She intended to protest but opted against it when himself took off his and carried it with his hand into the room. She followed suit. Blessing stood in the centre of the room as she looked around. The room had so much space, something she needed in her life at that moment. She noticed that he had very few properties. Apart from his basket stand, TV stand, foam and box of clothes - what adorned the room most was the bright red rug which she could feel from underneath her feet. As the soft fabric grazed through her flesh like herdsmen on benue farms, she began to have a better understanding of why he said no shoes. Such clean rug is not maintained by messing it up.
Badoh observed her as her eyes darted around the room. He let her be and instead proceeded to take of his clothes. After removing his shirt and boxers, he walked back to Blessing who was still standing and staring at everything.
"Do you have any plan to sit down today? Because if you are waiting for me to ask you to like a gentleman then you are sitting on a long thing," he teased her. She simply smiled and proceeded to sit on the edge of the bed.
"Your place is beautiful," she said.
"Thank you! I'm hungry. I'm making noodles, are you interested?" He asked her and she nodded. He went to the kitchen and cooked three Chikki Noddles, as well as boiling 2 eggs which he unshelled and placed on the sides of the plate containing the noodles. They ate not to their full, but enough to carry them till there was something else to eat.
Blessing was pleased with how Badoh served her. He had cooked, served them, ate slowly like a gentleman so she could catch up because the noodles was hot, cleared the plate, washed them and at every turn she had suggested that she helped him but he would decline. She felt like a queen, such guys don't exist, except they are looking for something. But the young man had made no indication that he was after something. He's been respecting himself. In fact, it's seemed like she was the one after something and he's been resisting.
"Are you a virgin?" She asked Badoh when they settled in the bed. She was a bit disappointed because other guys would already be making moves but he's just calm.
"How do you jump from discussing Mrs Linda to are you a virgin?" Badoh asked her.
"Because you are behaving like a virgin," she said to him.
"How does a virgin behave?" He asked her turning his face away like he was shy. She didn't say anything. She concluded that she had given him enough clues. It was time to take charge. This was an opportunity for her to spoil somebody's child, she thought. She moved closer to him and used her hand to turn her head over so he would face her. She then placed a soft kiss on his lips. She noticed that he pulled back a little.
"Have you not done this before?" She asked him softly.
"I, I, I..." Badoh stammered.
"Ssshh!" She hushed him placing a finger on his lips. "It's okay. I'll teach you how to. Just relax." She said as she started to kiss him again. She drew him to herself as she kissed him deeply. Badoh kissed her back this time but continued to act like an amateur. Blessing helped him take off his singlet after which she unhooked her bra.
The door is open," she whispered in his ear. He needed no explanation before standing up to lock the door. By the time he returned, Blessing was already undressing. She was unclad and took him in a sweet embrace. He didn't have time to salivate her nudity before she ate him up in a kiss. She took his hand and put on her b00bs while encouraging him to squeeze it. She helped him get naked and massaged his erect pen1s with her palm, to her surprise he was wearing a condom. She didn't know when he wore it but the faster the better she thought.
Lying on top of him, she adjusted herself and directed his pen1s into her VJJ. She gently let it in letting out a low moan. She began to spring up and down slowly on top of him. She sat comfortably on his long thing and swung back and forth like jangilova. Badoh laid down almost uninterested in what was going on safe for his erect pen1s which seem to need satisfaction. She sat up and rode him like a cowboy. Her hands were placed on her b00bs as she squeezed and bleeped him at the same time. She took his hand and placed it on her b00bs in hope to encourage him to participate more.
After tiring herself, she asked him to come on top of her and he succumbed. He lied on her and laid his cucumber in her Honeywell. He began to bang her slowly. She let out audible moaned as she savoured each lengthy thrust he made. After a few minutes she turned Oliver Twist and requested for more.
"Harder, harder," she said in what seemed like a direct order. He was humble and followed her instructions as he began to slam harder. He would pull out his pen1s and slam it in hard and she seemed to be enjoying it more and more with each thrust.
"Yes! Yes! Faster!" She said in intense breathing. "Faster" she said again as she pressed his bum bum to herself. Badoh was forced to increase the speed and velocity of the intercourse.
Badoh readjusted himself. He positioned himself like he would in a press up. His right hand was placed in between her neck and shoulder as he aimed to hold her still. He began to send multiple thrust into her VJJ. She moaned in pleasure for a while before the moaning turned mourning. She was no longer asking him for more, or harder or even faster, she just screamed.
Badoh bleeped her mindlessly. His mind was not in what he was doing. He was simply thinking about something else, something more important than what he was doing at that moment. He could not differentiate her shouting from moaning. He just hit her harder and faster. When he noticed her discomfort, he asked her if he should stop but she said, "stop it, I like it". A confused Badoh continued. It was time to think about himself and he did. He just pounded her like old yam leaving her sore everywhere under.
Finally he let out a long ejaculation. After the hard work, he collapsed on the bed breathing. Blessing lay in bed staring at him in awe. Obviously something was not right. She was wrong. He was not who he made her believe he was.
"Why did you lie to me?" She asked in a tone that suggested she wasn't too happy.

Chapter 50

The Big Secret

The days that followed were long days. They were as long as from where you are right now to Sokoto because he spent it reading. Reading is one of the most obvious things Badoh hated indulging in. He prefers being in a being classroom listening to a good lecturer who he can take notes from, not to mention the added advantage of being able to ask questions on areas that are not clear on the spot.
He had no choice, his last few weeks have been turbulent, to make matters worse he's obviously not done because now he has to deal with his elder brother. He could recall how the whole thing started and it was with Viv. As Badoh walked to school alone, the thought of Vivian made him smile for a brief moment before recalling some of the things the model shaped girl had said.

"It's okay. Just that I don't want you to have a fall out with anybody when I'm here. Because somehow your brother would get to hear of it," those were the words she had told him back then when the issue with Mezie first creeped out from the pit of hell to torment his young life. He could recall his question to her too in clear head.
"What is the issh with my brother, and you?" He had asked. Now it's become complicated because she had said his brother would know if he had issues. And considering the brewing story of a war one thing is crystal, Viv owed him explanation he thought. She certainly knows his brother better than himself, what an irony. The only problem now was reaching Viv, she seemed to be avoiding him to perfection.
No calls, no texts or even replying. His school was about 15 minutes walk from his Lodge, he seems to have succeeded in shutting out every one in his hostel. He's made Ken's betrayal everybody's offense, not even Efe could bridge his defense. After dialing Viv's number for the umpteenth time, he gave up. Slipped the phone into his pocket and frowned. Ken must have told Bros Sam about Viv and him. And Viv wasn't ready to talk. The best solution would be to remain in school even after exams.
Badoh was glad at his decision to remain in school after exams. It was a good decision to him because his brother did not know his Lodge, so all he had to do was warn Ken seriously against giving out his address to Sam. The other advantage was that his foodstuffs remained robust owing to the fact that for a while now nobody has come to borrow mangi or 2 cup of rice. Everyone mind your business he had cleared all the people that tried to come near or cluster.
When he finally got to the class, all eyes were on him. He had plaster on the top of his left eye and wore a Kitto sandal (black), a black jeans trouser, a black shirt and a red Papa's cap. Those he knew well he shook hands with but avoided going into a conversation with them. He sat at his favourite spot in the class minding his business. He brought out his white handkerchief and soaked the stagnant sweats that had formed around his face. Blessing soon joined him. She had become his permanent sit mate ever since they talked at the public tap.
She noticed he was not with his good mood and ended their conversation were it started - at pleasantries. They were both early as usual. Blessing had her own problems at that moment and wasn't ready to add Badoh's to her innumerous problems.
After having a good day joting and writing depending on the ability of the lecturer, the last class was Mrs Linda's News Gathering test. It wasn't a surprise test since she announced it 2 days earlier. Everyone seemed confident as they took out implicating materials from around their chairs. They seemed quite prepared but Linda - a young, fair, short lecturer in her mid 30s - had other plans.
After entering the hall containing about 200 students, dressed in her usual black suit, she wrote the name of the course on the white board. She then asked everyone to settle down and ensure that they have their writing materials only on their desks. He then wrote the test question which was 20 marks. As she wrote the class started murmuring. As soon as the question became clear, they continued to publicly express their discontent at the question.
Blessing was one of those was disappointed. Everyone one who seemed to have confidence initially looked troubled, especially the ladies who were placed at a disadvantage. The question was "As a reporter who covered the friendly match held at the Asaba Township stadium between 2 teams in NPL, write a detailed analysis of the event." The confusion on their faces made Mrs Linda smile. She had given them assignment during the course of the semester to be at the Departmental Football Competition to understand the formalities of football games, as always the ladies had better things to do than watch a football match. Only the guys who had the intention to play made themselves available at the field, and a handful of others who came to cheer their friends.
Badoh was among the many absentees, but being a football follower and average player, he was not shaken. He scrambled down his name and matriculation number (very important), then followed by the course and level. He commenced writing using Eyimba FC versus Warri Wolves as the teams in question. As he wrote Blessing stared at him. The issue with the question was that you can't copy someone else work unless you don't have a conscience.
Mrs Linda specifically warned against two students having same work or lookalikes. She promised to let hell rain if anyone fell victim of this her trap. She argued that it was better to not write anything and you will stand a chance of passing the exam or you copy and stand a chance to repeat this class. She was a good lecturer and students took her very seriously especially since her husband was a high ranking accountant in the Vice Chancellor's office. Everybody respected themselves and wrote what they could. Those who could not left their sheets blanks hoping for a miracle.
One of those who patiently waited for a pastor Chris in their lives was Blessing. She watched Badoh write and observed him. She didn't bother him, she only tried to write from him by changing the words he used but she couldn't, the two lines she had already written looked more like his words than here and she hissed and cancelled the work. Badoh noticed and opened his sheet properly but she declined telling him she could not copy what she doesn't understand. She pleaded with him to write for her instead, but he turned down the idea. His writing could be easily traced from Timbuktu to Asaba and he wouldn't stupidly implicate himself for a woman.
After ignoring her for about 10 minutes, he took his time to check his work before turning to her and suggested that he dictated to her while she wrote. At a time when she was watching her hope run out she quickly accepted his offer and started writing as he dictated.
Badoh kept her analysis short because of time, but he was able to input details of their possession, names of goal scorers, the stand out players and more. When they were through he asked her to go through her work properly while he left her to go submit. As soon as he handed over his script to Mrs Linda, exited the class taking his schoolbag with him. He had not been out of class for a minute when Blessing caught up with her. "Damn!!! What" Badoh almost asked her. But he allowed his calm the chance to overcome him.
"Thanks, I don't know what I would have done without you," she said as they walked towards the school gate.
"Nothing," he whispered inaudibly.
"What?" She asked him not too sure what she heard.
Badoh coughed a little before answering. "It's nothing, I said it's nothing." He repeated for clarification sake, he did not want to come across as rude. During their last conversation at the public tap near their respective hostels, she had pointed out that he was a snub. He didn't want to act snobbishly so he forcefully cheered himself up.
They spoke freely. Blessing opined that since they stayed in same area then they should walk to school together and back. Badoh only smiled at that. He had other thoughts on his mind, for example speaking to Ken about his brother, and trying to reach Viv again. The big secret must be totally unravelled he thought.
Talking to Blessing seemed to elevate his spirit as he was smiling every now and then, maybe because he was starting to observe and admire her. She was not tall but beautiful and light skinned. She had a formed backside and small dual orange shaped b00bs. To his surprise Blessing refused branching of to her house, she instead followed him to his hostel and up to his room door.
"I didn't plan this," Badoh thought to himself as he opened the room door. "I didn't plan this at all at all," he thought as he pushed the curtain aside.

Chapter 49

Gentle Lion

Calm, calculating, but ferocious.... Those were the words that usually came to mind when describing GentleLion, the gentle prodigal son who was an expert in using others to fight his battles.
Samson as he's popularly known is the elder brother of Badoh. He was a no good son until a few years ago when he decided on his own to get his shit together. Before then his family saw him as the kind of boy who had probably took a bet with God, swearing not to do anything good with his life. He became a cultist from an early age, he got himself expelled from Osadenis and St Patrick's college Asaba.
Even after he managed to finish secondary School at age 19, he revelled in nothing else safe for being the youngest Capone in the history of the Black people's confraternity. He was as intelligent as he was bloody, taking his group to the top of the food chain. Even when mutiny was rife in other groups as everyone hustled to be top dog, Samson would plant spies among the various cliques in his cult. The spies then made moves to overthrow him as Capone, those aggrieved members stupid enough to buy it were usually cut to size.
He used blackmail as a tool to control people, and as he grew older he reconciled the factions and controlled them with his kindness. Badoh's parents tried everything to get Sam to go to the university but nothing seemed to work. First he tried prelim at University of Benin city but came back short. After which his father secured admission for him at the Federal College Of Education (Technical) Asaba, through the help of Dr. Nwaokolo a relative and the school Provost but all that was flushed down the toilet as he quit FECOTECH for reasons best known to him alone. His mum resulted to prayers hoping that he would change, and one day he actually did change.
He called his mum and told her of his intentions to further, he bought Jamb form that year, wrote it, passed and got admitted into University of Calabar. In a few blinks Sam was a graduate of political science and currently serving in Abuja. He however remains aware of the many sins he committed in his moment of weakness or strength as you deem to see it and has always protected himself and his family the best way he could.
Having stepped on many toes, Samson ensures that he assigns someone to each members of his family. They usually monitored and reported back to him, or if necessary step in in cases of emergency. That was the role he made Ken play. He had met Ken during one of his journey to Ogwashi-Uku prison where he was held prior to the 2003 election. He spent months in prison but his lawyer Barr. Femi Okafor succeeded in getting his release after much struggle.
He had tried calling Badoh twice but he refused picking his calls. He knows that he knows. But he did not owe him any explanation.
Badoh lay in his bed thinking, he wondered why his brother would monitor him. "Why wouldn't he let him live his life without interference?" His brother had wanted him to go to UniCal like himself but he turned that down flatly, the thought of being in the same environment as his brother irked him. He was a quiet boy for sure but Samson was different - he was cold. Samson was the one person in their family who still think it's okay to beat him, and when he does he did it like they were age mates. As he laid thinking, a loud knock interrupted his thought.
"Who's that?" He querried still lying down, he had no intention of opening the door for anybody, be it Efe, Ken, the carpenter and especially his nosy neighbours.
"It's Mike," the soft voice said.
Badoh thought for a while before recognizing the voice. He wondered how he got to know his room number. He successfully dragged himself out of the bed though with how long it took him you would mistake it for a Herculean task. He opened the door after confirming he was alone and greeted him.
"Bros Mike, welcome. Hope no probs?" He managed to inquire.
"No wahala my guy! I say make I shoot you your bar make I for no loss. You code!" Mike said trying to squeeze some cash into his hand, but Badoh resisted. He wanted to know what the money was for.
Mike explained that it was the money he used to buy beer the day he had issues with his confraternity. He told him that he had been broke for a while now else he would have returned the cash earlier.
"No na, you na my Bros na. I no fit collect am. Na my gbege and e don settle," Badoh explained.
"How? If you no take this box you dey create fresh gbege for me, and you know say I no get blood wey go rush like public tap, I no fit for wahala." Mike said with watery eyes.
"Bros, ah, I no fit. If I take this owoh, e go be like I de obtain from you, e be as e get nau!" Badoh cried hoping to convince him to no avail.
"Manchi, I no get morale leave here if you no take this money. Just collect am guy. Abeg!" Mike said as he successfully squeezed it into his hand. He thanked Badoh and left.
Badoh had to take the money because he could not do other wise. He had monitored Mike's face and was sure that the soft spoken Bros was scared to the bone marrow. Sweat dripped from every pore in his face while the veins in his forehead were more visible than before. Badoh could see his brother written all over it. When he went back inside, he threw himself in the bed and counted the cash, it was N4,000. He sighed and threw it under his pillow. Just then his phone began to ring again and it was Samson.
"Bros!" Badoh said after picking up reluctantly.
"How matterz?" Samson asked.
"Bros why you dey monitor me, abi you be monitoring spirit?" Badoh asked nonchalantly a raised voice.
His question shocked Samson more than an electric wire does when in contact with a wet skin. But he kept his calm.
"I see say you don chop winch. Count your Bleep ups by your self. First you no gree pick my call, now you pick come dey yearn Okpata, not to mention say of all the girls wey dey this world na Vivian naim you go dey cross. If na someone else na 50 machete drills he go chop. (Silence) But nevertheless, Bundoh, you go collect..." Gentlelion said and the phone went dead.
As soon as the call ended, Badoh held the phone to his ear hoping to hear something else, something kinder, but all he heard was his heartbeat, and an echo of GentleLion's last words - You go collect.

Uniquejames:
the story be looking like a season movie. one minute its saying a story then the next minute it's telling us another story.

truth be told I am beginning to lose interest in this project...

If this had come from someone else I would have kicked him in the butt and say good luck.

But it coming from one of my earliest reader, follower and commenter, I will try my best to explain...

No offense but this is indeed a season movie (so to say), this is because it's the story of someone's life allegedly. Now the reason behind telling other person's story in Badoh's story is to help create a better understanding of why Ken did what he did. Before now many called Ken a snitch and more but who would do differently in his situation?

Left for me I would prefer to abbreviate the book like I did in the beginning to end this project quicker (considering it's my worst work yet) and move on. But I can't. Some stories are realer than meet the eye and I indulge you to be patient.
If the story does not go the direction you expect simply abandon it for a month or more and return, you will appreciate it more on return. It's the trick I use on some stories I follow on Nairaland especially when they begin to bore me.

Please don't take this the wrong way, just that I became uninspired (after reading your comment) when I tried writing this morning.
Nonetheless, I understand. But for future sake make your criticism more constructive to avoid demoralizing the writer. Thanks boss.
