Recently got the EPever for my 24v system and the performance so far has been just there.

Will keep observing sha, but dunno, it seems like my YOHAKO so called "mppt" is pulling more amps for my 48v system than this epever everyone has been raving on about.

One time it pulled the pv voltage all the way down to like 28v while lowering amps to the battery as compared to pv amps, a real shocker I must say.

So far on my new 600watt/24v solar system installed this week, I've only seen a peak of around 300 watts using the EPever. Dunno if it's cause of the panel efficiency, controller or the season we are in (though the sun was bright on initial tests). All wires check out, 6mm solar cables used. Inclination and cardinal positioning were limited by the roof, so that might also be a factor.

Anywho, I am at least happy sha with the little output from this 600 watt setup thus far.

I greet all the boss and solar gurus in the house. Please I am planning a setup for my office. At the moment, I have 2 CPUs that power about 10 monitors.

One CPU powers 5 monitors. I want to assume that each monitor is within the range of 70 watts (x 10 monitors will be 700 watts). Also the 2 CPUs are 80 watts in each, making 160 watts.

This is just an estimate though, but I would say the total wattage of the computers are 700 watts for monitors and 160 watts for CPU making 860 watts.

Please I'd like to know the number of batteries that can match this requirement (Assuming there are 5 light bulbs of 20 watts each making an additional 100 watts)

Total estimated watts: 960

Please I need recommendations from gurus in the house.

that's like 8 200ah batteries that you need there on a 48v system.

Does that inverter support lithium batteries?

Weeeeelllll..... I think every battery will do fairly well on the initial capacity test. But will it retain that performance 6 months ..... 1 year down the road? - properly used a battery should give you at least two years before it conks off.

How deeply did you cycle your old batteries that died within a year? Did the inverter used to beep off from low battery? What kind of inverter is it? Was the inverter capable of delivering a proper voltage charge to the batteries? Did the batteries get a proper full charge on a regular basis? How many batteries did you use? What kind and wattage of appliances did you load on the batteries?

The above are some of the questions you need to provide answers to before we can make informed comments about battery longevity or performance.

All batteries whether premium or budget will die quickly if abused - a good battery properly used should give reliable performance 2 years and upwards.

I already talked with you about my inverter issues using my "nomoretrolling" account. Basically, one inverter only charges to 13.8v while the other PRAG 2.5kva-24v goes through bulk and absorb. I already purchased another 12v Prag that charges to an absorb of 14.1v.

The batteries were rarely abused and only died once (inverter beeps and all) while they were still in good condition. Of course, they die all the time now that they are bad.

Wish me luck, I will try the first unilite 200ah battery tomorrow and see how far. Will report back, hopefully it won't be a dud.

Hit or miss. The quality of items varies per import batch and per seller even and also a lot of fakes/inferior quality rebadged/rebranded as the real deal with everybody claiming his own product is the genuine article.

If you must, you will be better off going through a trusted insider who can take you by the hand and guide you right - of course all this will add to your cost.

If I were you, I would bite the bullet and go straight to source to get a reputable battery brand - you will be surprised you could save 5k to 20k per battery if you eliminate the middle man

Thanks Niyi, I found some sellers on Jiji and spoke to a female seller who sounded trustworthy.

I'm based in V.I and I can't make it all the way there, cause of my schedule.

I told the woman to bring one battery first, that way I can run a capacity test on it with a 100watt fridge using a 12v inverter. If I get anywhere close to 200ah then I will buy more from her.

Please is this a good strategy to take? The battery in question is called "UNILITE", it's 200ah for 73K.

My last batteries where GLT - 80k and Mercury 98k, both brands died in a year, so I don't see the point in spending close to 100k or over 100k per battery. If i want to do that, then it'll have to be for Trojans straight from the U.S.A or something like that.

She is coming today, bros abeg, what do you think of the capacity testing That should be a good indicator of battery strength and longevity if I get at least 10+ hours running the fridge right Then I can buy 3 more from her.

Oh I see where the misconception is coming from. PV amps before cc is different from pv amps after cc. Usually the pv might produce something like 5amps at 30v.. once it gets to the cc, an mppt controller would then pull down the voltage and up the amps to like 10amp 14v (for a 12v system).

What my log is displaying is the amp after cc and the pv voltage. Some controllers have ability to display pv amp before cc and after cc.

in essence the right calculation for my watt is to multiply battery volt with amps after cc. This would give u the closest to the pv power. remember that pv watt before cc and pv watt after cc should be the about the same, only the volts and amps gets rearranged.

Thanks for breaking that down for me, now I get it, the current there has already been up-converted by the mppt cc.

Really awesome reporting yo!!

Oh.. In that case it's depends on the state of charge of the battery. The amount of PV power available for charging depends on load and battery state of charge. If my battery is in bulk on a good day my PV would be on over drive to fill it up.. On such an occasion you would see PV voltage drop to about 48v that is when mppt Is doing its thing. However once the battery gets filed to absorption then the current starts to be reduced and voltage increased at this stage the cc will move to the higher end of the PV IV curve this is when you would see the PV volt at 50 and above.. What is means is that the pv is not being driven to their full potentials.

yeah, i get all that, it's just the reporting that's still confusing.

Look at the screen shot below

2.80amps * 56.83v should give you 159watts
.
yet you are reporting 77watts, which is about 2.80amps * battery voltage about 25.5v.

I don't know when last you checked. But it does. It shows individual array's watt, amp and volts and also shows combine watts, and watts among other things.

Been following it closely bro, I was up at like 5a.m the other day and was watching your charge controller wake up. Once again, very cool.

What I mean, is that, the watts being reported, does not correspond to the amps and volts reported.

for instance, say you were getting like 10amps at 55v, that should be 550watts reported, but it reports 250 watts instead, which seems like it's multiplying the amps by the battery voltage, instead of converting the amps to a higher value as an mppt should do.

do you understand what i mean?

I have completed the remote logging and monitoring protect for my solar offgrid setup. I finally took delivery of serial to usb cable which allowed me DIY the victron VE Direct to USB and subsequently add the 2 solar charge controller and victron battery monitor to the logging system on the Rpi. The final dashboard is finished and quite comprehensive. I designed it to display in real time the power generation from the 2 seperate solar array, their energy yield and the combined output.

It also shows battery state of charge (in percentage, and depth of discharge in amp..) There is a visual indicator which shows the battery level and a figure that shows how much amps hours is in the battery at a particular time. The battery monitor also displays charge and discharge rate.

Lastly there are graphs that show solar generation over a time period (by the minute, hour, day, weeks and months) another graph shows the voltage and charge curve of the battery. I tried to make the dashboard visually pleasing and easy on the eye. I might have failed at that though because my day UI has never been my strong point.

I was watching your system yesterday online, it's so so cool. Have a question though, why is your power generation not gelling with the raw amps and volts your pv arrays are putting out? I thought you were using an MPPT controller?
