Msg me on whatsapp sir +2348181926479

Below 100k doesn't tell me the 'actual' mileage, which I asked for. I am interested in the car but you have to be open about it here before I can contact you on WhatsApp.

I also need pictures of the car that would show me the dashboard with the engine running, mileage and the name plate showing the VIN number and the actual year of manufacturing. The more the information the better.

Yes you can safely use the MorningStar! With a 3 panels in series string VmP 36volts × 3panels = 108volts. MorningStar will only start derating after 115VmP.

In practice you will likely not even see the rated VmP except on a very cool/cold day or in the morning - there is an inverse relationship between panel VmP and temperature so your location in tropical Nigeria is ideal to keep you under 110VmP.

Without speaking too much English MorningStar is perfect for this your config but the problem is that it is capped at 60A so you need two units to get max amps out of your array.

In naira terms one MorningStar 60A landed price is ~250k while the Midnite Classic 80A may be ~280k. By paying 30k extra from the start you could potentially squeeze out an extra 15 to 20amps out of your array with Midnite but if you go with Morningstar you will need to purchase another CC - a smaller sized 30A to 45A MorningStar is 160k to 200k - in the long run splitting duty across two CCs will serve you best e.g 3kw on the 60A MorningStar and 1.5kw on another 30AMorningstar but there is a clear price and short run advantage with one 80A Midnite Classic - how long the Midnite fan will last before it gives way under stress and how long the whole Midnite CC itself will last at max duty and max thermal duress I will leave as an open question for the Midnite fans to answer.

PS: People on this thread predominantly favor the Midnite I think so get ready for the deluge of responses grin

I would go with the Morningstar too. Apart from the already stated reasons, in the event that you want to expand your array, the second CC will make that possible without the need for a second CC as would be the case if Midnite were used. Since the Midnite is already maxed out, you will need to get another controller for future expansion.

Try everything thus far advised on the forum. All are safe and easy to do. The three times I've had such issues were each time
(1) a 48V MustPower inverter. Your Prag has inner workings very similar and I suspect (know) is 48V
(2) a cross-talk between earth and live or earth and neutral lines in the home wiring

Three out of three times.

Thanks Saipro. I will have the home wiring investigated too.

This could be due to dust accumulation in the Inverter. You may open it up and blow/vacuum clean the dust away. Kindly do this before considering other suggested remedies by the professionals here.

Removing dust from inverter is a recommended periodic maintenance task to be regularly carried-out on Inverters.

Thank you for the suggestion, but that was done immediately the abnormal operation was observed. However, the cleaning/vacuuming did not make any difference, it had continued to operate abnormally.

I have been using the BLS 12/24v desulfator since 2011 - the advertised method of operation is some sort of radio frequency signal sent into the batteries to break up sulfur crystals - I doubt if it is the cause of the issues with your inverter - the kind of desulfator myself and Saipro were talking about were the electronic pulsers/desulfators which send out very brief high voltage jolts into the battery to break up the sulfur crystals.

The issue with your inverter seems more like something on the load side or an issue with the inverter board or some sensor on the board.

Have you considered that you might actually have an intermittent shorted wire or similar issue in your house making the inverter sense high load sometimes? One easy way to isolate this issue is to install a 10amp AC breaker e.g ABB or other good brand on the AC live/positive side of the inverter output - I am assuming here that your actual loads never exceed 2.4kw or 10amps at 240volts AC - if that breaker ever trips where your real load based on equipment you are running is under 2.4kw and allowing for surge current, then you definitely have a shorted wire issue or there is some load coming on somewhere in the house that you are not aware of e.g iron or microwave or heater inadvertently plugged to one of the power sockets the inverter is powering.

In any case, with the breaker attached, you have effectively set a load limit on your inverter - a 3 to 4kw load should trip a 10amps breaker, a bridged wire/short circuit scenario will definitely trip the breaker - with this you can easily eliminate/confirm the inverter as the root cause of the issue.

Many thanks. I will carry out the investigation and if necessary install the breaker.

Once again, many thanks.

Saipro:

All points (including the desulphator ruining the charging circuitry) are confirmed from personal testing (I have 4 of those units in operation).

For the smaller units (3kW and below), if you put the fan on an always-on mode, idle consumption increases significantly.

I am having similar experience with 7.5KVA Prag. It was running normally and the both the DC and AC fans were running intermittently as needed according to the specified temperature. However, for a while now the fans have been running simultaneously at the highest speeds. At such times, the consumption would increase dramatically up to 3 or 4KW when actual load is less than 1KW, without there being any additional loads. The load can only be eliminated when the inverter is switched off and back on. Once the fans start running, the charging from the PV also drops, I guess because of the gigantic self-consumption of the inverter!

I have a 48V Desulfator (Battery Life Saver) connected to the battery bank. However, my inverter does not charge my battery bank at all, as the charging function is actually turned off since I am completely off grid and does not even charge with generator, but only PV arrays.

Could the Desulfator be the problem, because come to think of it, I noticed this mode of operation only after installing the desulfator.

Anyone with ideas what can be wrong and the possible solution would be appreciated.

for 48 V you can have a look at Victron Quattro 5kw - 1 million or 8 KW/10 KW ( almost space price) - 1.8 million ,
SMA Sunny island - 8H - 1.6 million

Something cheaper is ipower /gennex 5 KVA ( 4 KW) x 2 = 8 KW /10 KVA approximately 6000 K including parallel kit - Can be expanded upto 24 KW single phase

I have no personal experince wityh Magnum but i think one unit is max 4.4 KW

All the inverters have chargers built in . Inverters without charger cost approximately 100 K less but it is better to buy with charger ( easier to resell or charge in emergency)

cheap alternative is china made inverters but for a such a serious system I would advise against it

Many thanks Anil.

I will take a look at the options proposed.

I think you are right about the Chinese inverters. I currently have a 6KW Prag, which seems to have developed a problem. The fans (both DC and AC) would randomly start running at top speed and can do that for a whole day if you do not switch off the inverter to reset. My problem is that once it starts running at that speed, the LED display would indicate that the system is loaded up to 60%, meanwhile the actual load may just be less than 15%. In terms of amperage and wattage, it would indicate that the load is about 12A and over 3kw when the actual load is about 1-2A or 400-600W. However, once you switch it off and back on, the load would mysteriously disappear and consumption becomes normal as indicated above. So I am suspecting that the two fans running simultaneously without stop increases the self-consumption of the inverter incredibly higher than normal.

I have contacted Prag and they were not helpful and their only advice was that I change module in the unit, responsible for load and consumption control, at the rate of N120k, for a unit that is just about two years old. So rather than change that module every two years, I would rather spend the funds on getting higher quality, more effective and efficient low self-consuming inverter that would serve me better.

Once again, many thanks for the recommendations.

Cheers

Suppliers/Dealers/Engineers etc in the house.

I am in need of a Pure Sine Wave Inverter (inverter only). I do not need the charger as I live completely off-grid and charge my batteries with my PV arrays only. I have a backup generator, but I do not charge the batteries with it. It is purely for backup. The capacity of the Pure Sine Wave Inverter only should be between 6KW and 8KW, and able to power submersible pumps, refrigerators, air conditioners, pressing irons, washing machines, dryers and other household appliances and office equipment. It should also be able to power small power tools such as drilling and cutting machines

The inverter should be a low self-consumption inverter.

Cheers

Further information

The system is 48V.
The battery bank is made up of two (2) strings of 370AH each connected in parallel to give 740AH.
The PV Array is a total of 5.3KW in two strings connected to two charge controllers.

The loads are merely a description of what would be powered by the inverter, rather than what would be powered simultaneously.

Cheers
